This paper aims at identifying the causal relationship between the reform of the cultural system and the upgrading of industrial structure, revealing the causal relationship between the reform of the cultural system and the upgrading of industrial structure, which is of great significance for promoting the reform of the cultural system and the upgrading of industrial structure. The impact of cultural administrative reform on industrial structure upgrading is empirically tested using panel data from 261 prefecture-level cities in China from 2001 to 2017. The double difference model and PSM-DID method are used. This includes conducting placebo tests and examining the robustness of empirical findings using other methods. The findings indicated that (1) the influence coefficient of the cultural administrative system reform on industrial structure upgrading is positive and passed the significance level test, indicating that the cultural administrative system reform significantly promoted industrial structure upgrading, and on average, it can improve the level of the urban industrial structure by 11.81 percent. (2) Theoretical analysis of the mechanism demonstrates that the innovation level acts as a link between cultural administrative system reform and industrial structure upgrading, implying that cultural administrative system reform promotes industrial structure upgrading by stimulating the innovation level of cultural enterprises. (3) The results of the heterogeneity analysis indicate that the influence of cultural administrative reform on industrial structure upgrading is highly regionally and economically differentiated. The higher the economic level of the local community, the more effective the promotion effect on industrial structure upgrading. The reform of the cultural administrative system has a greater impact on industrial structure upgrading in the eastern region than in the central and western regions. On the basis of the foregoing research findings, this paper makes some policy recommendations for releasing the overall system reform dividend based on the cultural system and promoting regional industrial structure upgrading. To clarify whether there is a spatial correlation problem among China's provincial energy consumption, economic growth, and ecological environment, this paper adopts the panel data of 31 provinces in China from 2008 to 2019 and uses a spatial data analysis method. This work studies economic growth and the spatial distribution pattern of the ecological environment, as well as the spatial effects of its energy consumption and economic growth on the ecological environment. Moreover, the spatial autocorrelation model, spatial-temporal transition method, and generalized moment estimation method are adopted to conduct empirical analysis on the research object. The results show that (1) there are spatial correlations among energy consumption, economic growth, and the ecological environment in China's provinces, and there are obviously different agglomeration areas in spatial distribution; (2) energy consumption, economic growth, and the ecological environment level show different growth trends, and the differences between different provinces in provincial units are shrinking; and (3) regarding energy consumption, the spatial impact of economic growth on the ecological environment is obvious, and there are obvious "path dependence" characteristics in the spatial distribution and positive correlations. The purpose of this paper is to reveal the mechanism and process of the dynamic evolution of the economy-energy-environment (EEE) system and study the variables that determine the speed of system evolution and development. The innovation is to overcome the defect of single index by constructing a system evaluation index and reveal the regional EEE system's evolution mechanism based on Haken's synergetic theory to supplement a systematic perspective's empirical evidence. It selects 30 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions in China to empirically analyse the evolution mechanism of the EEE system from 2005 to 2019. The empirical results show that economic development is the order parameter of the evolution and development of the EEE system. In the process of system evolution, the economic development subsystem is the decisive factor in EEE system evolution. In terms of the positive feedback mechanism of order parameter combination, the EEE system forms a positive feedback mechanism for increasing economic development in the stage of evolution and development. The negative feedback mechanism of decreasing environmental pollution emissions is formed in the EEE system. The increase in pollutant emissions has a certain inhibitory effect on economic growth. The improvement in the economic development level has no promoting effect on pollutants, and economic development, in turn, reduces environmental pollution. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Finance contributes to poverty alleviation through economic growth, and the development of green finance is related to the sustainable development of the world economy and environment. Green finance not only helps promote sustainable economic development but also helps reduce poverty. Based on the analysis of related theories about green finance and poverty alleviation, this paper selects 18 indicators from three dimensions of economic development, financial development, and social environmental development and uses the improved entropy method to measure the green finance development index of China's 25 provinces and municipalities from 2004 to 2017. The results show that the development level of green finance in China's 25 provinces and municipalities is quite different. On the basis of the above analysis, make an empirical analysis of the impact of the green finance development index on poverty alleviation using multiple regression analysis and static panel and dynamic panel estimation methods. The research results show that there is a significant positive correlation between green finance and poverty alleviation; the higher the level of green finance development, the more conducive the poverty alleviation. So, this paper suggests that poverty can be better alleviated by improving the level of green finance development, financial asset level, and economic development level. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Borrowing debt has impacted on the financing effect and governance effect of investment entities. Borrowing debt has become an important financing channel for the investment and construction of municipal infrastructure in China. In this paper, panel data from 2003 to 2018 in cities above the prefecture level in China are used to study the impact of borrowing debt on the efficiency loss of municipal infrastructure investment and construction. First, the results indicate that financing constraints have a greater impact than agency costs for the investment and construction of municipal infrastructure in China. Second, borrowing debt can effectively reduce the efficiency loss of municipal infrastructure investment and construction due to financing constraints. Third, the governance effect of borrowing debt is not very positive, but the rigid repayment of debt and interest to international banks will play some positive governance effects in the later stage. County-levelization has become an important vane and propeller of urban spatial development, which is closely related to economic development and public service development. County-levelization can effectively broaden the geographic scope of urban areas, enhance urban functions, and implement strategic planning measures for metropolitan areas. But what impact will such reform have on economic growth and public service development? What is the effect of the current policy of "abolishing counties and establishing districts" in the implementation process? Should the policy of "abolishing counties and establishing districts" be promoted or not? Based on a panel of 453 counties in China, this paper uses DID to analyze the impact of county zoning on county economic growth and public service development and uses PSM-DID to test the robustness. The study shows that county-levelization in China has had a positive effect on economic growth, but in the areas of education and health/public services, such reforms have only had a "squeeze effect" with minimal effect. Based on the panel data of 30 Chinese province in 2005–2018, this paper quantifies agricultural carbon reduction efficiency (CRE), using the slack-based measure (SBM)-data envelopment analysis (DEA) model with undesired outputs (SBM-DEA ∗ ), and empirically tests that development of land circulation market directly affects agricultural CRE, and indirectly affects agricultural CRE via scale operation of farmland. The results show that the following: (1) In the observation period, China's agricultural CREs generally evolved from a low level to a high level, with an annual growth rate of 8.0%, but there is still a large space of carbon reduction. (2) Overall, land circulation significantly promoted agricultural CRE, but the promoting effect varied from region to region: the promoting effect was significant in eastern and central regions, and insignificant in western region. (3) Scale operation of farmland had a nonlinear, partial mediation effect on how land circulation influences agricultural CRE; land circulation greatly accelerated the scale operation of farmland, while the growing scale of farmland utilization had an inverted U-shaped influence on agricultural CRE. Our research results imply that promoting land circulation directly drives the low-carbon transformation of agriculture in China, but excessive scale operation of farmland might hinder agricultural carbon reduction. Based on data of 31 provinces in China for the period 2007–2017, this paper establishes spatial models by means of a transcendental logarithmic production function and analyzes the impact of regional credit and technological innovation on regional economic growth. The Jenks natural breaks method, kernel density function, and Moran index are introduced for spatial statistical analysis. Spatial weight matrices are constructed from two aspects of geographical characteristics and innovative input characteristics. The empirical results show significant spatial heterogeneity and spatial autocorrelation in economic growth, regional credit, and technological innovation. Both regional credit and technological innovation are important impacts to economic growth, whereas the interaction of regional credit and technological innovation has a negative effect on provincial economic growth. Therefore, we argue that China should rationally allocate regional credit resources, strengthen technological innovation capabilities, and boost the integrated development of regional credit and technological innovation. Drawing on three-wave panel data from China Family Panel Studies (CFPS) of 2014, 2016, and 2018, this paper measures rural households' vulnerability to relative poverty using the three-stage feasible generalized least squares (FGLS) model. We analyze the impact of human capital on vulnerability to relative poverty by using the two-way fixed-effected model and panel quantile regression. Empirical results exhibited that labor force migration, health, education, and working experience all have a negative effect on vulnerability to relative poverty. Labor force migration has the greatest negative effect among the four factors. Heterogeneity analysis results exhibited that labor force migration has the biggest negative effect in the east region. Health and education have the greatest negative impact in the central region. As important carriers of local innovation activities, innovative industrial clusters are attracting increasing attention. Therefore, several countries have started promotion policies for innovative industrial clusters. However, there are few empirical studies on relevant policies. This paper investigates the impact of China's "innovative industrial cluster pilot" (IICP) policy on regional innovation. Taking the implementation of IICP policy as a quasi-natural experiment and using the panel data of 266 prefecture-level cities in China in 2008-2019, this paper provides strong evidence that IICP policy promotes regional innovation. The conclusion still holds after a battery of robustness checks. The heterogeneity test shows that the promoting effect of IICP policy on innovation is more significant in central and western region than in eastern region. Moreover, the lower the city administrative level and the lower the dependence on natural resource, the more prominent the innovation effect of IICP policy. Further, the mechanism test shows that the IICP policy can promote regional innovation indirectly by strengthening government support for innovation and attracting the agglomeration of science and technological talents, but the mediation effect of industrial structure has not been verified. Green economy is environmentally friendly