A recent study conducted at the Federal University Parana in Curitiba, Brazil, explored the potential therapeutic use of biperiden, an M1 muscarinic receptor antagonist, for cocaine use disorder (CUD). The study found that biperiden effectively reduced the positive affective effects of cocaine by inhibiting the increase in 50-kHz ultrasonic vocalizations (USV) induced by cocaine administration in rats. However, biperiden did not affect the increase in locomotor activity caused by cocaine. These findings suggest that biperiden may have potential as a treatment for CUD.
