Noninfectious facial papular granulomas can be the presentation of several conditions, including granulomatous periorificial dermatitis, granulomatous rosacea, lupus miliaris disseminatus faciei, and papular sarcoidosis. Although these entities are treated distinctly from one another, they share several clinical and histological characteristics. We present 2 cases of facial papular granuloma: one patient presented with granulomatous rosacea, and the other had a presentation consistent with sarcoidosis but also demonstrated features of granulomatous periorificial dermatitis and had a protracted course of treatment. Such cases exemplify heterogeneity in the evaluation and management of this cutaneous lesion and highlight the necessity of appreciating its various potential causes.

Rosacea fulminans (RF) is a rare facial dermatosis that typically affects women with a fulminating course that presents with superficial and deep-seated papules, pustules, and nodules, as well as an intense reddish or cyanotic erythema localized to the face. Although the etiology of RF remains unknown, immunologic, hormonal, and vascular factors have been implicated. We describe a case of a 32-year-old pregnant woman presenting with RF. Presentation in a pregnant patient is not commonly reported and requires special consideration to manage.

Rosacea is a chronic progressive disease that causes inflammation on the skin and the ocular surface. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Demodex mites on clinical findings associated with rosacea. Sixty patients who were newly diagnosed with rosacea in the dermatology outpatient clinic underwent superficial skin biopsy to determine the density of Demodex species. The patients were evaluated as Demodex positive (n=30) or Demodex negative (n=30) based on the species density. The 60 patients were examined in the ophthalmology outpatient clinic; a total of 120 eyes underwent tear breakup time (TBUT) and Schirmer tests and were examined for meibomitis and blepharitis findings. The demographic characteristics and ocular findings of both groups were recorded and statistically compared. We found that Demodex mite-related inflammation in rosacea does not significantly affect clinical ocular surface findings and that Demodex positivity is significantly associated with papulopustular rosacea (PPR)(P=.003).

Phymatous rosacea is a rare and severe form of rosacea that manifests as disfiguring soft-tissue hypertrophy and sebaceous gland hyperplasia and fibrosis. Most cases are surgically treated; surgical modalities vary, however, ranging from cryosurgery to conventional excision, and consensus guidelines for surgical management do not exist. The Versajet II Hydrosurgery System (Smith-Nephew) is a high-pressure, pulsatile lavage system. We present the case of a 75-year-old man with severe phymatous rosacea of the nose, cheeks, and chin who was successfully treated with the Versajet II Hydrosurgery System, yielding excellent contouring.

Rosacea is an inflammatory skin condition that, despite its prevalence, remains imperfectly understood. Without "gold standard" laboratory markers, the diagnosis depends greatly on clinical judgment and the nomenclature used. Throughout the years, the classification schemas for rosacea have changed as clinicians and researchers study the condition. Herein, we highlight the fundamental differences between the proposed classification systems for rosacea, emphasize the areas for improvement, and discuss the implications on clinical decision-making and patient care.

Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory cutaneous disorder that may be underreported and underrecognized in skin of color (SOC) patients. There are several skin disorders that can present with the classic features of rosacea, such as erythema, papules, and pustules, which can confound the diagnosis. To promote accurate and timely diagnosis of rosacea, we review possible rosacea mimickers in SOC patients.

Rosacea patients often are burdened with embarrassment, social anxiety, and psychiatric comorbidities. The Patient Health Questionnaire 9 (PHQ-9) is a validated and reliable self-administered tool for diagnosis of depression and designation of depression severity. This study aimed to examine the relationship between rosacea severity scores and level of depression using a validated rosacea self-assessment tool and the PHQ-9, respectively. Our results indicated that there is a direct relationship between rosacea severity and level of depression, and the PHQ-9 could prove useful in screening for depression in rosacea patients given the high incidence of psychiatric comorbidities in this patient population.

Facial concerns in skin of color (SOC) patients vary and can be a source of emotional and psychological distress. This article discusses 4 common facial concerns in SOC patients: acne, rosacea, facial hyperpigmentation, and cosmetic enhancement. Treatment recommendations are provided as well as management pearls.

