Objective: This study aimed to assess the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Severity Measure for Specific Phobia -- Child Form according to DSM-5. Method: The study group consisted of 50 patients treated in a child psychiatry unit and diagnosed with any specific phobia and 100 healthy volunteers. For the assessment, the Screen for Childhood Anxiety and Related Emotional Disorders (SCARED) was used along with the Severity Measure for Specific Phobia -- Child Form according to DSM-5. Results: For reliability, Cronbach's alpha internal consistency coefficient was calculated to be 0.961. Testretest correlation coefficient was calculated r=0.750. As for construct validity, one factor that could explain 74.1% of the variance was obtained, which is consistent with the original structure of the scale. As for concurrent validity, the correlation coefficient with the SCARED in children is r=0.480. Conclusion: It was concluded that the Turkish version of the DSM-5 Severity Measure for Specific Phobia -- Child Form can be utilized as a valid and reliable tool both in clinical practice and for research purposes. Objective: The purpose of this study is to examine the psychometric properties of the Barkley Child Attention Scale (BCAS) for 6- to 12-year-old children. Method: This study was conducted with 291 children (of an age of 6-12 years) with a clinically normal level of intelligence and a diagnosis of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The structure validity of the scale was studied by exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses. In order to evaluate the measuredependent validity of the scale, Child Behavior Checklist for ages 6-18 and Swanson, Nolan and Pelham Questionnaire (SNAP-IV) parental form were used. Reliability of the scale was measured by Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Results: As a result of the exploratory factor analysis, the scale consists of two factors called "daydreaming" and "sluggish," as is the case in its original form. Confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the fit indices of the scale were at an acceptable level. The correlation analysis study for the criterion-related validity study of the scale revealed that Sluggish Cognitive Tempo (SCT) had a positive correlation with ADHD-IN and internalization problems, a negative correlation with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder/hyperactivityimpulsivity (ADHD-HI), and no correlation with externalization problems. Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the BCAS is 0.86 and the scale is seen to be reliable. Conclusion: It can be said that the BCAS is a valid and reliable scale that can measure sluggish cognitive tempo symptoms of 6- to 12-year-old children. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: This study aimed to assess the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the DSM-5 "Severity Measure for Agoraphobia--Child Age 11-17". Method: Study group consisted of 36 patients, who have been treated in a child psychiatry unit and diagnosed with agoraphobia, and 100 healthy volunteers who have been secondary and highschool students. For the assessment, the Screen for Childhood Anxiety and Related Emotional Disorders (SCARED) was used along with the DSM-5 "Severity Measure for Agoraphobia--Child Age 11-17". Results: Regarding reliability analyses, Cronbach's alpha internal consistency coefficient was calculated as 0.929. Test-retest correlation coefficient was 0.566. For concurrent validity, the measure showed a high correlation with the SCARED. In ROC analysis, area under ROC curve was calculated as 0.934. Conclusion: It was concluded that Turkish version of the DSM-5 "Severity Measure for Agoraphobia--Child Age 11-17" could be used as a valid and reliable tool both in clinical practice and for research purposes. Objective: This study aimed to assess the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of DSM-5 "Severity of Acute Stress Symptoms--Child Age 11-17" Form. Method: The scale was prepared by carrying out the translation and back- translation of DSM-5 "Severity of Acute Stress Symptoms--Child Age 11-17" Form. Study group consisted of 30 patients that have been treated in a child psychiatry clinic and diagnosed with posttraumatic stress disorder and 40 healthy volunteers that attended middle or high school at the study period. For the assessment, Child Posttraumatic Stress Reaction Index was also used along with DSM-5 "Severity of Acute Stress Symptoms--Child Age 11-17" Form Results: Regarding reliability analyses, Cronbach alpha coefficient for internal consistency was calculated as 0.918 while item-total score correlation coefficients ranged 0.595-0.837. Test-retest correlation coefficient was calculated as r=0.651. Concerning construct validity, one factor that could explain 67.7% of the variance was obtained. With respect to concurrent validity, the scale showed a high correlation with Child Posttraumatic Stress Reaction Index. Conclusion: It was concluded