With a large proportion of wind farms connected to the power grid, it brings more pressure on the stable operation of power systems in shorter time scales. Efficient and accurate scheduling, operation control and decision making require high time resolution power forecasting algorithms with higher accuracy and real-time performance. In this paper, we innovatively propose a high temporal resolution wind power forecasting method based on a light convolutional architecture—DC_LCNN. The method starts from the source data and novelly designs the dual-channel data input mode to provide different combinations of feature data for the model, thus improving the upper limit of the learning ability of the whole model. The dual-channel convolutional neural network (CNN) structure extracts different spatial and temporal constraints of the input features. The light global maximum pooling method replaces the flat operation combined with the fully connected (FC) forecasting method in the traditional CNN, extracts the most significant features of the global method, and directly performs data downscaling at the same time, which significantly improves the forecasting accuracy and efficiency of the model. In this paper, the experiments are carried out on the 1 s resolution data of the actual wind field, and the single-step forecasting task with 1 s ahead of time and the multi-step forecasting task with 1~10 s ahead of time are executed, respectively. Comparing the experimental results with the classical deep learning models in the current field, the proposed model shows absolute accuracy advantages on both forecasting tasks. Under the premise of ensuring the safe and stable operation of a wind–thermal–storage power system, this paper proposes an optimization model aimed at improving its overall economic efficiency and effectively reducing the peak-to-valley load difference. The model transforms the multi-objective optimization problem to solve a feasible interval of weight coefficients. We introduce a novel fusion model, where a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is melded with a Long Short-Term Memory Network (LSTM) to form the target network structure. Additionally, for datasets with limited samples, we incorporate a Self-Attention Mechanism (SAM) into the Model-Agnostic Meta-Learning (MAML). Ultimately, we build an MAML-SAM-CNN-LSTM network model to solve the interval of weight coefficients. An arithmetic validation of a modified IEEE 30-node system demonstrates that the MAML-SAM-CNN-LSTM network proposed in this paper can adeptly solve the feasible intervals of weight coefficients in the optimization model of the wind-thermal storage system. This is achieved under the constraints of the specified wind-thermal storage power system operation indexes. The evaluation indexes of the network model, including its accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score, all exceed 98.72%, 98.57%, 98.30%, and 98.57%, respectively. This denotes a superior performance compared to the other three network models, offering an effective reference for optimizing decision-making and facilitating the enhanced realization of multi-objective, on-demand scheduling in the wind-thermal storage power system. To enhance the accuracy of theft detection for electricity consumers, this paper introduces a novel strategy based on the fusion of the dual-time feature and deep learning methods. Initially, considering electricity-consumption features at dual temporal scales, the paper employs temporal convolutional networks (TCN) with a long short-term memory (LSTM) multi-level feature extraction module (LSTM-TCN) and deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) to parallelly extract features at these scales. Subsequently, the extracted features are coupled and input into a fully connected (FC) layer for classification, enabling the precise detection of theft users. To validate the method's effectiveness, real electricity-consumption data from the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) is used for testing. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves a remarkable detection accuracy of up to 94.7% during testing, showcasing excellent performance across various evaluation metrics. Specifically, it attained values of 0.932, 0.964, 0.948, and 0.986 for precision, recall, F1 score, and AUC, respectively. Additionally, the paper conducts a comparative analysis with mainstream theft identification approaches. In the comparison of training processes, the proposed method exhibits significant advantages in terms of identification accuracy and fitting degree. Photovoltaic (PV) fault detection is crucial because undetected PV faults can lead to significant energy losses, with some cases experiencing losses of up to 10%. The efficiency of PV systems depends upon the reliable detection and diagnosis of faults. The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques has been a growing trend in addressing these issues. The goal of this systematic review is to offer a comprehensive overview of the recent advancements in AI-based methodologies for PV fault detection, consolidating the key findings from 31 research papers. An initial pool of 142 papers were identified, from which 31 were selected for in-depth review following the PRISMA guidelines. The title, objective, methods, and findings of each paper were analyzed, with a focus on machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) approaches. ML and DL are particularly suitable for PV fault detection because of their capacity to process and analyze large amounts of data to identify complex patterns and anomalies. This study identified several AI techniques used for fault detection in PV systems, ranging from classical ML methods like k-nearest neighbor (KNN) and random forest to more advanced deep learning models such as Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). Quantum circuits and infrared imagery were also explored as potential solutions. The analysis found that DL models, in general, outperformed traditional ML models in accuracy and efficiency. This study shows that AI methodologies have evolved and been increasingly applied in PV fault detection. The integration of AI in PV fault detection offers high accuracy and effectiveness. The electricity market is constantly evolving, being driven by factors such as market liberalization, the increasing use of renewable energy sources (RESs), and various economic and political influences. These dynamics make it challenging to predict wholesale electricity prices. Accurate short-term forecasting is crucial to maintaining system balance and addressing anomalies such as negative prices and deviations from predictions. This paper investigates short-term electricity price forecasting using historical time series data and employs advanced deep learning algorithms. First, four deep learning models are implemented and proposed, which are a convolutional neural network (CNN) with an integrated attention mechanism, a hybrid CNN followed by a gated recurrent unit model (CNN-GRU) with an attention mechanism, and two ensemble learning models, which are a soft voting ensemble and a stacking ensemble model. Also, the optimized version of a transformer model, the Multi-Head Attention model, is introduced. Finally, the perceptron model is used as a benchmark for comparison. Our results show excellent prediction accuracy, particularly in the hybrid CNN-GRU model with attention, thereby achieving a mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) of 6.333%. The soft voting ensemble model and the Multi-Head Attention model also performed well, with MAPEs of 6.125% and 6.889%, respectively. These findings are significant, as previous studies have not shown high performance with transformer models and attention mechanisms. This research delineates a pivotal advancement in the domain of sustainable energy systems, with a focused emphasis on the integration of renewable energy sources—predominantly wind and solar power—into the hydrogen production paradigm. At the core of this scientific endeavor is the formulation and implementation of a deep-learning-based framework for short-term localized weather forecasting, specifically designed to enhance the efficiency of hydrogen production derived from renewable energy sources. The study presents a comprehensive evaluation of the efficacy of fully connected neural networks (FCNs) and convolutional neural networks (CNNs) within the realm of deep learning, aimed at refining the accuracy of renewable energy forecasts. These methodologies have demonstrated remarkable proficiency in navigating the inherent complexities and variabilities associated with renewable energy systems, thereby significantly improving the reliability and precision of