Periorificial dermatitis (POD) has been documented in the pediatric population in patients as young as 3 months, with a slight predominance in girls compared to boys. Many patients have a personal or family history of atopic disorders. Periorificial dermatitis typically presents with erythematous to flesh-colored papules and rarely pustules near the eyes, nose, and mouth. Although the etiology is unknown, many patients have had recent exposure to a topical or less commonly an inhaled or systemic corticosteroid. Although steroids may initially control the skin lesions, disease often rebounds after discontinuing therapy. Diagnosis of POD is clinical. Laboratory tests are not helpful in making the diagnosis, and the histology of POD resembles rosacea. It is important to rule out other acneform diagnoses based on the age of the patient, clinical history, and presentation of the lesions. Topical metronidazole has been successful in the pediatric population. For pediatric patients with extrafacial skin lesions or more severe disease, oral antibiotics such as tetracycline, doxycycline, minocycline, azithromycin, and erythromycin can be used, depending on the age of the patient.

Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin disease of the face. The objective of the studies described here was to evaluate the efficacy of clindamycin in the treatment of rosacea. Two multicenter, randomized, vehicle-controlled, phase 2 studies were conducted in participants with moderate to severe rosacea. Study A was a 12-week dose-comparison, 5-arm, parallel group comparison of clindamycin cream 1% or vehicle once or twice daily and clindamycin cream 0.3% once daily. Study B was a 2-arm comparison of twice daily clindamycin gel 1% versus vehicle gel. A total of 629 participants (study A, N=416; study B, N=213) were randomized. The results of these studies indicated that clindamycin cream 0.3% and 1% and clindamycin gel 1% were no more effective than the vehicle in the treatment of moderate to severe rosacea, suggesting clindamycin has no intrinsic anti-inflammatory activity in rosacea.

Growing incentives to control health care costs may cause accountable care organizations (ACOs) to reconsider how skin disease is best managed. Limited data have suggested that disease management by a primary care physician (PCP) may be less costly than seeing a specialist, though it is not clear if the same is true for the management of skin disease. This study assessed the cost of seeing a dermatologist versus a PCP for diagnosis of psoriasis and rosacea.

Patient-reported treatment outcomes are important for evaluating the impact of drug therapies on patient experience. A randomized, double-blind, vehicle-controlled, parallel-group, multicenter, phase 3 study was conducted in 961 participants to assess patient perception of efficacy, utility, and effect on quality of life (QOL) of an azelaic acid (AzA) 15% foam formulation for the treatment of papulopustular rosacea (PPR). Secondary end points included patient-reported global assessment of treatment response, global assessment of tolerability, and opinion on cosmetic acceptability and practicability of product use. Quality of life assessments included the Dermatology Quality of Life Index (DLQI) and Rosacea Quality of Life Index (RosaQOL). Self-reported global assessment of treatment response favored AzA foam over vehicle foam (P.001), with 57.2% of the AzA foam group reporting excellent or good improvement versus 44.7% in the vehicle foam group. Tolerability was rated excellent or good in 67.8% of the AzA foam group versus 78.2% of the vehicle foam group. Mean overall DLQI scores at end of treatment (EoT) were improved (P=.018) in favor of the AzA foam group compared with the vehicle foam group. Both treatment groups showed improvements in RosaQOL. Treatment with AzA foam was associated with improved QOL and meaningful reductions in the patient-perceived burden of PPR, which correlates with earlier reported primary end points of this study and supports the inclusion of patient perspectives in studies evaluating the effects of topical dermatologic treatments.

Papulopustular rosacea (PPR) is characterized by centrofacial papules and pustules commonly associated with erythema. To compare investigator-reported efficacy outcomes for azelaic acid (AzA) foam 15% versus vehicle foam in PPR, a randomized, vehicle-controlled, double-blind phase 3 clinical trial was conducted at 48 US sites. Participants received AzA foam or vehicle foam for 12 weeks. Secondary efficacy outcomes included change in inflammatory lesion count (ILC), therapeutic response rate according to investigator global assessment (IGA), and change in erythema rating. This study was comprised of 961 participants with PPR. The results support the therapeutic superiority of AzA foam over vehicle foam.

Enlarged facial pores remain a common dermatologic and cosmetic concern from acne and rosacea, among other conditions, that is difficult to treat due to the multifactorial nature of their pathogenesis and negative impact on patients' quality of life. Enlarged facial pores are primarily treated through addressing associative factors, such as increased sebum production and cutaneous aging. We review the current treatment modalities for enlarged or dense facial pores, including topical retinoids, chemical peels, oral antiandrogens, and lasers and devices, with a focus on newer therapies.

