The article examines a dispute between Aydin Dogan, a mass media financier in Turkey, and the government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The government has fined Dogan's company $2.5 billion for alleged tax fraud, which Dogan says is a politically inspired charge, as his media properties have been critical of Erdogan's Justice & Development (AK) Party. Both freedom of the press and freedom of speech have long been limited in Turkey.