predictions pertaining to energy output. The cornerstone of this investigation is the deployment of an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven weather forecasting system, which meticulously analyzes data procured from 25 distinct weather monitoring stations across Latvia. This system is specifically tailored to deliver short-term (1 h ahead) forecasts, employing a comprehensive sensor fusion approach to accurately predicting wind and solar power outputs. Deep learning (DL) networks are a popular choice for short-term load forecasting (STLF) in the residential sector. Hybrid DL methodologies based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and long short-term memory networks (LSTMs) have a higher forecasting accuracy than conventional statistical STLF techniques for different types of single-household load series. However, existing load forecasting methodologies are often inefficient when a high load demand persists for a few hours in a day. Peak load consumption is explicitly depicted as a tail in the probability distribution function (PDF) of the load series. Due to the diverse and uncertain nature of peak load demands, DL methodologies have difficulty maintaining consistent forecasting results, particularly when the PDF of the load series has a longer tail. This paper proposes a multihousehold load forecasting strategy based on the collective moment measure (CMM) (which is obtained from the PDF of the load series), data augmentation, and a CNN. Each load series was compared and ordered through CMM indexing, which helped maintain a minimum or constant shifting variance in the dataset inputted to the CNN. Data augmentation was used to enlarge the input dataset and solve the existing data requirement issues of the CNN. With the ordered load series and data augmentation strategy, the simulation results demonstrated a significant improvement in the performance of both single-household and multihousehold load forecasting. The proposed method predicts day-ahead multihousehold loads simultaneously and compares the results based on a single household. The forecasting performance of the proposed method for six different household groups with 10, 20, 30, 50, 80, and 100 household load series was evaluated and compared with those of existing methodologies. The mean absolute percentage error of the prediction results for each multihousehold load series could be improved by more than 3%. A large proportion of photovoltaic (PV) power generation is connected to the power grid, and its volatility and stochasticity have significant impacts on the power system. Accurate PV power forecasting is of great significance in optimizing the safe operation of the power grid and power market transactions. In this paper, a novel dual-channel PV power forecasting method based on a temporal convolutional network (TCN) is proposed. The method deeply integrates the PV station feature data with the model computing mechanism through the dual-channel model architecture; utilizes the combination of multihead attention (MHA) and TCN to extract the multidimensional spatio-temporal features between other meteorological variables and the PV power; and utilizes a single TCN to fully extract the temporal constraints of the power sequence elements. The weighted fusion of the dual-channel feature data ultimately yields the ideal forecasting results. The experimental data in this study are from a 26.52 kW PV power plant in central Australia. The experiments were carried out over seven different input window widths, and the two models that currently show superior performance within the field of PV power forecasting: the convolutional neural network (CNN), and the convolutional neural network combined with a long and short-term memory network (CNN_LSTM), are used as the baseline models. The experimental results show that the proposed model and the baseline models both obtained the best forecasting performance over a 1-day input window width, while the proposed model exhibited superior forecasting performance compared to the baseline model. With the steady increase in the use of renewable energy sources in the energy sector, new challenges arise, especially the unpredictability of these energy sources. This uncertainty complicates the management, planning, and development of energy systems. An effective solution to these challenges is short-term forecasting of the output of photovoltaic power plants. In this paper, a novel method for short-term production prediction was explored which involves continuous photography of the sky above the photovoltaic power plant. By analyzing a series of sky images, patterns can be identified to help predict future photovoltaic power generation. A hybrid model that integrates both a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) for short-term production forecasting was developed and tested. This model effectively detects spatial and temporal patterns from images and power output data, displaying considerable prediction accuracy. In particular, a 74% correlation was found between the model's predictions and actual future production values, demonstrating the model's efficiency. The results of this paper suggest that the hybrid CNN-LSTM model offers an improvement in prediction accuracy and practicality compared to traditional forecasting methods. In nuclear power plants, the loss-of-coolant accident (LOCA) stands out as the most prevalent and consequential incident. Accurate breach size diagnosis is crucial for the mitigation of LOCAs, and identifying the cause of an accident can prevent catastrophic consequences. Traditional methods mostly focus on combining model algorithms and utilize intricate composite model neural network architectures. However, it is crucial to investigate whether greater complexity necessarily leads to better performance. In addition, the consideration of the impact of dataset construction and data preprocessing on model performance is also needed for model building. This paper proposes a framework named DeepLOCA-Lattice to experiment with different preprocessing approaches to fundamental deep learning models for a comprehensive analysis of the diagnosis of LOCA breach size. The DeepLOCA-Lattice involves data preprocessing via the lattice algorithm and equal-interval partitioning and deep-learning-based models, including the multi-layer perceptron (MLP), recurrent neural networks (RNNs), convolutional neural networks (CNNs), and the transformer model in LOCA breach size diagnosis. After conducting rigorous ablation experiments, we have discovered that even rudimentary foundational models can achieve accuracy rates that exceed 90%. This is a significant improvement when compared to the previous models, which yield an accuracy rate of lower than 50%. The results interestingly demonstrate the superior performance and efficacy of the fundamental deep learning model, with an effective dataset construction approach. It elucidates the presence of a complex interplay among diagnostic scales, sliding window size, and sliding stride. Furthermore, our investigation reveals that the model attains its highest accuracy within the discussed range when utilizing a smaller sliding stride size and a longer sliding window length. In this paper, an innovative approach for the fast estimation of the mutual inductance between transmitting and receiving coils for Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer Systems (DWPTSs) is implemented. To this end, a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is used; an image representing the geometry of two coils that are partially misaligned is the input of the CNN, while the output is the corresponding inductance value. Finite Element Analyses are used for the computation of the inductance values needed for CNN training. This way, thanks to a fast and accurate inductance estimated by the CNN, it is possible to properly manage the power converter devoted to charge the battery, avoiding the wind up of its controller when it attempts to transfer power in poor coupling conditions. Wind turbine energy generators operate in a variety of environments and often under harsh operational conditions, which can result in the mechanical failure of wind turbines. In order to ensure the efficient operation of wind turbines, the detection of any abnormality in the mechanics is particularly important. In this paper, a method for detecting abnormalities in the bearings of wind turbine energy generators, based on the cascade deep learning model, is proposed. First, data on the mechanics of wind turbine generators were collected, and the correlation between the data was studied in order to select the parameters related to the bearing temperature. Then, the logical relationship between the observation parameters and the target