Low-voltage dc distribution offers high efficiency for grid integration of dc-based technologies such as photovoltaic and battery storage systems and new loads such as charging stations for electric vehicles due to reduced number of conversion stages. However, the selection of protection devices, protection coordination and selectivity is still subject to research. This work proposes to use a two-layer protection technique utilizing the control capability of power converters in case of a short-circuit fault at branch level of a low voltage dc feeder. The first layer is limiting the bus current using a virtual resistance in the droop control to avoid tripping of the grid-forming converter. The second layer implements a soft fuse tripping technique for selectivity. The control concept is presented and the system stability is analyzed using impedance-based stability analysis. Multiphase drives are entering the spotlight of the research community for transportation applications with their high power density and the possibility of high fault tolerance. The multi three-phase drive is one of the main types of multiphase drives that allows for the direct adoption of commercial three-phase converters and high control flexibility. The elimination of high-frequency current harmonics will reduce the flux linkage harmonics, torque ripple, vibration and noise in machine drives. Therefore, this work introduces a new method to the modelling of equivalent phase current in multi three-phase drives with the double integral Fourier analysis method. A new carrier-based pulse-width modulation (CPWM) method is introduced to reduce the equivalent phase current harmonics by applying proper carrier phase angle to each subsystem in the multi three-phase drives. The proposed angles of carrier signals are analyzed for quadruple three-phase drives, and the corresponding experimental results confirm the significance of the proposed phase-shifted CPWM method to eliminate the equivalent phase current harmonics. In this paper, a flexible switching table (FST) for direct torque control (DTC) of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) was proposed to enhance the steady-state and dynamic performances of the drive system. First, the influence of each converter output voltage vectors on the torque and stator flux deviation rates was analyzed to assess the voltage selection strategies of the conventional STs and their impact on the DTC system's performance. Then, a new flexible ST was proposed which uses a simple algorithm to adaptively select the appropriate voltage vector for two of its states according to the system operating condition. The effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed FST were verified through a comparative evaluation with the conventional STs using experimental results obtained from a 0.75 kW PMSM drive system.