Because rosacea is uncommon in the pediatric population, care must be taken to exclude other papulopustular disorders. Children can present with vascular, papulopustular, and/or ocular findings. Importantly, ocular symptoms can appear before the cutaneous symptoms of rosacea, leading to misdiagnosis. Rosacea is a clinical diagnosis, but histopathologic examination typically reveals dilated vessels, perivascular lymphohistiocytic infiltrates in the upper dermis, elastosis, and disorganization of the upper dermal connective tissue. Treatment involves avoiding known triggers and utilizing topical and/or systemic therapies. Although treatment can control flares, pediatric rosacea often persists into adulthood.

Parts 1 and 2 of this 3-part series provided an overview of the epidemiology, visible patterns, and important considerations for clinical and laboratory evaluation of acne vulgaris (AV) in adult women and reviewed the role of proper skin care and topical therapies in this patient population. In Part 3, oral therapies including combination oral contraceptives, spironolactone, antibiotics, and isotretinoin are discussed along with important considerations that clinicians should keep in mind when selecting oral agents for management of AV in adult women.

Rosacea is a commonly encountered chronic inflammatory skin disease with a predilection for highly visible areas of the skin such as the face. The cosmetic symptoms of rosacea can be substantial and may greatly reduce a patient's quality of life. Although there is no definitive cure for rosacea, effective treatment of symptoms can mitigate the deleterious effects of this condition and improve quality of life. In this article, we review both existing and emerging cosmetic treatments for rosacea, including topical medications, systemic pharmacologic therapies, light-based modalities, and procedural interventions, and assess their ability to improve the cosmetic symptoms of rosacea.

Rosacea is a chronic relapsing skin disorder primarily affecting the face. Although its etiology is not well defined, rosacea is associated with immune dysregulation and inflammation potentiated by external factors. These manifestations lead to skin sensitivity and impaired quality of life. Azelaic acid (AzA) is approved for the treatment of rosacea in a 15% gel formulation. This phase 3 study evaluated the efficacy and safety of AzA in a 15% foam formulation for the treatment of papulopustular rosacea (PPR). Coprimary efficacy end points were treatment success according to investigator global assessment (IGA) and the nominal change in inflammatory lesion count (ILC) from baseline to the end of treatment (EoT). Adverse events (AEs) were evaluated as a measure of safety. The IGA success rate at EoT was significantly greater in the AzA foam group versus vehicle (P.001; Cochran-Mantel-Haenszel test). Likewise, nominal ILC change at EoT in the AzA foam group showed a significantly greater decrease versus vehicle (P.001; F test). Drug-related AEs were mainly mild to moderate, cutaneous, and local. Overall, the study results support the efficacy and safety of twice-daily AzA foam 15% in patients with PPR.

The motivation for rosacea patients to seek and adhere to treatment is not well characterized. A patient journey is a map of the steps a patient takes as he/she progresses through different segments of the disease from diagnosis to management, including all the influences that can push him/her toward or away from certain decisions. We sought to examine each step of the rosacea patient journey to better understand key patient care boundaries faced by rosacea patients. A PubMed search of articles indexed for MEDLINE as well as a search of the National Rosacea Society Web site (http://www.rosacea.org) were conducted to identify articles and materials that quantitatively or qualitatively described rosacea patient experiences. Current literature pertaining to the rosacea patient journey was summarized. The rosacea patient journey is discussed. It is a useful tool to gain insight on patient experiences. Better understanding of the patient perspective by dermatologists can lead to better patient adherence to treatment and thus improved quality of life and satisfaction.

Although rosacea is one of the most common conditions treated by dermatologists, it also is one of the most misunderstood. It is a chronic disorder affecting the central parts of the face and is characterized by frequent flushing; persistent erythema (ie, lasting for at least 3 months); telangiectasia; and interspersed episodes of inflammation with swelling, papules, and pustules. Understanding the clinical variants and disease course of rosacea is important to differentiate this entity from other conditions that can mimic rosacea. Herein we present several mimickers of rosacea that physicians should consider when diagnosing this condition.

Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory disease that predominantly affects facial skin in light-skinned individuals and can be divided into 4 subtypes. Patients can display signs of more than 1 subtype. Diffuse facial erythema is a common finding in rosacea patients and can lead to persistent erythema. Although there is no cure for rosacea, reduction of signs and symptoms can be achieved via various treatment modalities. This article reviews devices and topical agents currently available for the management of rosacea.