parameters was established based on a one-dimensional convolutional neural network (CNN) and a long short-term memory (LSTM) network, and the difference between the predicted temperature and the actual temperature was assessed using the root mean square error evaluation model. Finally, a numerical example was used to verify the operational data from a wind farm unit in northwest China. The results show that the CNN-LSTM model proposed in this paper can detect abnormalities earlier in the state of the main bearing than the LSTM model, and the CNN-LSTM model can detect abnormalities in the main bearing that the LSTM network cannot find. In recent years, lithium-ion batteries have gained significant attention due to their crucial role in various applications, such as electric vehicles and renewable energy storage. Accurate prediction of the remaining useful life (RUL) of these batteries is essential for optimizing their performance and ensuring reliable operation. In this paper, we propose a novel methodology for RUL prediction using an individual control chart (ICC) to identify and remove degraded data, a convolutional neural network (CNN) to smooth the noise of sensor data and long short-term memory (LSTM) networks to effectively capture both spatial and temporal dependencies within battery data, enabling accurate RUL estimation. We evaluate our proposed model using a comprehensive dataset, and experimental results demonstrate its superior performance compared to existing methods. The thickness of the indium tin oxide (ITO) layer is a critical parameter affecting the performance of solar cells. Traditional measurement methods require sample collection, leading to manufacturing interruptions and potential quality issues. In this paper, we propose a real-time, non-contact approach using deep learning and optical interference phenomena to estimate the thickness of ITO layers in solar cells. We develop a convolutional neural network (CNN) model that processes microscopic images of solar cells and predicts the ITO layer thickness. In addition, mean absolute error (MAE) and mean squared error (MSE) loss functions are combined to train the model. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach in accurately estimating the ITO layer thickness. The integration of computer vision and deep learning techniques provides a valuable tool for non-destructive testing and quality control in the manufacturing of solar cells. The loss of the model after training is reduced to 0.83, and the slope of the test value in the scatter plot with the true value of the ellipsometer is approximately equal to 1, indicating the high reliability of the model. Waste disposal remains a challenge due to land availability, and environmental and health issues related to the main disposal method, landfilling. Combining computer vision (machine learning) and robotics to sort waste is a cost-effective solution for landfilling activities limitation. The objective of this study was to combine transfer and ensemble learning to process collected waste images and classify landfill waste into nine classes. Pretrained CNN models (Inception–ResNet-v2, EfficientNetb3, and DenseNet201) were used as base models to develop the ensemble network, and three other single CNN models (Models 1, 2, and 3). The single network performances were compared to the ensemble model. The waste dataset, initially grouped in two classes, was obtained from Kaggle, and reorganized into nine classes. Classes with a low number of data were improved by downloading additional images from Google search. The Ensemble Model showed the highest prediction precision (90%) compared to the precision of Models 1, 2, and 3, 86%, 87%, and 88%, respectively. All models had difficulties predicting overlapping classes, such as glass and plastics, and wood and paper/cardboard. The environmental costs for the Ensemble network, and Models 2 and 3, approximately 15 g CO2 equivalent per training, were lower than the 19.23 g CO2 equivalent per training for Model 1. In this paper, a microscopic oil displacement visualization experiment based on the glass etching model to simulate the tight oil reservoir of underground rocks is carried out. At present, water flooding technology is widely used in the development of oil and gas fields, and the remaining oil content is still very high after water flooding. It is the key to improving oil recovery to identify and study the remaining oil form distribution after water flooding. The experiment result shows there are five types of residual oil after water flooding: columnar residual oil, membranous residual oil, oil droplet residual oil, blind terminal residual oil and cluster residual oil. A convolution neural network is suitable for complex image characteristics with good robustness. In recent years, it has made a breakthrough in a set of small and efficient neural networks with SqueezeNet, Google Inception and the flattened network method put forward. In order to solve the problems of low automation, low efficiency and high error rate in the traditional remaining oil form recognition algorithm after water flooding in tight oil reservoirs, an image recognition algorithm based on the MobileNets convolutional neural network model was proposed in this paper to achieve accurate recognition of the remaining oil form. Based on traditional image processing methods which, respectively, extracted the whole picture of the different types of remaining oil in the image block, it uses the MobileNets network structure to classify different types of image block and realizes the layered depth convolution neural network system. The experiment result shows that the model can accurately identify the remaining oil forms, and the overall recognition accuracy is up to 83.8% after the convergence of the network model, which infinitely identifies the remaining oil forms in the morphological library, proving the strong generalization and robustness of the model. Dedicated equipment, which is widely used in many different types of vehicles, is the core system that determines the combat capability of special vehicles. Therefore, assuring the normal operation of dedicated equipment is crucial. With the increase in battlefield complexity, the demand for equipment functions is increasing, and the complexity of dedicated equipment is also increasing. To solve the problem of fault diagnosis of dedicated equipment, a fault diagnosis algorithm based on CNN-LSTM was proposed in this paper. CNN and LSTM are used in the model adopted by the algorithm to extract spatial and temporal features from the data. CBAM is used to enhance the model's accuracy in identifying faults for dedicated equipment. Data on dedicated equipment faults were obtained from a hardware-in-loop simulation platform to verify the model. The installed wind power capacity is growing worldwide. Remote condition monitoring of wind turbines is employed to achieve higher up-times and lower maintenance costs. Machine learning approaches can be used for detecting developing faults in wind turbines in their earlier occurrence. However, training fault detection models may require large amounts of past and present data. These data are often not available or not representative of the current operation behaviour. These data can be acquired with supervisory control and data acquisition systems. Note also that newly commissioned wind farms lack data from previous operation, whilst older installations may also lack representative working condition data as a result of control software updates or component replacements. After such events, a turbine's operation behaviour can change significantly so its data are no longer representative of its current behaviour. Therefore, this paper shows that cross–turbine transfer learning can improve the accuracy of fault detection models in turbines with scarce data from supervisory control and data acquisition systems. In particular, it highlights that combining the knowledge from turbines with scarce data and turbines with plentiful data enables earlier detection of faults than prior art methods. The rolling bearing is a critical part of rotating machinery and its condition determines the performance of industrial equipment; it is necessary to detect rolling bearing faults as early as possible. The traditional methods of fault diagnosis are not efficient and are time-consuming. With the help of deep learning, the convolution neural network (CNN) plays a huge role in the data-driven methods of bearing fault diagnosis. However, the vibration signal is non-stationary, contains high noise, and is one-dimensional, which is difficult to analyze directly by the CNN model. Considering the multi-domain learning as an advantage of deep learning, this paper proposes a novel rolling bearing