Automated and accurate detection of power quality (PQ) events is important from the point of view of safety as well as maintaining the reliability of the power transmission and distribution network. However, detection of multiple PQ events in a noisy environment is challenging task. Another important issue is the choice of meaningful features that can directly influence the accuracy of PQ detection. Considering these two aforesaid facts, this paper presents a novel framework for automated classification of PQ signals in a noisy environment employing cross Stockwell Transform (XST). The XST proposed in this paper has better noise suppression capability compared to conventional Stockwell Transform. Here, XST was used to convert 1D PQ signals to 2D time–frequency (T–F) images. To improve the accuracy of PQ detection, an automated feature extraction method employing deep learning is implemented in this work. The noise free T–F images obtained using XST were fed as inputs to several pre-trained convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for deep feature extraction. Transfer learning technique was implemented to reduce the computational cost. The extracted deep features were further undergone selection using one-way analysis of variance test followed by false discovery rate correction. The statistically significant deep features were subsequently fed to three benchmark machine learning classifiers for classification of PQ signals. In addition, tests were also carried out on real-life PQ signals to verify the practicability of the proposed framework. Investigations revealed that the proposed method returned mean accuracy of 99.72% and 96.45% for classification of simulated and real-life PQ signals, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Increasing the integration of distributed generation (DG) into distribution networks provides many technological benefits, including improving system security, performance, and reliability. The intermittent nature of renewable DGs poses certain difficulties for this integration. Moreover, the large integration of DGs will lead to islanding conditions in the power system. In the islanded operation, the microgrid keeps power injection into the network. The islanding event can occur intentionally or unintentionally; the former is controllable and required for maintaining the main utility, whereas the latter is uncontrollable, caused by regular faults. However, islanding detection is important for ensuring the system's reliability and operation. Hence, a comprehensive review is made in this paper to examine different methods for islanding detection in the power system. Unlike the previous review papers, the proposed review paper focused on different types of islanding detection methods, including active, reactive, hybrid active–passive methods, deep learning and machine learning techniques. All of these methods have their advantage and disadvantages. Moreover, the complexities in power systems increased with the increasing penetration of DGs. Thus, the rapid islanding detection technique is necessary for improving the system's performance. This review has provided some recent literature for signal processing, which includes the recent feature selection and advance finding for islanding occurrences. From the comparative analysis, it is found that the Non-detection zone (NDZ) is more in the passive method is higher than in the active and hybrid active–passive methods. At the same time, the remote islanding detection methods are NDZ free, but it has computational complexities when compared with existing methods. Moreover, the DL based methods have higher computational time due to large training and testing data. It is found that hybrid methods are more feasible for providing accurate results in islanding detection. Lithium-ion batteries are becoming more popular due to their superior performance like high power density, long lifespan, broad operating range of temperatures, quick charging capabilities, and low self-discharge. The implementation of a Battery Management System (BMS) is crucial in order to guarantee the secure and optimal functioning of electric vehicle batteries. BMS monitors, controls, and maintains the health and performance of rechargeable batteries by monitoring the State of Charge (SoC), State of Health (SoH), and State of Temperature (SoT). SoC quantifies the amount of energy stored in a battery at a certain moment, and it is employed to approximate the remaining distance that may be covered. SoH describe the overall health or state of a rechargeable battery. It reveals how well a battery performs in comparison to its original state. SoT estimation keeps the battery temperature within a safe range, allowing it to reach a higher age and safety, which is critical for battery reliability. In this paper SoC, SoH, SoT estimation models for a lithium-ion battery have been developed using an improved EP-based R110-BLSTM approach. The Emperor Penguin based Residual Network-110 incorporated Bidirectional Long-Short Term Memory (EP-based R110-BLSTM) is ideal for estimating SoC, SoH, and SoT and features great accuracy, a quick estimation speed, and strong generalization capabilities. However, Extreme Learning Machine performance is heavily reliant on proper feature extraction. In order to enhance estimate performance by extracting the best features, Simulated-Annealing-based Golden Eagle optimization is utilized. Electric vehicle drive cycles are used to test the model's resilience to temperature changes. MATLAB 2018b software is used in the execution of this research. The results demonstrate that the proposed model performs better in terms of accuracy and has lower SoC, SoH, and SoT error rates than existing models. Forecasting has always been the backbone of planning studies in the power system. With the advent of the restructured power system and also the integration of renewable energy sources, it has become more challenging. Accurate load forecasting leads to a reduction in supply–demand mismatch, whereas solar insolation/wind speed forecasting improves generation side planning. With the rapid growth in computer-based intelligence, self-learning mechanisms together with continuously growing volume of the dataset and affordable cost-effective data storage options, deep learning performance keeps getting better and has made a huge impact to solve the complex problems associated with the power system network. In this paper, we propose a classical long short-term memory neural network model for a combined day-ahead load and solar insolation forecasting of residential consumers equipped with rooftop PV based on weather classification. The effectiveness of the proposed model based on mean absolute error, mean bias error and coefficient of correlation (R-Squared) is compared with that of the standard artificial neural network and convolutional neural network models. Measurement and recognition of partial discharge (PD) is a fundamental tool for condition monitoring and fault diagnosis of high-voltage (HV) transformers. Several machine learning (ML) approaches were used for PD classification in the past decades. However, ML techniques mainly depend upon feature extraction by human experts to train the model and clean PD data quantified in the HV laboratory. Still, in real-time circumstances, PD may occur in single and multiple PD patterns along with external interference. The deep convolution neural network (CNN) method is currently applicable for image classification. However, the challenging issue in the traditional CNN approaches is fine-tuning the hyperparameters with specific architecture. Thus, enhanced particle swarm optimization for hyperparameters tuning will reduce experts' manual trial and error method. Simultaneously, random minority and majority sampling approaches can overwhelm an imbalanced dataset problem. Results obtained by the ZFNet architecture compared with various pre-trained models like VGG19, AlexNet, GoogleNet, and ResNet, whose hyperparameters were determined manually. The result shows that the proposed model achieves a 7.6% higher recognition rate than various deep learning approaches under a noisy environment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
