The article focuses on the strategies in dissociating the effects of logging and hunting on animal populations in central Africa. It compares the relative importance of selective logging and hunting to the effects of local-scale variation in forest structure and fruit abundance. It suggests that landscapes should be managed properly to balance conservation with the need for economic development and wild meat.

The article presents a study on the impact of logging to aboveground live biomass in rainforests lowland areas at the Makapa concession in Papua New Guinea. It applied modified Bitterlich plotless technique to quantify aboveground live biomass of logged and unlogged regions. Results show that the regions have a mean aboveground carbon loss of 35 ± 2.8 Megagram per hectare. It adds that the plotless technique was efficient in estimating the logging damage and mean aboveground biomass.

This article focuses on presettlement forest conditions in northern Minnesota. World wide, change in southern boreal forests was profound in the 20th century and has been linked to the reduction of fires and the nearly simultaneous introduction of logging. In northeastern Minnesota and adjacent Ontario, fiber production represents a significant component of the regional economy. Therefore, quantifying previous changes, monitoring current trends, and predicting future forest conditions, will be valuable in the development of regional and national long-term management and policy for sustainable forests. Timber harvesting elsewhere in the Lake States region of the United States had already reached its maximum extraction period by the 1880s, when much of northeastern Minnesota was just beginning to be harvested. Prior to timber harvesting, forest fires were the primary disturbance agent in northeastern Minnesota. The focus of this paper is on the influence of logging and associated fire suppression as a driver of regional forest change in the southern boreal forest.