fault diagnosis approach using an improved one-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) convolution neural network (CNN) of two-domain information learning. The constructed fault diagnosis model combining 1D and 2D CNN extracts the fault features from the two-domain information of bearing fault samples. The padding and dropout technology are utilized to fully extract features from the raw data and reduce over-fitting. To prove the validity of the proposed method, this paper performs two tests with two bearing datasets, the Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) bearing dataset and the Dalian University of Technology (DUT) vibration laboratory dataset. The experimental results show that our proposed method achieves high recognition accuracy of rolling bearing fault states via two-domain learning of monitoring data, and there is no manual experience necessary. Predicting energy demand in adverse scenarios, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, is critical to ensure the supply of electricity and the operation of essential services in metropolitan regions. In this paper, we propose a deep learning model to predict the demand for the next day using the "IEEE DataPort Competition Day-Ahead Electricity Demand Forecasting: Post-COVID Paradigm" database. The best model uses hybrid deep neural network architecture (convolutional network–recurrent network) to extract spatial-temporal features from the input data. A preliminary analysis of the input data was performed, excluding anomalous variables. A sliding window was applied for importing the data into the network input. The input data was normalized, using a higher weight for the demand variable. The proposed model's performance was better than the models that stood out in the competition, with a mean absolute error of 2361.84 kW. The high similarity between the actual demand curve and the predicted demand curve evidences the efficiency of the application of deep networks compared with the classical methods applied by other authors. Accurately obtaining the working status of the sucker rod pumping wells is a challenging problem for oil production. Sensors at the polished rod collect working data to form surface dynamometer cards for fault diagnosis. A prevalent method for recognizing these cards is the convolutional neural network (CNN). However, this approach has two problems: an unbalanced dataset due to varying fault frequencies and similar dynamometer card shapes that complicate recognition. This leads to a low accuracy of fault diagnosis in practice, which is unsatisfactory. Therefore, this paper proposes a hybrid approach of the deep learning method and rule-based method for fault diagnosis of sucker rod pumping wells. Specifically, when the CNN model alone fails to achieve satisfactory accuracy in the working status, historical monitoring data of the relevant wells can be collected, and expert rules can assist CNN to improve diagnostic accuracy. By analyzing time series data of factors such as the maximum and minimum loads, the area of the dynamometer card, and the load difference, a knowledgebase of expert rules can be created. When performing fault diagnosis, both the dynamometer cards and related time series data are used as inputs. The dynamometer cards are used for the CNN model to diagnose, and the related time series data are used for expert rules to diagnose. The diagnostic results and the confidence levels of the two methods are obtained and compared. When the two diagnostic results conflict, the one with higher confidence is preserved. Out of the 2066 wells and 7 fault statuses analyzed in field applications, the hybrid approach demonstrated a 21.25% increase in fault diagnosis accuracy compared with using only the CNN model. Workload prediction is essential in cloud data centers (CDCs) for establishing scalability and resource elasticity. However, the workload prediction accuracy in the cloud data center could be better due to noise, redundancy, and low performance for workload prediction. This paper designs a hierarchical tree-based deep convolutional neural network (T-CNN) model with sheep flock optimization (SFO) to enhance CDCs' power efficiency and workload prediction. The kernel method is used to preprocess historical information from the CDCs. Additionally, T-CNN model weight parameters are optimized using SFO. The suggested TCNN-SFO technology has successfully reduced excessive power consumption while correctly forecasting the incoming demand. Further, the proposed model is assessed using two benchmark datasets: Saskatchewan HTTP traces and NASA. The developed model is executed in a Java tool. Therefore, associated with existing methods, the developed technique has achieved higher accuracy of 20.75%, 19.06%, 29.09%, 23.8%, and 20.5%, as well as lower energy consumption of 20.84%, 18.03%, 28.64%, 30.72%, and 33.74% when validating the Saskatchewan HTTP traces dataset. Electric vehicles (EVs) are spreading fast as they promise to provide better performance and comfort, but above all, to help face climate change. Despite their success, their cost is still a challenge. Lithium-ion batteries are one of the most expensive EV components, and have become the standard for energy storage in various applications. Precisely estimating the remaining useful life (RUL) of battery packs can encourage their reuse and thus help to reduce the cost of EVs and improve sustainability. A correct RUL estimation can be used to quantify the residual market value of the battery pack. The customer can then decide to sell the battery when it still has a value, i.e., before it exceeds the end of life of the target application, so it can still be reused in a second domain without compromising safety and reliability. This paper proposes and compares two deep learning approaches to estimate the RUL of Li-ion batteries: LSTM and autoencoders vs. CNN and autoencoders. The autoencoders are used to extract useful features, while the subsequent network is then used to estimate the RUL. Compared to what has been proposed so far in the literature, we employ measures to ensure the method's applicability in the actual deployed application. Such measures include (1) avoiding using non-measurable variables as input, (2) employing appropriate datasets with wide variability and different conditions, and (3) predicting the remaining ampere-hours instead of the number of cycles. Building automation and the advancement of sustainability and safety in internal spaces benefit significantly from occupancy sensing. While particular traditional Machine Learning (ML) methods have succeeded at identifying occupancy patterns for specific datasets, achieving substantial performance in other datasets is still challenging. This paper proposes an occupancy detection method using non-intrusive ambient data and a Deep Learning (DL) model. An environmental sensing board was used to gather temperature, humidity, pressure, light level, motion, sound, and Carbon Dioxide (CO 2 ) data. The detection approach was deployed on an edge device to enable low-cost computing while increasing data security. The system was set up at a university office, which functioned as the primary case study testing location. We analyzed two Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) models to confirm the optimum alternative for edge deployment. A 2D-CNN technique was used for one day to identify occupancy in real-time. There is a large amount of drilling core data in the Mackay River oil sands block in Canada, and the accurate identification of facies from the cores is important and necessary for the understanding of the subsurface reservoir. The traditional recognition method of facies from cores is by human work and is very time consuming. Furthermore, the results are different according to different geologists because of the subjective judgment criterion. An efficient and objective method is important to solve the above problem. In this paper, the deep learning image-recognition algorithm is used to automatically and intelligently recognize the facies type from the core image. Through a series of high-reliability preprocessing operations, such as cropping, segmentation, rotation transformation, and noise removal of the original core image, that have been manually identified, the key feature information in the images is extracted based on the ResNet50 convolutional neural network. On the dataset of about 200 core images from 13 facies, an intelligent identification system of facies from core images is constructed, which realizes automatic facies identification from core images. Comparing this method with traditional convolutional neural networks and support vector machines (SVM), the results show that the recognition accuracy of this model is as