that Turkish version of DSM-5 "Severity of Acute Stress Symptoms--Child Age 11-17" Form could be used as a valid and reliable tool both in clinical practice and for research purposes. Objective: Mental contamination is defined as feelings of internal dirtiness in absence of actual contact with a dirty physical object or a person. Mental contamination is considered to play an important role in maintenance and persistence of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). This study aimed to examine psychometric properties of the Turkish version of two objective measures of mental contamination: Vancouver Obsessive Compulsive Inventory-Mental Contamination Scale (VOCI-MC) and Thought-Action Fusion-Contamination Scale (TAF-CS). Method: The participants were 255 university students (183 females and 70 males) with the age range of 18-28 years. The participants were asked to fill out the questionnaire set consisted of VOCI-MC, TAF-CS, Thought-Action Fusion Scale (TAFS), Disgust Scale-Revised, Trait Anger Expression Inventory and Obsessive Compulsive Inventory-Revised (OCI-R). Results: Reliability analyses indicated that internal consistency of VOCI-MC and TAF-CS were 0.93 and 0.92, and test-retest reliabilities were 0.79 and 0.61, respectively. Consistent with the original study, the results of explanatory and confirmatory factor analysis indicated that both scales had one factor structure. Convergent and divergent validity analyses revealed that both scales were positively correlated with OCI-R total scores and its subscales as well as TAF total score and its subscales; but this relationship was significantly less strong for Trait Anger and Disgust Sensitivity. While VOCI-MC significantly predicted OCD symptomatology, TAF-CS had no predictive power in this regard. Conclusions: The results support that psychometric properties of the Turkish versions of the scales meet acceptable standards for validity and reliability, and therefore can be used among Turkish population. The adaptation of the Dimensions of Identity Development Scale into Turkish Objective: In recent years, studies about identity development have focused on processes in identity development. The aim of this study was to adapt the Dimensions of Identity Development Scale which measures processes in identity development into Turkish. Method: The Dimensions of Identity Development Scale was administered to 602 participants (322 females, 280 males) in total, aged between 18-23. To determine factor structure of the scale, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, and for reliability, internal consistency analysis were performed. Correlations between identity development dimensions and score of the Satisfaction with Life Scale were evaluated for criterion validity testing. To determine identity status cluster analysis was performed. Results: Results of exploratory (explained variance 57.43%) and confirmatory factor analysis showed that the Dimensions of Identity Development Scale was valid. Correlations between the identity development dimensions and score of the Satisfaction with Life Scale were statistically significant Internal consistency coefficients (commitment making 0.88, identification with commitment 0.87, exploration in breadth 0.84, exploration in depth 0.78, ruminative exploration 0.79) showed that the Dimensions of Identity Development Scale was reliable. In the cluster analysis, six identity status (achievement, foreclosure, moratorium, diffused diffusion, carefree diffusion, undifferentiated) were found. Psychometric properties of the magical ideation scale in high school adolescents Objective: The validity and reliability studies of the Magical Ideation Scale (MIS) have already been conducted among university students. The purpose of this study was to define the psychometric properties of the MIS among adolescents attending high school. Method: Four hundred twenty two high school students attending an Anatolian High School and classical high schools within Kocaeli city center during the education year 2011-2012 participated in this research. Among the participants 222 (52.6%) were female and 200 (47.4%) were male. The average age of the students was 15.68±0.67. The participants were administered MIS and Irrational Belief Scale Adolescent Form (IBS-A). For the confirmatory factor analysis and reliability analysis, Cronbach alpha coefficient 27% sub-upper group method was used for the validation of the MIS. For the discriminant validity transaction of the scale, the correlation value was calculated with the IBSA. Findings: After the confirmatory factor analysis transaction, Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA) was found as 0.039; Non-normed Fit Index (NNFI) was calculated as 0.90; Comparative Fit Index (CFI) was calculated as 0.91; Incremental Fit Index (IFI) was found as 0.91; and Goodness of Fit Index (GFI) was found as 0.90. Besides, the internal consistency coefficient was found as α=0.80 for female students and α=0.76 for male students. In the discriminant