Each unit is fitted with two internal mounting posts at opposing corners for direct printed circuit board fixing. The flanged lids enable the unit to be secured to a suitable surface and give an improved level of security by preventing access to the interior without demounting the enclosure.

Electronics company Semtech Corp.'s latest family of transient voltage suppressors (TVS) for electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection on mobile phones and other portable electronic designs is the μ Clamp 0501H diode in a two-lead SOD-523 package. It is designed to offer ESD protection in excess of ± 8kV contact, ± 15kV air per IEC61000-4-2 level four requirements, needed for mobile phone designs. The device is intended to be used by being placed in parallel with the protected circuit becoming a low impedance path during an ESD event.

Blue Chip Technology Inc., has brought out an industrial rack-mount computer casing. Dubbed the Ultima, the casing has a stainless steel finish and improved capacity for drive expansion and Raid enabled storage. It has three 5.25 in. external drive bays, one floppy, two front panel USB ports and two additional internal hard drive bays. An improved airflow channel system for the CPU, has also been provided.

Electronics company Rolec's die-cast aluminium aluCASE range has been extended with models which have hinged lids. The hinge assemblies are fully integrated into the design of the enclosure and not bolted onto the side walls. The aluCASE series is available in fourteen individual sizes and is powder painted grey RAL 7040. All sizes can be specified with hinged has. These IP 67 aluminium enclosures have been designed for harsh environments, and have captured rust free stainless steel fixing screws. All models include an earth point and threaded screw pillars in tile fid and base for mounting printed circuit boards, chassis, displays and DIN-rails.

Lattice Semiconductor Corp. has announced the availability of off-the-shelf, lead-free package options for a range of its standard product families. The firm is also developing a portfolio of halogen-free package options, which will become available later in 2004. Lead-free device option covers: IspXPGA non-volatile, reprogrammable Field Programmable Logic Arrays family, ORCA Field Programmable System Chips, ispMACH 4000Z CPLD family, ispXPL 5000MX family, ispGAL 22V10AV (3.3V GAL) and ispPAC.

Semiconductor supplier Chomerics Inc. is offering a low closure force gasket in over 90 different profiles, which the company says is suitable for door seal, faceplate and backplane shielding applications in products such as CD head units, navigation systems and entertainment systems. Called Soft-Shield 3500, it consists of nickel-plated nylon wrapped around a urethane foam core and has a shielding effectiveness of greater than 90dB between 50MHz and 10GHz.

Semiconductor distributor APW Enclosure Systems Inc. has added an 800 mm deep version and additional bays for its IMstart entry level racking family. The 19 inch cabinet is available in heights of 40 and 45U, widths of 600 and 800mm and depths of 600, 800 and 900mm. It is available with either a glass or steel front door. All six sizes in the family are available without side panels for use when suites of individual cabinets are bayed together. The baying kit, supplied as part of the assembly, enables additional bays to be added to populated racks without having to de-mount any equipment already installed.

Serpac's range of enclosures has been updated with the S, SL and A series cases for housing handheld, portable and desktop devices, and consisting of two or four piece designs, assembled with four or six self-tapping screws.