high as 91.12%, which is higher than the other two models. It is also shown that for a relatively special dataset, such as core images, it is necessary to rely on their global features in order to classify them, and, with a large similarity between some of the categories, it is extremely difficult to classify them. The selection of a suitable neural network model can have a great impact on the accuracy of recognition results. Then, the recognized facies are input as hard data to construct the three-dimensional facies model, which reveals the complex heterogeneity and distribution of the subsurface reservoir for further exploration and development. Transient stability (TS) and short-term voltage stability (STVS) assessment are of fundamental importance for the operation security of power systems. Both phenomena can be mutually influenced in weak power systems due to the proliferation of power electronic interface devices and the phase-out of conventional heavy machines (e.g., thermal power plants). There is little research on the assessment of both types of stability together, despite the fact that they develop over the same short-term period, and that they can have a major influence on the overall transient performance driven by large electrical disturbances (e.g., short circuits). This work addresses this open research challenge by proposing a methodology for the joint assessment of TS and STVS. The methodology aims at estimating the resulting short-term stability state (STSS) in stable, or unstable conditions, following critical events, such as the synchronism loss of synchronous generators (SG) or the stalling of induction motors (IM). The estimations capture the mechanisms responsible for the degradations of TS and STVS, respectively. The paper overviews the off-line design of the data-driven STSS classification methodology, which supports the design and training of a hybrid deep neural network RCNN (recurrent convolutional neural network). The RCNN can automatically capture spatial and temporal features from the power system through a time series of selected physical variables, which results in a high estimation degree for STSS in real-time applications. The methodology is tested on the New England 39-bus system, where the results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed methodology over other traditional and deep learning-based methodologies. For reference purposes, the numerical tests also illustrate the classification performance in special situations, when the training is performed by exclusively using measurements from generation and motor load buses, which constitute locations where the investigated stability can be observed. Photovoltaic (PV) technology converts solar energy into electrical energy, and the PV industry is an essential renewable energy industry. However, the amount of power generated through PV systems is closely related to unpredictable and uncontrollable environmental factors such as solar radiation, temperature, humidity, cloud cover, and wind speed. Particularly, changes in temperature and solar radiation can substantially affect power generation, causing a sudden surplus or reduction in the power output. Nevertheless, accurately predicting the energy produced by PV power generation systems is crucial. This paper proposes a hybrid model comprising a convolutional neural network (CNN) and long short-term memory (LSTM) for stable power generation forecasting. The CNN classifies weather conditions, while the LSTM learns power generation patterns based on the weather conditions. The proposed model was trained and tested using the PV power output data from a power plant in Busan, Korea. Quantitative and qualitative evaluations were performed to verify the performance of the model. The proposed model achieved a mean absolute percentage error of 4.58 on a sunny day and 7.06 on a cloudy day in the quantitative evaluation. The experimental results suggest that precise power generation forecasting is possible using the proposed model according to instantaneous changes in power generation patterns. Forecasting return and profit is a primary challenge for financial practitioners and an even more critical issue when it comes to forecasting energy market returns. This research attempts to propose an effective method to predict the Brent Crude Oil return, which results in remarkable performance compared with the well-known models in the return prediction. The proposed hybrid model is based on long short-term memory (LSTM) and convolutional neural network (CNN) networks where the autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) and generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity (GARCH) outputs are used as features, along with return lags, price, and macroeconomic variables to train the models, resulting in significant improvement in the model's performance. According to the obtained results, our proposed model performs better than other models, including artificial neural network (ANN), principal component analysis (PCA)-ANN, LSTM, and CNN. We show the efficiency of our proposed model by testing it with a simple trading strategy, indicating that the cumulative profit obtained from trading with the prediction results of the proposed 2D CNN-LSTM model is higher than those of the other models presented in this research. In the second part of this study, we consider the spread of COVID-19 and its impact on the financial markets to present a precise LSTM model that can reflect the impact of this disease on the Brent Crude Oil return. This paper uses the significance test and correlation measures to show the similarity between the series of Brent Crude Oil during the SARS and the COVID-19 pandemics, after which the data during the SARS period are used along with the data during COVID-19 to train the LSTM. Electricity price forecasts have become a fundamental factor affecting the decision-making of all market participants. Extreme price volatility has forced market participants to hedge against volume risks and price movements. Hence, getting an accurate price forecast from a few hours to a few days ahead is very important and very challenging due to various factors. This paper proposes an integrated long-term recurrent convolutional network (ILRCN) model to predict electricity prices considering the majority of contributing attributes to the market price as input. The proposed ILRCN model combines the functionalities of a convolutional neural network and long short-term memory (LSTM) algorithm along with the proposed novel conditional error correction term. The combined ILRCN model can identify the linear and nonlinear behavior within the input data. ERCOT wholesale market price data along with load profile, temperature, and other factors for the Houston region have been used to illustrate the proposed model. The performance of the proposed ILRCN electricity price forecasting model is verified using performance/evaluation metrics like mean absolute error and accuracy. Case studies reveal that the proposed ILRCN model shows the highest accuracy and efficiency in electricity price forecasting as compared to the support vector machine (SVM) model, fully connected neural network model, LSTM model, and the traditional LRCN model without the conditional error correction stage. Short-term load forecasting (STLF) has a significant role in reliable operation and efficient scheduling of power systems. However, it is still a major challenge to accurately predict power load due to social and natural factors, such as temperature, humidity, holidays and weekends, etc. Therefore, it is very important for the efficient feature selection and extraction of input data to improve the accuracy of STLF. In this paper, a novel hybrid model based on empirical mode decomposition (EMD), a one-dimensional convolutional neural network (1D-CNN), a temporal convolutional network (TCN), a self-attention mechanism (SAM), and a long short-term memory network (LSTM) is proposed to fully decompose the input data and mine the in-depth features to improve the accuracy of load forecasting. Firstly, the original load sequence was decomposed into a number of sub-series by the EMD, and the Pearson correlation coefficient method (PCC) was applied for analyzing the correlation between the sub-series with the original load data. Secondly, to achieve the relationships between load series and external factors during an hour scale and the correlations among these data points, a strategy based on the 1D-CNN and TCN is proposed to comprehensively refine the feature extraction. The SAM was introduced to further enhance the key feature information. Finally, the feature matrix was fed into the long short-term memory (LSTM) for STLF. According to experimental results employing the North