The building and transportation sectors are responsible for the greatest proportion of energy consumption in cities. While they are intrinsically interlinked with urban built form and density, climate change and technological innovation are having an effect on their relative contributions. This paper aims to develop an optimisation framework to facilitate the identification of the most energy-efficient urban built forms and urban geometry for the future built environment that can be adapted to the changing climate and ongoing technological development. It examines future scenarios for the city of London as a temperate climate zone (as a case study), in 2050, and contrasts it with the present situation. Specifically, the impact of climate change along with the penetration of electric vehicles into the transportation system that can be charged via rooftop photovoltaics is investigated. This study initially develops the geometrical models of four selected urban built forms and, secondly, analyzes their energy performance using an urban energy simulation software. The results, showing the impact of future scenarios on building energy performance, urban built form and density, demonstrate that court and tunnel-court built forms show better energy performance for future development. It is therefore recommended that for future urban developments in London, deep plan court and tunnel-court buildings with a lower number of storeys and a large cut-off angle are more advantageous in terms of building energy to accommodate the expected climate change. Finally, results of simulation trials indicate that the total building energy demand in 2050 is considerably higher than in the present climate as a result of additional cooling load and electric vehicle charging load. Electric vehicles (EVs) are rapidly becoming a sustainable and viable mode of future transportation due to their multitude of advantages, such as reduced CO2 emissions, local air pollutants, and vehicular noise. This study aims to identify and analyze the scientific literature using bibliometric analysis to determine the main topics of authors, their sources, and the most-cited articles, countries, journals, and institutes in the literature on EVs. This bibliometric analysis included scientific work that was published from 2011 to 2022 to provide a thorough analysis of EVs, which will assist researchers and policymakers in understanding the most current global EV advancements. This analysis extracted all bibliometric information about EVs from the Scopus database, collecting 17,150 articles published between 2011 and 2022. The data were sorted for analysis by publication year, document type, author, institute, country, cited author, keyword, and keyword co-occurrence of the EVs. The VOSviewer software was employed to examine the sorted data due to its excellent analysis and visualization capabilities. We used VOSviewer to graphically represent the density, co-occurrence, trends, and linkage of the aforementioned data comprehensibly. The publishing patterns of EVs indicate that the research field is evolving, with a yearly increase in the number of publications. The analysis showed that China, the United States, and the United Kingdom are leading in EV research and large-scale applications. Furthermore, China is the leading country in terms of research institutions and authors involved in EVs. The journal Energies is the most prominent publication periodical. Keyword analysis revealed that during the past decade, EV research has concentrated on battery-management systems, energy storage, charging infrastructure, environmental concerns, etc. The bibliometric study offered pertinent details on the main themes explored concerning EVs and current technological developments. The increasing popularity of electric vehicles (EVs) has been attributed to their low-carbon and environmentally friendly attributes. Extensive research has been undertaken in view of the depletion of fossil fuels, changes in climatic conditions due to air pollution, and the goal of developing EVs capable of matching or exceeding the performance of today's internal combustion engines (ICEs). The transition from ICE vehicles to EVs can reduce greenhouse gases significantly over a vehicle's lifetime. Across the different types of EVs, the widespread usage of batteries is due to their high power density and steady output voltage, making them an excellent energy storage device (ESD). The current downsides of battery-powered electric vehicles include long recharge times, the impact of additional strain on the grid, poor societal acceptance due to high initial costs, and a lack of adequate charging infrastructure. Even more problematic is their short driving range when compared to standard ICE and fuel cell EVs. Battery degradation occurs when the capacity of a battery degrades, resulting in a reduction in travel range. This review article includes a description of battery degradation, degradation mechanisms, and types of degradation. A detailed investigation of the methods used to address and reduce battery degeneration is presented. Under the challenge of climate change, fuel-based vehicles have been receiving increasingly harsh criticism. To promote the use of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) as an alternative, many researchers have studied the deployment of BEVs. This paper proposes a new method to choose locations for new BEV charging stations considering drivers' perceived time cost and the existing infrastructure. We construct probability equations to estimate drivers' demanding time for charging (and waiting to charge), use the Voronoi diagram to separate the study area (i.e., Shanghai) into service areas, and apply an optimization algorithm to deploy the charging stations in the right locations. The results show that (1) the probability of charging at public charging stations is 39.6%, indicating BEV drivers prefer to charge at home; (2) Shanghai's central area and two airports have the busiest charging stations, but drivers' time costs are relatively low; and (3) our optimization algorithm successfully located two new charging stations surrounding the central area, matching with our expectations. To combat global climate change moving towards sustainable, mobility is one of the most holistic approaches. Hence, decarbonization of the transport sector by employing electric vehicles (EVs) is currently an environmentally benign and efficient solution. The EV includes the hybrid EV (HEV), the plug-in hybrid EV (PHEV), and the battery EV (BEV). A storage system, a charging station, and power electronics are the essential components of EVs. The EV charging station is primarily powered from the grid which can be replaced by a solar photovoltaic system. Wide uptake of EVs is possible by improving the technologies, and also with support from the government. Fuelled by energy security problems and urban air pollution challenges, several countries worldwide have set the objective to gradually eliminate petrol and diesel cars. The increasing support from government and demands for environmental friendly means of transportation are accelerating the use of battery electric vehicles. However, it is indispensable to have accurate and complete information about their behaviour in different traffic situations and road conditions. For the experimental analysis carried out in this study, three different electric vehicles from the Edinburgh College leasing program were equipped and tracked to obtain over 50 GPS and energy consumption data for short distance journeys in the Edinburgh area and long-range tests between Edinburgh and Bristol (UK). The results showed that the vehicles' energy intensities were significantly affected by the driving cycle pattern, with a noticeable diminution due to low temperatures. It was found that the real available range of the electric vehicle in some situations could be 17% lower than the predicted mileage shown in the dashboard of the vehicle. The difference from the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) values was even higher. The study has also provided a discussion on the effect of the electricity mix on carbon emission reduction. The penetration of electric vehicles (EV) seems to be a forthcoming reality in the transport sector worldwide, involving significant increases in electricity demand. However, many countries such as Spain have not yet set binding policy targets in this regard. When compared to a business-as-usual situation, this work evaluates the life-cycle consequences of the increased electricity demand of the Spanish road transport technology mix until 2050. This is done by combining Life Cycle Assessment and Energy Systems Modelling under three alternative scenarios based on the low, medium, or high penetration rate of EV. In all cases, EV deployment is found to involve a relatively small percentage (<4%) of the final electricity demand. Wind power and waste-to-energy plants arise as the main technologies responsible for meeting the increased electricity demand associated with EV penetration. When considering a high market penetration (20 million EV by 2050), the highest annual impacts potentially caused by the additional electricity demand are 0.93 Mt CO2 eq, 0.25 kDALY, and 30.34 PJ in terms of climate change, human health, and resources, respectively. Overall, EV penetration is concluded to slightly affect the national power generation sector, whereas it could dramatically reduce the life-cycle impacts associated with conventional transport.