validity study, the level of relation between the irrational beliefs and magical ideation was calculated as r=0.11. Conclusion: The validity and reliability analysis findings obtained from the study revealed that the MIS was a valid and reliable scale in measuring the magical ideation. Objective: The psychometric properties of the Drug Abuse Screening Test (DAST-10), developed to screen individuals for drug problems, are evaluated in Turkish patients with drug use disorder. Method: Participants included 100 adolescents with drug use disorder in a substance abuse treatment program for adolescents, 123 heroin dependent adults in a residential substance abuse treatment program, and 35 alcohol dependents from the same clinic who did not report a drug abuse problem. Results: The DAST-10 was found to be a psychometrically sound drug abuse screening measure with high convergent validity (r=0.76) when correlation with the Drug Use Disorders Identification Test (DUDIT) was measured and to have a Cronbach's alpha of 0.92. In addition, a single component accounted for 59.35% of total variance, and the DAST-10 had sensitivity and specificity scores of 0.98 and 0.91, respectively, when using the optimal cut-off score of 4. Additionally, the DAST-10 showed good discriminant validity as it significantly differentiated patients with drug use disorder from alcohol dependents. Conclusions: These findings support the DAST as a reliable and valid drug abuse screening instrument that measures a unidimensional construct. Objective: The purpose of this study was to adapt the Personal Growth Initiative Scale-ll (PGIS-II) to Turkish and to test validity and reliability of the Turkish version. The original scale consisted of four subscales, namely planfulness, readiness for change, using resources, and intentional behavior. Methods: The sample consisted of 279 students from Ankara University. Besides PGIS-II, Life Satisfaction Scale and Trait Hope Scale were administrated to the participants. Results: Confirmatory factor analysis revealed that 4-factor structure of the original scale was acceptable for the Turkish sample. Correlations between PGIS-II and other scales were ranging from 0.20 to 0.55. Internal consistency and test-retest correlation of the scale were 0.91 and 0.80, respectively. Conclusion: It was found that the 4-factor model of the PGIS-II is appropriate for Turkish culture and the scale could be used to measure personal growth initiative. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The term agency has been defined as a sense of responsibility for one's life course, the belief that one is in control of one's decisions about life and is responsible for their outcomes and the confidence that one will be able to overcome obstacles that impede one’s progress along one’s chosen life course. The "Multi- Measure Agentic Personality Scale (MAPS)"was designed to measure agentic personality. The present study aimed to assess the applicability of the MAPS for Turkish youngsters. Methods: Data from a total of 410 participants (male n=188, 45.8%; female n=222, 54.2%) were utilized for validity and reliability analyses. Of the participants, 196 (47.8%) were university students and the rest were not (n=214; 52.2%). The mean age of the participants was 22.5 (SD=1.9) ranging from 19 to 25. Results: Exploratory factor analysis yielded four-factor model explaining 57.43% of the variance. Confirmatory factor analyses (χ2/sd=3.11, GFI=0.94, RMSEA=0.05) and second-order factor analyses (χ2/sd=3.87, GFI=0.99, RMSEA=0.03) indicated that a four factor solution met the criteria standards for adequacy of fit. The internal consistency and test-retest stability revealed a moderate to high reliabilities. After analyzing the data, 5 items were dropped from the original scale. Examination of psychometric properties of the Turkish version form of the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire in university students Objective: It is aimed to examine the psychometric properties of the Turkish form of the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire (OHQ) in this study. Method: The participants of the study are constituted by 491 university students studying in Sakarya University Education Faculty in 2011-2012 education year. All of the participants were subjected to the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire (OHQ) and randomly selected 173 participants were subjected to the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), Life Orientation Test (LOT), Positive^egative Affect Scale (PANAS) and Subjective Happiness Scale (SHS) besides (OHQ). Firstly, linguistic equivalence of the scale was examined. After ensuring the linguistic equivalence, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis methods were used to examine the structural validity of OHQ and for criterion related validity, the correlations of OHQ with other measuring methods used within the study were checked. The reliability of OHQ was examined with composite reliability, internal consistency