The last article in this 5-part series provides a final overview of consensus recommendations from the American AcneRosacea Society (AARS) on the management of the common presentations of cutaneous rosacea. Optimal management of rosacea requires careful assessment of the patient's clinical features with integration of therapies that adequately treat the presenting signs and symptoms. The treatment consensus recommendations from the AARS are based on 2 major common clinical presentations of rosacea: (1) centrofacial erythema with papulopustular lesions, and (2) centrofacial erythema without papulopustular lesions. The recommendations provided here serve to guide clinicians in their clinical practice.

The fourth article in this 5-part series reviews physical modalities and devices used to treat cutaneous rosacea based on consensus recommendations from the American AcneRosacea Society (AARS) on the management of the common presentations of cutaneous rosacea. The major therapeutic uses of physical modalities and devices, especially laser and light-based systems, are for treatment of telangiectases and persistent facial erythema (background erythema). Phymas, especially rhinophyma, also are treated with physical modalities such as ablative lasers or surgical devices (eg, electrosurgical loop). Appropriately selected and properly used lasers and intense pulsed light (IPL) devices can successfully address specific clinical manifestations of rosacea that exhibit limited or no response to available medical therapies, such as telangiectases and background centrofacial erythema. Rosacea-associated symptoms also may improve. In most cases, treatment will need to be repeated intermittently to sustain improvement.

The third article in this 5-part series reviews systemic therapies used to treat cutaneous rosacea based on consensus recommendations from the American AcneRosacea Society (AARS) on the management of the common presentations of cutaneous rosacea. The consensus recommendations are based on current understanding of research that describes pathophysiologic mechanisms that appear to be operative in rosacea, correlation of these underlying pathophysiologic mechanisms with specific clinical manifestations of rosacea, and outcomes from clinical trials that evaluate therapies for rosacea both as monotherapy and in combination with other agents. Systemic agents used for treatment of rosacea have been administered as oral formulations (ie, tablets, capsules). The only oral agent for rosacea approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is a modified-release doxycycline 40-mg capsule. Other non-FDA-approved oral agents also are discussed including other tetracyclines, macrolides, metronidazole, and isotretinoin.

Rosacea is a common chronic inflammatory skin disease that primarily affects facial skin. Its etiology is unknown, and currently there is no cure. Rosacea can be associated with severe symptoms, including transient erythema (flushing), nontransient erythema, papules, pustules, and telangiectases, leading to substantial discomfort and an unattractive appearance. This randomized, double-blind, vehicle-controlled, multicenter, parallel-group study conducted over 12 weeks with a 4-week follow-up period evaluated the efficacy and safety of a new formulation of azelaic acid (AzA) foam in a 15% concentration compared to vehicle alone in patients with papulopustular rosacea (PPR). Primary efficacy variables assessed were investigator global assessment (IGA) dichotomized into success and failure, and nominal change in inflammatory lesion count from baseline to end of treatment. Results indicated that the new foam formulation of AzA is effective and well-tolerated in a population of patients with PPR. Although no single formulation is appropriate for all patients, the development of a new foam formulation in addition to other available vehicles provides patients with options and allows health care providers to match the needs as well as preferences of individual patients and skin types with appropriate delivery modalities.

A variety of topical therapies have been utilized in the treatment of rosacea. In part 2 of this 5-part series, topical agents that have been utilized in the treatment of the common clinical presentations of rosacea, including those that have been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as well as alternative agents, are reviewed. It is important to note that adjunctive skin care and photoprotection are integral components of rosacea treatment that may assist in optimizing therapeutic outcomes.

Rosacea is a common clinical diagnosis that encompasses a variety of presentations, predominantly involving the centrofacial skin. Reported to present most commonly in adults of Northern European heritage with fair skin, rosacea can affect males and females of all ethnicities and skin types. Pathophysiologic mechanisms that appear to correlate with the manifestation of rosacea have been the focus of multiple research studies, with outcomes providing a better understanding of why some individuals are affected and how their visible signs and symptoms develop. A better appreciation of the pathophysiologic mechanisms and inflammatory pathways of rosacea has allowed therapeutic strategies to be optimally incorporated. Part 1 of this 5-part series discusses the rosacea disease state with an emphasis on clinical correlation, reviews adjunctive skin care for cutaneous rosacea, and provides management caveats.

