Chemistry ,QD1-999 - Abstract
Polystyrene latex spheres were obtained by free-emulsifier polymerization of styrene. Suspension was characterized by Photon Correlation Spectroscopy (PCS) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and were observed to be monodisperse with sizes around 463 nm. A vertical deposition method was used in order to prepare films deposited on glass slides from the spheres suspension. High-quality opal-like films were obtained and characterized by Reflectance Spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Optical Microscopy.

Chemistry ,QD1-999 - Abstract
The present study describes synthesis and parcial characterization of Eu3+, Nd3+, Dy3+, Tb3+ and Yb3+ behenate complexes. The compounds were analyzed using IR-Spectroscopy, TG-DTG, DSC, elemental analysis, XRD, luminescence and SEM. The results show the purity of the compounds. The XRD analysis and the SEM images show the high cristalinity of the complexes. TG-DTG and DSC analyses do not show a liquid crystal behavior, as occurs with other lanthanide metallic soaps. The mass loses until 1000° C show that the compounds lose ligand fragments at specific temperatures. XRD of the residues are compatible with the respective lanthanide oxides. The luminescence analysis shows that the Eu3+, Nd3+ and Tb3+ complexes presents appreciable emission. The Judd-Ofelt parameters obtained are compatible with the values found in the literature. It was not possible to obtain the complexes in a glass-form because it is difficult to prevent the crystallization of the complexes even using liquid nitrogen. The XDR data indicate that one of the complexes axis has 52 Å of length, agreeing with a structure containing behenate-lanthanide ion-behenate. The structures of the complexes were not fully elucidated and more analyses are necessary. The complexes presented a molar ratio of 3:1 (L:M) and were formulated as Bh3Eu, Bh3Nd, Bh3Dy, Bh3Tb e Bh3Yb (Bh = behenate anion).

Chemistry ,QD1-999 - Abstract
The present paper discusses the recent advances about the biosynthesis and production of bacterial cellulose (BC), from gram-negative, aerobic and acetic acid Gluconcetobacter xylinus (Gx). The BC differs from his vegetal pair, mainly due his feature of nanometric fibers, as opposed to micrometric feature of vegetal cellulose, are extruded through the cellular wall of Gx, thereby the macroscopic structure of BC is mechanically and physically more resistant, open big opportunities of biological and technological applications, apart from that obtained by vegetal cellulose. The actual challenge is in the grown of production of BC, which deals a superior understanding of his biosynthesis, to makes possible a later genetic-biochemical manipulation derived from recent advances in molecular biology. Are related works using the BC for production of composites and also what is being done of more actual with this biological material.

Chemistry ,QD1-999 - Abstract
In this work, using coacervation process, the influence of the pH in the stability of the coacervates of the NaPO3/AgNO3/H2O system was studied. The coacervate domain was established using different concentrations of NaPO3 and AgNO3 and the influence of the pH in the stability of the coacervate was putfoward. The coacervates obtained at pH ~ 5 present highest stability.

Polystyrene latex spheres were obtained by free-emulsifier polymerization of styrene.
