22 patients suffering from exanthematic psoriasis were irradiated with the UV-lamps UVS 65-2 (Narva, Brand-Erbisdorf) or TL-01 (Philips Company, Eindhoven, Niederlande) respectively. The latter one emits a narrow-band UV-spectrum at 311 nm which seems to be most suitable for the treatment of psoriasis. On our condition the clearing rate was higher and the cumulative irradiation dose was significantly lower with the TL-01 lamp.

Histamine H1 receptor antagonists are a mainstay in the management of chronic/chronic recurrent urticaria (c./c.r.U.). Since experimental studies have confirmed the presence of cutaneous H2 receptors partially conflicting results have been reported on the use of H2 antagonists in c./c.r.U. 20 patients with c./c.r.U. of idiopathic type were treated with cimetidine plus clemastine or placebo plus clemastine in a double-blind crossover study. Before this treatment traditional H1 antagonists alone failed to show any satisfying therapeutic effect. The results reveal that combined therapy is statistically more effective than corresponding H1 antagonists alone (P = 0.001). The addition of cimetidine is proposed in patients with c./c.r.U. if conventional therapy has been tried and proven ineffective.

In comparative studies on some treatment-criteria of patients of a dermatological children-ward between 1967, 1969, 1971, 1973, 1975 and 1977 we found a tendency to increased out-patient-treatment, a reduction in period of clinical sojourn and a significant increase in patients drug consumption. Most important reasons of this development are the following: Temporary decrease of birth rate in GDR; increased capacity of out-patient-treatment in the Leipzig-area; application of more effective drugs; improvements in management of clinical treatment. About 50% of treated in-patients are 0 to 3 years old. The great importance of a qualified dermatological treatment for success of clinical sojourn on a children-ward is underlined.

The working behaviour of the UV-fluorescent tubes type UVS 20-2, UVS 40-2 and UVS 65-2 (Manufacturer: VEB NARVA "Rosa Luxemburg" Leuchten- und Leuchtstoff-lampenwerk Brand-Erbisdorf) applicated in phototherapy equipments has been investigated in four commercially and two self-made devices. In the first 100 hours of the application of the fluorescent tubes an exponential decrease of the irradiation power reaching a value of 30 percent must be considered. After an exchange of old tubes (1,500 working hours) to new one a jump in the irradiation power with a factor 2.5 may be observed. The temperature of the fluorescent tube altering after the switch and daily instabilities in the supply power influence the irradiation power in a way that must not be neglected. The emission of equipments with good remove of the tube heat is constant after 5 minutes. In constructions causing and maintaining a high temperature of the tubes this time is about 20 minutes.
