The article focuses on a study of Salmonella enterica infection in pinnipeds in Chile. The study involved 13 malnourished and stranded South American sea lions or Otaria flavescens discovered from August to December 2010. Peptone water was used to isolate bacteria in the swab samples. It mentions the detection of S. enterica serotypes Newport and Havana in human population in the country.