We review rosacea fulminans, a rare condition that may cause facial scarring and disfigurement. All physicians and health care professionals must be aware of this form of rosacea to treat or refer the patient. Early treatment of rosacea fulminans is essential to avoid scarring.

This article discusses rosacea, a common facial dermatosis of uncertain etiology and recent investigations that have begun to shed considerable light on the sequence of events leading to clinical manifestations of rosacea. The article content is based on a dedicated meeting about rosacea sanctioned by the American AcneRosacea Society (AARS) and represents the consensus of the authors and AARS Board of Directors.

Azelaic acid (AzA) gel 15% is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of papulopustular rosacea (PPR). Its efficacy and safety as monotherapy have been demonstrated. Release of active drug from the gel formulation is superior to the cream. The combination of AzA gel 15% with oral doxycycline appears to expedite and augment response, especially in cases of PPR of greater severity, and AzA gel 15% maintains control of PPR over 6 months as compared to vehicle. Adjunctive skin care is recommended to augment the therapeutic outcome of PPR and reduce the potential for irritation that can occur with topical therapy.

The purpose of this study was to assess the cosmetic appearance of commonly marketed facial cosmetics when used after the application of metronidazole gel 1%. An observational. open-label, single-site study was conducted with women (N=30) aged 20 to 75 years and diagnosed with moderate papulopustular rosacea (investigator global severity score of 3). After cleansing the face with a gentle skin cleanser, participants applied metronidazole gel 1% once daily before applying their usual facial foundation. Two surveys were conducted: (1) investigator assessment of cosmetic appearance; and (2) participant assessment of cosmetic appearance. The investigator also evaluated erythema, disease severity, and tolerability at baseline and week 2. Adverse events were collected. The 28 per-protocol (PP) participants had a mean age (standard deviation [SD]) of 54.0 (10.3) years and a mean duration (SD) of rosacea of 15.4 (13.2) years. The median response score for both the investigator and participant assessments of cosmetic appearance was 10 (best) for each survey question. Signs and symptoms of rosacea did not increase with use of metronidazole gel 1% and the participants' selected cosmetic regimen. At baseline all 28 participants were classified as having moderate erythema. At week 2, 18 (64%) participants were classified as having moderate erythema and 10 (36%) mild. At baseline all 28 (100%) participants were classified as having moderate rosacea according to the investigator global severity score. At week 2, 10 (36%) participants were classified as mild and 18 (64%) moderate. In addition, few participants reported cutaneous irritation during the study. At week 2, 10 participants had dryness, 2 had itching, 8 had scaling, and 2 had stinging/burning. According to surveys completed by the investigator and the participants themselves, most participants had a good cosmetic appearance with their facial foundation cosmetics that were applied after metronidazole gel 1%. The use of various cosmetic regimens after application of metronidazole gel 1% did not cause rosacea symptoms to worsen and treatment was well-tolerated.

Rosacea is a prevalent inflammatory skin disorder that affects approximately 16 million individuals in the United States. Although its exact etiology is unknown, basic science, histologic evidence, and clinical evidence suggest that it is inflammatory in nature. In this 12-week, open-label, multicenter, community-based, phase 4 trial, we evaluated the anti-inflammatory effects of once daily subantimicrobial-dose doxycycline 40 mg (30-mg immediate-release and 10-mg delayed-release beads) in participants with papulopustular rosacea (PPR) who were receiving topical therapy (metronidazole, azelaic acid, and/ or sodium sulfacetamide-sulfur) at the time of the study entry but whose rosacea symptoms were still present. The primary outcome measure was the change in the investigator global assessment (IGA) score from baseline to end of study (week 12). Secondary outcome measures were changes from baseline to end of study in the clinician erythema assessment (CEA) score, treatment responders (IGA score of clear, near clear), and safety. After week 12, 75.7% of participants in the per-protocol (PP) population had IGA scores of clear or near clear. In addition, there were significant differences in the distribution of baseline and week 12 IGA scores in the PP group (P = .0012). At week 12, most participants (63.6%) had mild CEA scores; the distribution was significantly different from baseline (P = .0407). Only 7% of participants had treatment-related adverse events (AEs), mostly mild or moderate in severity. Thus the 40-mg formulation of doxycycline proved to be effective and well-tolerated in a real-world setting in participants with rosacea who were receiving topical therapy but still experiencing symptoms.