American New England Control Area (ISO-NE-CA) dataset, the proposed model is more accurate than 1D-CNN, LSTM, TCN, 1D-CNN–LSTM, and TCN–LSTM models. Seismic data are widely used in oil, gas, and other kinds of mineral exploration and development. However, due to low artificial interpretation accuracy and small sample sizes, seismic data may not meet the needs of convolutional neural network training. There are major differences between optical image and seismic data, making it difficult for a model to learn seismic data characteristics. Therefore, a style transfer network is necessary to make the styles of optical image and seismic data more similar. Since the stylization effect of a seismic section is similar to that of most art styles, based on an in-depth study of image style transfer, this paper compared the effects of various style transfer models, and selected a Laplacian pyramid network to carry out a study of seismic section stylization. It transmits low-resolution global style patterns through a drafting network, revises high-resolution local details through correction networks, and aggregates all pyramid layers to output final stylized images of seismic profiles. Experiments show that this method can effectively convey the whole style pattern without losing the original image content. The identification of fault types and their locations is crucial for power system protection/operation when a fault occurs in the lines. In general, this involves a human-in-the-loop analysis to capture the transient voltage and current signals using a common format for transient data exchange for power systems (COMTRADE) file. Then, protection engineers can identify the fault types and the line locations after the incident. This paper proposes intelligent and novel methods of faulty line and location detection based on convolutional neural networks in the power system. The three-phase fault information contained in the COMTRADE file is converted to an image file and extracted adaptively by the proposed CNN, which is trained by a large number of images under various kinds of fault conditions and factors. A 500 kV power system is simulated to generate different types of electromagnetic fault transients. Lithium-ion batteries are widely used as effective energy storage and have become the main component of power supply systems. Accurate battery state prediction is key to ensuring reliability and has significant guidance for optimizing the performance of battery power systems and replacement. Due to the complex and dynamic operations of lithium-ion batteries, the state parameters change with either the working condition or the aging process. The accuracy of online state prediction is difficult to improve, which is an urgent issue that needs to be solved to ensure a reliable and safe power supply. Currently, with the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI), battery state prediction methods based on data-driven methods have high precision and robustness to improve state prediction accuracy. The demanding characteristics of test time are reduced, and this has become the research focus in the related fields. The vibration signals for offshore wind-turbine high-speed bearings are often contaminated with noises due to complex environmental and structural loads, which increase the difficulty of fault detection and diagnosis. In view of this problem, we propose a fault-diagnosis strategy with good noise immunity in this paper by integrating the two-dimensional convolutional neural network (2DCNN) with random forest (RF), which is supposed to utilize both CNN's automatic feature-extraction capability and the robust discrimination performance of RF classifiers. More specifically, the raw 1D time-domain bearing-vibration signals are transformed into 2D grayscale images at first, which are then fed to the 2DCNN-RF model for fault diagnosis. At the same time, three procedures, including exponential linear unit (ELU), batch normalization (BN), and dropout, are introduced in the model to improve feature-extraction performance and the noise immune capability. In addition, when the 2DCNN feature extractor is trained, the obtained feature vectors are passed to the RF classifier to improve the classification accuracy and generalization ability of the model. The experimental results show that the diagnostic accuracy of the 2DCNN-RF model could achieve 99.548% on the CWRU high-speed bearing dataset, which outperforms the standard CNN and other standard machine-learning and deep-learning algorithms. Furthermore, when the vibration signals are polluted with noises, the 2DCNN-RF model, without retraining the model or any denoising process, still achieves satisfying performance with higher accuracy than the other methods. Short-term load forecasting plays a significant role in the operation of power systems. Recently, deep learning has been generally employed in short-term load forecasting, primarily in the extraction of the characteristics of digital information in a single dimension without taking into account of the impact of external variables, particularly non-digital elements on load characteristics. In this paper, we propose a joint MFF-SAM-GCN to realize short-term load forecasting. First, we utilize a Bi-directional Long Short-Term Memory (Bi-LSTM) network and One-Dimensional Convolutional Neural Network (1D-CNN) in parallel connection to form a multi-feature fusion (MFF) framework, which can extract spatiotemporal correlation features of the load data. In addition, we introduce a Self-Attention Mechanism (SAM) to further enhance the feature extraction capability of the 1D-CNN network. Then with the deployment of a Graph Convolutional Network (GCN), the external non-digital features such as weather, strength, and direction of wind, etc., are extracted. Moreover, the generated weight matrices are incorporated into the load features to enhance feature recognition ability. Finally, we exploit Bayesian Optimization (BO) to find the optimal hyperparameters of the model to further improve the prediction accuracy. The simulation is taken from our proposed model and six benchmark schemes by using the bus load dataset of the Shandong Open Data Network, China. The results show that the RMSE of our proposed MFF-SAM-GCN model is 0.0284, while the SMAPE is 9.453%,the MBE is 0.025, and R-squared is 0.989, which is better than the selected three traditional machine learning methods and the three deep learning models. Electronic components are basic elements that are widely used in many industrial and technological fields. With the development of technology, their dimensions are being produced in smaller and smaller sizes. As a result, making fast distinctions becomes difficult. Being able to classify electronic components quickly and accurately will save labor and time in all areas where these elements are used. Recently, deep learning algorithms have become preferential in product classification studies due to their high accuracy and speed. In this paper, a classification study of electronic components was carried out with the deep learning method. A new convolutional neural network (CNN) model is proposed in the study. The model has six convolution layers, four pooling layers, two fully connected layers, softmax, and a classification layer. The training parameters of the network were determined as an ensemble size of 16, maximum period of 100, initial learning rate of 1 × 10−3, and the optimizing method sgdm. While determining the CNN model layers and training parameters, the values with the highest predictive values were selected as a result of the trials. Classification research was conducted using the pre-trained networks AlexNet, ShuffleNet, SqueezeNet, and GoogleNet for the same data, and their performance success parameters were compared to those of the proposed CNN model. The standard of manual operation in smart grid, which require accurate manipulation, is high, especially in experimental, practice, and training systems based on virtual reality (VR). In the VR training system, data gloves are often used to obtain the accurate dataset of hand movements. Previous works rarely considered the multi-sensor datasets, which collected from the data gloves, to complete the action evaluation of VR training systems. In this paper, a vectorized graph convolutional deep learning model is proposed to evaluate the accuracy of test actions. First, the kernel of vectorized spatio-temporal graph convolutional of the data glove is constructed with different weights for different finger joints, and the data dimensionality reduction is also achieved. Then, different evaluation strategies are proposed for different actions. Finally, a convolution deep learning network for vectorized spatio-temporal graph is built to obtain