economy, which is important for the sustainable economic development and environmental protection. Based on the panel data of 30 provinces and cities in China, a three-stage super-efficient SBM-DEA (slack-based model-data envelopment analysis) model is constructed to evaluate the efficiency of green economy and analyze its regional differences. The results show that, first, the random error factor and external environmental conditions significantly affect the efficiency of green economy. Second, the green economic efficiency in China from 2010 to 2019 is stable and needs to be further improved. Third, through regional comparison, it is found that the green economy efficiency in eastern China is higher than those in central and western China and the green economy efficiency in northeast China is the lowest. Finally, green economy efficiency does not simply depend on the economic development, the regional differences of green economy efficiency results from the combined effects of different geographical resources endowment, different economic development characteristics, and different environmental protection policies in different regions of China. In recent years, China has become the world's largest importer of grain, and scholars have particularly examined whether China's grain import trade presents this effect. By applying cointegration analysis to trade statistics panel data of China's wheat, corn, rice, and soybean production and imports from January 2016 to December 2019, this paper empirically tests for the existence of the great country effect in China's grain import trade. The results show that during the sample period, there is a long-term stable equilibrium relationship between the import volume, domestic price, and international price of the four major grains; the great country effect in the import trade of wheat and rice is not significant. The imports of corn and soybean present a great country effect to a certain extent in the short term; moreover, a change in the grain price in the international market does not lead to a change in China's grain import volume, which shows that the great country effect in China's grain import trade is distorted. Therefore, China should pay close attention to the impact of international factors on the fluctuation of its own food prices and enhance its ability to rationally utilize the international food market and international agricultural resources to ensure domestic food security. Manufacturing is one of the drivers of China's growth, realizing structural upgrading is vital to achieve high-quality economic development during periods of economic policy uncertainty. Based on firm-level and province-level panel data from 1997 to 2018, this paper used a fixed effect panel data model and panel quantile regression model to investigate the effect of economic policy uncertainty on structural upgrading in manufacturing. The findings indicate that the effect of economic policy uncertainty on structural upgrading in manufacturing is significantly positive and great in regions at advanced stages of manufacturing structure. The discussion about the results suggests that the mechanism of economic policy uncertainty affecting structural upgrading in manufacturing operates through pushing the manufacturing industry to implement service transformation strategies along with vertical integration. Understanding the correlation between cognitive ability and risk preferences is crucial for promoting technological progress and innovation in China. This study aims to investigate this relationship using survey data from the China Family Panel Studies. The results reveal a significant positive correlation between cognitive ability and risk tolerance. Science and technology innovation is the new driving force of urban development, and it is an important vehicle to promote financial development. Innovative city attaches importance to the driving role of science and technology innovation capacity on industry development in the construction process, which will drive the development of the city's financial industry. This article takes China's innovative city pilot policy as a quasinatural experiment and uses the panel data of 235 prefecture-level cities in China from 2005 to 2017 to construct a difference-in-differences model (DID) to investigate the net effect and mechanism of the policy implementation on the financial development level of pilot cities. The results show the following: (1) the construction of innovative cities has significantly improved the financial development level of pilot cities, and the conclusion is still valid through the robustness test; (2) the financial development level promotion effect of innovative city construction has regional heterogeneity, and the financial development level promotion effect of central cities is more significant; (3) the construction of innovative cities can improve the financial development level of pilot cities by improving the intermediary effect of scientific and technological talents gathering and industrial structure upgrading. This study estimates the effects of the Sino-US trade liberalization on CO2 emissions in China and its influencing mechanism. We used the exchange of CNY/USD as the instrumental variable to alleviate the endogeneity with the two-stage least squares method. Different from the existing literature focusing on implied carbon, we use panel data of 27 provinces in China from 1998 to 2018 to examine the relationship between the Sino-US trade liberalization and CO2 emissions. Based on the review of previous studies and the analysis of the dynamic changes of misallocation of capital and labour in China during 2003–2017, this study has adopted the Dynamic Panel Econometric Model to investigate the effects of land finance on resource misallocation at national, regional, and urban tier levels. The results show that resource misallocation has a significant feature of temporal dependence, while the misallocations of capital and labour in China have experienced different dynamic changes during the investigation period. In addition, land finance has aggravated resource misallocation at the national level, while spatial heterogeneity is established at regional and urban tier levels, which deserves much more attention in further studies. The conclusions will not only provide a relatively scientific and accurate reference for the effective allocation of production factors but also be conducive to the coordinated and sustainable development of China's economy in the long run.