Changes to the skin of the face in patients with rosacea have the potential to substantially impair multiple domains of quality of life (QOL); however, the number of publications providing evidence for this topic is limited. This 12-week, open-label, community-based, phase 4 trial of 1421 participants is the largest study of the disease to date. It explores the effects of mild to severe rosacea and its treatment on QOL. Participants were treated with doxycycline 40 mg (30-mg immediate-release and 10-mg delayed-release beads) as monotherapy or add-on treatment to existing topical therapy. This article examines QOL issues in the primary analysis population consisting of 966 participants who completed the trial without a major protocol violation. Quality of life was assessed at baseline and study end (week 12) with the RosaQoL, a validated 21-question instrument. Participant and investigator satisfaction with treatment also were evaluated. In the monotherapy group, the mean RosaQoL score was 3.3 at baseline and 2.8 at end of study. In the add-on therapy group, the mean RosaQoL score was 3.2 at baseline and 2.8 at end of study. The improvement in QOL was both clinically and statistically significant (P.0001) and was similar in both monotherapy and add-on therapy groups. Most participants expressed satisfaction with treatment and approximately 90% of the community-based investigators reported that they were likely or very likely to continue prescribing this formulation. The study demonstrates that the impaired QOL in patients with rosacea can be substantially improved during a 3-month period by once-daily treatment with the anti-inflammatory activity of subantimicrobial-dose doxycycline.

Rosacea is a common inflammatory disorder of the skin of middle-aged and older adults. A unique 40-mg formulation of doxycycline (30-mg immediate-release and 10-mg delayed-release beads) developed for its anti-inflammatory properties is the only US Food and Drug Administration-approved oral medication for the disorder. This report describes the results of the Oracea for Rosacea: A Community-Based Assessment (ORCA) trial, a phase 4 trial of the 40-mg formulation as monotherapy in adults with mild to severe papulopustular rosacea. A total of 1197 participants were enrolled in the monotherapy arm of the 12-week open-label study at 271 community-based investigational sites. The primary outcome measure was a change in the 5-point investigator global assessment (IGA) score from baseline to end point (week 12). Secondary outcome measures included change in the 5-point clinician erythema assessment (CEA) score from baseline to end point, IGA success, and adverse events (AEs). The monotherapy per-protocol (PP) population was selected a priori as the primary analysis population and safety assessments were performed on all participants who received at least 1 dose of the study drug. In the PP population of 826 monotherapy participants who completed the trial, approximately 75% of participants with mild to severe rosacea at baseline were clear or near clear by week 12, according to IGA scores. Furthermore, approximately 75% of participants had CEA scores reflecting none or mild erythema after 12 weeks. In the safety population of 1196 participants, treatment-related AEs were reported in 6.7% of participants that were mainly mild or moderate in severity. Adverse events that occurred in more than 1% of the safety population included diarrhea (1.2%), nausea (1.3%), and headache (1.0%). The incidence of fungal and yeast infections was 0.4%. The results of the ORCA trial support the effectiveness and safety of the 40-mg formulation of doxycycline in patients with papulopustular rosacea.

Skin care regimens have been recommended in conjunction with topical medications for the treatment of rosacea. Specifically, a mild cleanser and a moisturizer can help relieve symptoms and maintain skin barrier integrity. The Assessment of Skin Characteristics Study, a multicenter open-label study (N=102), compared the use of a specified skin care regimen with or without the moisturizer component. Participants used a facial cleanser immediately before application of azelaic acid (AzA) gel 15% twice daily to both sides of the face and then applied the provided moisturizer to the right side of the face only. Scores for severity and duration of stinging, burning, tingling, and itching were recorded in the morning and evening for 7 days. Cumulative symptom scores (CSSs) decreased on the right side of the face with facial moisturizer applied.

The standard management options were developed by a consensus committee and review panel of 26 experts to assist in providing optimal patient care based on the standard classification and grading systems for rosacea that were developed to perform research; analyze results and compare data from different sources; and provide a common terminology and reference for the diagnosis, treatment, and assessment of results in clinical practice. We discuss standard management options for rosacea in 2 parts: (1) overview and broad spectrum of care, and (2) options according to subtype. The options are considered provisional and may be expanded and updated as appropriate. Managing the various potential signs and symptoms of rosacea calls for consideration of a broad spectrum of care, and a more precise selection of therapeutic options may become increasingly possible as the mechanism of action of therapies are more definitively established.