the similarity between test actions and standard ones. The evaluation results of the proposed algorithm are compared with the subjective ones labeled by experts. The experimental results verify that the proposed action evaluation method based on the vectorized spatio-temporal graph convolutional is efficient for the manual operation accuracy evaluation in VR training systems of smart grids. Self-driving cars, i.e., fully automated cars, will spread in the upcoming two decades, according to the representatives of automotive industries; owing to technological breakthroughs in the fourth industrial revolution, as the introduction of deep learning has completely changed the concept of automation. There is considerable research being conducted regarding object detection systems, for instance, lane, pedestrian, or signal detection. This paper specifically focuses on pedestrian detection while the car is moving on the road, where speed and environmental conditions affect visibility. To explore the environmental conditions, a pedestrian custom dataset based on Common Object in Context (COCO) is used. The images are manipulated with the inverse gamma correction method, in which pixel values are changed to make a sequence of bright and dark images. The gamma correction method is directly related to luminance intensity. This paper presents a flexible, simple detection system called Mask R-CNN, which works on top of the Faster R-CNN (Region Based Convolutional Neural Network) model. Mask R-CNN uses one extra feature instance segmentation in addition to two available features in the Faster R-CNN, called object recognition. The performance of the Mask R-CNN models is checked by using different Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) models as a backbone. Load disaggregation for the identification of specific load types in the total demands (e.g., demand-manageable loads, such as heating or cooling loads) is becoming increasingly important for the operation of existing and future power supply systems. This paper introduces an approach in which periodical changes in the total demands (e.g., daily, weekly, and seasonal variations) are disaggregated into corresponding frequency components and correlated with the same frequency components in the meteorological variables (e.g., temperature and solar irradiance), allowing to select combinations of frequency components with the strongest correlations as the additional explanatory variables. The paper first presents a novel Fourier series regression method for obtaining target frequency components, which is illustrated on two household-level datasets and one substation-level dataset. These results show that correlations between selected disaggregated frequency components are stronger than the correlations between the original non-disaggregated data. Afterwards, convolutional neural network (CNN) and bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM) methods are used to represent dependencies among multiple dimensions and to output the estimated disaggregated time series of specific types of loads, where Bayesian optimisation is applied to select hyperparameters of CNN-BiLSTM model. The CNN-BiLSTM and other deep learning models are reported to have excellent performance in many regression problems, but they are often applied as "black box" models without further exploration or analysis of the modelled processes. Therefore, the paper compares CNN-BiLSTM model in which correlated frequency components are used as the additional explanatory variables with a naïve CNN-BiLSTM model (without frequency components). The presented case studies, related to the identification of electrical heating load and lighting load from the total demands, show that the accuracy of disaggregation improves after specific frequency components of the total demand are correlated with the corresponding frequency components of temperature and solar irradiance, i.e., that frequency component-based CNN-BiLSTM model provides a more accurate load disaggregation. Roof-mounted photovoltaic systems play a critical role in the global transition to renewable energy generation. An analysis of roof photovoltaic potential is an important tool for supporting decision-making and for accelerating new installations. State of the art uses 3D data to conduct potential analyses with high spatial resolution, limiting the study area to places with available 3D data. Recent advances in deep learning allow the required roof information from aerial images to be extracted. Furthermore, most publications consider the technical photovoltaic potential, and only a few publications determine the photovoltaic economic potential. Therefore, this paper extends state of the art by proposing and applying a methodology for scalable economic photovoltaic potential analysis using aerial images and deep learning. Two convolutional neural networks are trained for semantic segmentation of roof segments and superstructures and achieve an Intersection over Union values of 0.84 and 0.64, respectively. We calculated the internal rate of return of each roof segment for 71 buildings in a small study area. A comparison of this paper's methodology with a 3D-based analysis discusses its benefits and disadvantages. The proposed methodology uses only publicly available data and is potentially scalable to the global level. However, this poses a variety of research challenges and opportunities, which are summarized with a focus on the application of deep learning, economic photovoltaic potential analysis, and energy system analysis. Artificial intelligence algorithms and vibration signature monitoring are recurrent approaches to perform early bearing damage identification in induction motors. This approach is unfeasible in most industrial applications because these machines are unable to perform their nominal functions under damaged conditions. In addition, many machines are installed at inaccessible sites or their housing prevents the setting of new sensors. Otherwise, current signature monitoring is available in most industrial machines because the devices that control, supply and protect these systems use the stator current. Another significant advantage is that the stator phases lose symmetry in bearing damaged conditions and, therefore, are multiple independent sources. Thus, this paper introduces a new approach based on fractional wavelet denoising and a deep learning algorithm to perform a bearing damage diagnosis from stator currents. Several convolutional neural networks extract features from multiple sources to perform supervised learning. An information fusion (IF) algorithm then creates a new feature set and performs the classification. Furthermore, this paper introduces a new method to achieve positive unlabeled learning. The flattened layer of several feature maps inputs the fuzzy c-means algorithm to perform a novelty detection instead of clusterization in a dynamic IF context. This paper also used temperature data from a year ago to predict the next year. To do this, we proposed single deep learning algorithms and hybrid deep learning algorithms. The former included multi-layer perceptron (MLP), convolution neural network (CNN), long short-term memory (LSTM), gated recurrent unit (GRU), support vector machine regression (SVR), and adaptive network-based fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). The latter included LSTM + CNN and CNN + LSTM. We then confirmed the improvement of accuracy for prediction using pre-processed variables compared to original variables We also assigned two years of test data during 2017–2018 as variable data to measure high prediction accuracy. We then selected a high-accuracy algorithm after measuring root mean square error (RMSE) and mean absolute percent error (MAPE). Finally, we predicted the amount of EPT in 2018 and then measured the error for each proposed algorithm. In this paper, a deep learning-based successive interference cancellation (SIC) scheme for use in nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA) communication systems is investigated. NOMA has become a notable technique in the field of mobile wireless communication because of its capacity to overcome orthogonality, unlike a conventional orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) communication system. In NOMA communication systems, SIC is one of the decoding schemes applied at receivers for downlink NOMA transmissions. In this paper, a convolutional neural network (CNN)-based SIC scheme is proposed to improve performance of the single base station and multiuser NOMA scheme. In contrast to existing SIC schemes, the proposed CNN-based SIC scheme can effectively mitigate losses resulting from imperfections of the SIC. The simulation results indicate that the CNN-based SIC method