and split-half methods. Findings: According to exploratory factor analysis results, a structure whose eigen value was 8.3 and which explained 29.84% of total variance was obtained. It was seen that the factor loads of the scale varied between 0.32 and 0.77. The findings obtained as a result of confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the one-factor structure of the scale was retained in the sample comprising Turkish university students. As a result of the analysis for criterion related validity, significant relations were found between OHQ and other measuring means evaluating happiness and optimism. In structural reliability analysis, Cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficient of OHQ was found 0.91 and reliability coefficient obtained with test half-life method was found 0.86 and composite reliability of the scale was found 0.91. Conclusion: The findings obtained in this study indicate that Turkish form of OHQ has a one-factor structure and this form can be used as a valid and reliable measuring means in evaluating happiness in university students. Objective: We have aimed to conduct reliability and validity study of Psychological Screening Test for Adolescents (PSTA). The scale was developed in order to investigate the psychological conditions and urgent psychological needs of juvenile delinquents by screening for most crucial factors. Method: For this study, interviews were carried out with a sample of 90 male delinquent adolescents in three different juvenile penal institutions in Turkey. For each subject, PSTA and Youth Self Report (YSR) scale were filled out. The interviews were performed by psychologists and social workers in psychological service departments of these institutions. Results: The statistical investigations have shown that PSTA has an Interrater reliability of r=0.89 and a high internal reliability (α=0.79). There is a high level of positive correlation between YSR total score and PSTA total score (r=0.60). Also, based on the scores received from attention deficit and hyperactivity, psychosis and depression-anxiety sub-sections of PSTA, the sample was divided into high and low score groups for each sub-section. Those groups were compared based on the scores of corresponding sub-sections of YSR. The high score groups of each sub-section of PSTA had significantly higher scores on YSR, showing that the scale has high criterion validity. The factor analysis shows that sub-sections of PSTA were grouped under two factors, which explained 50.35% of the variance. Discussion: Based on the analyses, it has been found that PSTA is a reliable and valid screening tool, which can be used for investigating psychological conditions and the need for further assessment of juvenile delinquents upon admission to penal institutions. Conclusion: In penal Institutions, where effective and reliable screening devices are needed to be applied in a short amount of time; the short application time and length of PSTA would be an advantage, beside the fact that it is a reliable and valid psychological screening device for adolescents. Objective: Drinking Motives Questionnaire (DMQ-R) is a 20-item questionnaire that assesses four categories of drinking motives (social, coping, enhancement, and conformity). In the aim of this study, the reliability and validity and factorial structure of the Turkish translation of the DMQ-R in male alcohol dependent inpatients were determined. Method: The study was conducted with hospitalized patients between August 2008 and March 2009 in Bakirkoy State Hospital for Mental Health and Neurological Disorders, AMATEM (Alcohol and Drug Research, Treatment and Education Center) in Istanbul. Participants were 155 consecutively admitted male alcohol dependents. Patients were investigated with the DMQ-R, the Obsessive-Compulsive Drinking Scale (OCDS) and the Michigan Alcohol Screening Test (MAST). The internal consistency of the Turkish version of DMQ-R was evaluated by the Cronbach's Alpha test, and for validity investigation the OCDS and the MAST was used. Results: The Turkish version of the scale with 20 item questionnaire was found to be compatible with the original scale. In alcohol dependents, the internal consistency coefficient (Cronbach's alpha) was 0.794 for "Conformity" scale, 0.849 for "Social" scale, 0.843 for "Coping" and 0.789 for "Enhancement". For each of the items, the corrected item-total correlation values were between 0.652 and 0.848 (p<0.001). Test-retest correlations were 0.602 for "Conformity" scale, 0.549 for "Social" scale, 0.657 for "Coping" and 0.637 for "Enhancement". Four subscales of the DMQ-R, total score of the OCDS and the MAST were correlated significantly in the degree of p<0.001, other than "social" motives, which was correlated significantly in the degree of p<0.01. Conclusions: Results which were obtained in this study suggests that the Turkish version of the DMQ-R was reliable and valid for alcohol dependent inpatients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
