- Abstract
Blockchain technology is being introduced in all areas and procedures of verification, identification and recording of the virtual world. Some of its applications are simple translations of methods that are already being developed in other technical supports, but most of them provide new utilities that can change the technological context of scientific documentation. In this article we present an updated panorama of the initiatives based on blockchain for the management of scientific and technological documentation, highlighting those aspects that make this new technology a differentiated and authentically novel tool. A critical analysis with theoretical and practical considerations on its potential use completes the content of this work. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
This article is a summary of the different pathways to publish research data, of metrics for evaluating publishing and reuse, and of the existing services for measuring the reuse of research data. It is not yet possible to accurately analyze the metrics for open research data and this is one of the reasons why, in general, researchers do not include them in the assessment of their work. In order to further the use of these tools, it is necessary to increase the number of studies about these evaluation metrics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper studies research data repositories in the social sciences and humanities (SSH), from the Registry of Research Data Repositories (re3data), paying particular attention to metadata models used to describe the datasets included in them. 397 repositories are reviewed at the general level, including those of a multidisciplinary nature. We discuss and reflect on the special features of research data in these disciplines, and on coverage and information collected by re3data. The metadata schemas and standards most commonly used in SSH repositories are analyzed, with special emphasis on the six main repositories. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article highlights the opportunity that libraries have to transform and develop their services towards the management and exploitation of data. After setting the scene in the introduction, the article provides a definition of library data services and explains the meaning of term "data" in multiple settings. In order to prove that data services within libraries are not uncommon, the evolution of these types of services is analysed: from the initial social science data libraries to the current research data management services and data curation. This leads to expanding the role of data services as a strategic area for the analysis of the organizational knowledge, always led by libraries. The article finishes by looking at the new professionals, their skills and the background required to provide this new library data services. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

INFORMATION sharing , *INSTITUTIONAL repositories , *INFORMATION storage & retrieval systems , *OPEN access publishing , *MANAGEMENT , *COMPUTER network resources - Abstract
To associate research data to the published results favors their reuse by the scientific community, but this does not afford sufficient guarantees of preservation. To store them in databases solves this contingency and provides visibility, but in Spain there are not many services of this kind. For this reason, we describe, evaluate and discuss the pros and cons of foreign multidisciplinary data repositories that can be useful for researchers and information managers: Dryad, Figshare, Zenodo and Dataverse. It is still early to choose optimally and definitively one or the other application, so we conclude with recommendations to guide the user community and intermediaries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

INFORMATION sharing , *INFORMATION storage & retrieval systems , *SCIENCE databases , *DIGITAL preservation , *INSTITUTIONAL repositories , *GOVERNMENT policy , *RESEARCH , *MANAGEMENT - Abstract
The sharing of research data is a hot topic at the international level, especially due to the development of e-science, based on collaborative working methods that use technology in an intensive manner. The amount of digital data and of its sharing is growing fast, and a lack of proper management could limit the potential benefits to stakeholders (researchers, governments and public funding agencies, research managers and libraries, and finally the publishing sector). The aim of this review is first to place the sharing of electronic research data in the context of its appearance and of open environments; secondly, it describes the life cycle model of data preservation; finally, it describes several initiatives dealing with methodologies and technologies. In parallel, international developments and highlights needs that exist in Spain are described. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ORGANIZATIONAL transparency , *FRAUD in science , *OPEN access publishing , *FRAUD - Abstract
The concept of open data, which demands that many more conditions be met than simple internet accessability in any format, is analyzed. Some examples are given about the importance of open data repositories in efforts to promote transparency in science and avoid scientific fraud. Some of the main problems in the management of data repositories are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

INFORMATION sharing , *SCIENTIFIC community , *INSTITUTIONAL repositories , *EDITORIAL policies , *SCIENTIFIC communication - Abstract
The emergence in the scientific community of an initiative known as data sharing, consisting of sharing research data among researchers and aiming to maximize efforts and resources, is analysed. First, the concept of research data and the related technical difficulties depending on the discipline are reviewed. We also examine the motivations, origins and growth of this movement, which has had an important impact on the scientific community's behaviour through the creation of repositories and data banks, raising both technical and social challenges. Then we discuss leading funding agencies' initiatives and scientific journals' editorial policies promoting these practices. Finally, we examine the impact these major changes in researchers' habits have for librarians, including the emergence of new professional profiles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ACADEMIC libraries , *DIGITAL preservation , *INTERNET research , *ACADEMIC librarians , *CATALOGING , *DIGITIZATION of library materials , *INFORMATION services - Abstract
Academic libraries are facing a range of new challenges in the 21st century. Models of scholarly communication are experiencing a revolution with the advent of open access, with libraries adopting a lead role in self-archiving their institutional outputs in digital repositories. In addition, researchers are taking advantage of the computational power at their disposal, conducting research in innovative and collaborative ways that use and produce vast amounts of data. Such research-generated data underpins intellectual ideas, which in turn propagates new methodologies, analysis and ultimately knowledge. It is crucial that we preserve such mechanisms and output for future generations. With the experience gained from traditional cataloguing, indexing and organisational skills coupled to those acquired in developing, establishing and maintaining institutional repositories, the time is ripe for academic librarians to explore a new role. Research data need to be looked after from the moment of creation through their life cycle. The concept of data curation refers to activities like digital preservation but also those geared towards adding value to the data so that they can be discovered and reused. This article introduces e-Research and the likely function of academic libraries in this domain. After this, data curation is described and several initiatives of interest for information professionals in this field are presented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