can successfully relieve conventional SIC impairments and achieve good detection performance. Thermal comfort is associated with clothing insulation, conveying a level of satisfaction with the thermal surroundings. Besides, clothing insulation is commonly associated with indoor thermal comfort. However, clothing classification in smart homes might save energy when the end-user wears appropriate clothes to save energy and obtain thermal comfort. Furthermore, object detection and classification through Convolutional Neural Networks has increased over the last decade. There are real-time clothing garment classifiers, but these are oriented towards single garment recognition for texture, fabric, shape, or style. Consequently, this paper proposes a CNN model classification for the implementation of these classifiers on cameras. First, the Fashion MNIST was analyzed and compared with the VGG16, Inceptionvv4, TinyYOLOv3, and ResNet18 classification algorithms to determine the best clo classifier. Then, for real-time analysis, a new dataset with 12,000 images was created and analyzed with the YOLOv3 and TinyYOLO. Finally, an Azure Kinect DT was employed to analyze the clo value in real-time. Moreover, real-time analysis can be employed with any other webcam. The model recognizes at least three garments of a clothing ensemble, proving that it identifies more than a single clothing garment. This paper proposes a fault diagnosis method for ship electrical power systems on the basis of an improved convolutional neural network (CNN) to support normal ship operation. First, according to the mathematical model of the ship electrical power system, the simulation model of the ship electrical power system is built using the MATLAB/Simulink simulation software platform in order to understand the normal working state and fault state of the generator and load in the power system. Then, the model is simulated to generate the fault response curve, and the picture dataset of the network model is obtained. Second, a CNN fault diagnosis model is designed using TensorFlow, an open-source tool for deep learning. Finally, network model training is performed, and the optimal diagnosis results of the ship electrical power system are obtained to realize structural parameter optimization and diagnosis. The diagnosis results show that the established simulation model and improved CNN can provide support for fault diagnosis of the ship electrical power system, improve the operation stability and safety of the ship electrical power system, and ensure safety of the crew. The availability of smart meters and IoT technology has opened new opportunities, ranging from monitoring electrical energy to extracting various types of information related to household occupancy, and with the frequency of usage of different appliances. Non-intrusive load monitoring (NILM) allows users to disaggregate the usage of each device in the house using the total aggregated power signals collected from a smart meter that is typically installed in the household. It enables the monitoring of domestic appliance use without the need to install individual sensors for each device, thus minimizing electrical system complexities and associated costs. This paper proposes an NILM framework based on low frequency power data using a convex hull data selection approach and hybrid deep learning architecture. It employs a sliding window of aggregated active and reactive powers sampled at 1 Hz. A randomized approximation convex hull data selection approach performs the selection of the most informative vertices of the real convex hull. The hybrid deep learning architecture is composed of two models: a classification model based on a convolutional neural network trained with a regression model based on a bidirectional long-term memory neural network. The results obtained on the test dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, achieving F1 values ranging from 0.95 to 0.99 for the four devices considered and estimation accuracy values between 0.88 and 0.98. This paper aims to develop an efficient pattern recognition method for engine fault end-to-end detection based on the echo state network (ESN) and multi-verse optimizer (MVO). Bispectrum is employed to transform the one-dimensional time-dependent vibration signal into a two-dimensional matrix with more impact features. A sparse input weight-generating algorithm is designed for the ESN. Furthermore, a deep ESN model is built by fusing fixed convolution kernels and an autoencoder (AE). A novel traveling distance rate (TDR) and collapse mechanism are studied to optimize the local search of the MVO and speed it up. The improved MVO is employed to optimize the hyper-parameters of the deep ESN for the two-dimensional matrix recognition. The experiment result shows that the proposed method can obtain a recognition rate of 93.10% in complex engine faults. Compared with traditional deep belief networks (DBNs), convolutional neural networks (CNNs), the long short-term memory (LSTM) network, and the gated recurrent unit (GRU), this novel method displays superior performance and could benefit the fault end-to-end detection of rotating machinery. Intelligent and pragmatic state-of-health (SOH) estimation is critical for the safe and reliable operation of Li-ion batteries, which recently have become ubiquitous for applications such as electrified vehicles, smart grids, smartphones, as well as manned and unmanned aerial vehicles. This paper introduces a convolutional neural network (CNN)-based framework for directly estimating SOH from voltage, current, and temperature measured while the battery is charging. The CNN is trained with data from as many as 28 cells, which were aged at two temperatures using randomized usage profiles. CNNs with between 1 and 6 layers and between 32 and 256 neurons were investigated, and the training data was augmented with noise and error as well to improve accuracy. Importantly, the algorithm was validated for partial charges, as would be common for many applications. Full charges starting between 0 and 95% SOC as well as for multiple ranges ending at less than 100% SOC were tested. The proposed CNN SOH estimation framework achieved a mean average error (MAE) as low as 0.8% over the life of the battery, and still achieved a reasonable MAE of 1.6% when a very small charge window of 85% to 97% SOC was used. While the CNN algorithm is shown to estimate SOH very accurately with partial charge data and two temperatures, further studies could also investigate a wider temperature range and multiple different charge currents or constant power charging. Defects in high voltage transmission line components such as cracked insulators, broken wires rope, and corroded power line joints, are very common due to continuous exposure of these components to harsh environmental conditions. Consequently, they pose a great threat to humans and the environment. This paper presents a real-time aerial power line inspection system that aims to detect power line components such as insulators (polymer and porcelain), splitters, damper-weights, power lines, and then analyze these transmission line components for potential defects. The proposed system employs a deep learning-based framework using Jetson TX2 embedded platform for the real-time detection and localization of these components from a live video captured by remote-controlled drone. The detected components are then analyzed using novel defect detection algorithms, presented in this paper. Results show that the proposed detection and localization system is robust against highly cluttered environment, while the proposed defect analyzer outperforms similar researches in terms of defect detection precision and recall. Building extraction from remote sensing (RS) images is a fundamental task for geospatial applications, aiming to obtain morphology, location, and other information about buildings from RS images, which is significant for geographic monitoring and construction of human activity areas. In recent years, deep learning (DL) technology has made remarkable progress and breakthroughs in the field of RS and also become a central and state-of-the-art method for building extraction. This paper provides an overview over the developed DL-based building extraction methods from RS images. Firstly, we describe the DL technologies of this field as well as the loss function over semantic segmentation. Next, a description of important publicly available datasets and evaluation metrics directly related to the problem follows. Then, the main DL methods are reviewed, highlighting contributions and significance in the field. After that, comparative results on several publicly available datasets are given for the described methods, following up with a discussion.
