The coupling relationship between the deformation field, the diffusion field, and the seepage field is an important factor in fluid transport mechanisms in the long-term coalbed methane (CBM) exploitation process. A mathematical model of gas–water two-phase fluid–structure coupling in a double-porosity medium in coal reservoirs is established in this paper. Taking Hancheng Block, a typical production block in Qinshui Basin, as the geological background critical desorption pressure, reservoir permeability anisotropy is considered in the model. COMSOL Multiphysics (COMSOL_6.0) was used to create the model. The accuracy and rationality of the model were verified by comparing field production data with the results of the simulation. Using the simulation, the influence law of various reservoir geological characteristics parameters (Langmuir strain constant, ratio of critical desorption pressure to reservoir pressure of coal seam (CDPRP), elastic modulus, initial water saturation, Langmuir pressure, etc.) on CBM productivity, reservoir pressure, and permeability ratio was discussed, and a thorough analysis of the factors affecting productivity was obtained using the orthogonal test method. The findings of this study indicate that the change in permeability is the result of the superposition effect of many factors. Different stages of drainage have different primary regulating factors. Rock skeleton stress has a consequence on coal matrix permeability in the early drainage stage, and coal matrix shrinkage is primarily impacted in the later drainage stage. Besides the initial water saturation, other reservoir geological parameters (e.g., CDPRP, Langmuir volume, Langmuir strain constant, elastic modulus) have a strong relationship with productivity. When the value of coal geological parameters increases, the degree of productivity release is higher (as the initial water saturation increases, the production decreases correspondingly). Different coal and rock parameters have varying levels of impact on the drainage stage of CBM wells. The influences of the CDPRP, Langmuir volume, Langmuir strain constant, and elastic modulus on gas production are mainly concentrated in the initial and intermediate drainage stages and begin to fall off during the last drainage stage. Per the multi-factor analysis, the main coal–rock parameters affecting the productivity release are the Langmuir strain constant, followed by the CDPRP and other parameters. The analysis findings can offer theoretical guidance for CBM well selection and layer selection and enhance the block's overall CBM development level. The improved productivity prediction model for CBM, which is based on fluid–structure coupling theory, can offer a new technical benchmark for CBM well productivity prediction. This study will present a comprehensive review of the two-phase flow boiling heat transfer coefficient of hydrocarbons such as propane (R-290), butane (R-600), iso-butane (R-600a), and ethanol at various experimental conditions. Studying the multiphase flow heat transfer coefficient is crucial for many types of heat transfer equipment to achieve higher efficiency for more compact design and cost reduction. One reason we chose hydrocarbons as refrigerants in this study is that they are of an ozone depletion potential equal to zero (ODP = 0) and a deficient level of direct global warming potential (GWP = 3). Moreover, hydrocarbons' thermodynamic and thermophysical characteristics qualify them to be a strong candidate for more heat transfer applications, initially, by constructing a database for the working fluids using multiple existing experimental work. The current data that this study have collected for the flow boiling spans a wide range of parameters, such as mass flux, heat flux, operating pressure, saturation temperature, etc. Furthermore, by comparing the experimental multiphase heat transfer coefficient database with the anticipated values of each correlation, the prediction performance of 26 correlations found in the literature was assessed. This study allows the best prediction method to be selected based on the minimum deviation of predicted results from the experimental database provided based on the mean absolute error (MAE) calculated from the assessed correlations. The conclusions of such a study can also be helpful for developing more accurate correlation methods for these fluids and improving the prediction of their flow boiling characteristics. High resolution micro-computed tomography images for multiphase flow provide us an effective tool to understand the mechanism of fluid flow in porous media, which is not only fundamental to the understanding of macroscopic measurements but also for providing benchmark datasets to validate pore-scale modeling. In this study, we start from two datasets of pore scale imaging of two-phase flow obtained experimentally under in situ imaging conditions at different water fractional flows under water-wet and mixed-wet conditions. Then, fractal dimension, lacunarity and succolarity are used to quantify the complexity, clustering and flow capacity of water and oil phases. The results show that with the wettability of rock surface altered from water-wet to mixed-wet, the fractal dimension for the water phase increases while for the oil phase, it decreases obviously at low water saturation. Lacunarity largely depends on the degree of wettability alteration. The more uniform wetting surfaces are distributed, the more homogeneous the fluid configuration is, which indicates smaller values for lacunarity. Moreover, succolarity is shown to well characterize the wettability effect on flow capacity. The succolarity of the oil phase in the water-wet case is larger than that in the mixed-wet case while for the water phase, the succolarity value in the water-wet is small compared with that in the mixed-wet, which show a similar trend with relative permeability curves for water-wet and mixed-wet. Our study provides a perspective into the influence that phase geometry has on relative permeability under controlled wettability and the resulting phase fractal changes under different saturations that occur during multiphase flow, which allows a means to understand phase geometric changes that occur during fluid flow. Two phase flow and horizontal well completion pose additional challenges for rate-transient analysis (RTA) techniques in under-saturated coal seam gas (CSG) reservoirs. To better obtain reservoir parameters, a practical workflow for the two phase RTA technique is presented to extract reservoir information by the analysis of production data of a horizontal well in an under-saturated CSG reservoir. This workflow includes a flowing material balance (FMB) technique and an improved form of two phase (water + gas) RTA. At production stage of a horizontal well in under-saturated CSG reservoirs, a FMB technique was developed to extract original water in-place (OWIP) and horizontal permeability. This FMB technique involves the application of an appropriate productivity equation representing the relative position of the horizontal well in the drainage area. Then, two phase (water + gas) RTA of a horizontal well was also investigated by introducing the concept of the area of influence (AI), which enables the calculation of the water saturation during the transient formation linear flow. Finally, simulation and field examples are presented to validate and demonstrate the application of the proposed techniques. Simulation results indicate that the proposed FMB technique accurately predicts OWIP and coal permeability when an appropriate productivity equation is selected. Understanding multiphase flow and gas transport occurring in electrodes is crucial for improving the performance of proton exchange membrane fuel cells. In the present study, a pore-scale model using the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) was proposed to study the coupled processes of air–water two-phase flow and oxygen reactive transport processes in porous structures of the gas diffusion layer (GDL) and in fractures of the microscopic porous layer (MPL). Three-dimensional pore-scale numerical results show that the liquid water generation rate is gradually reduced as the oxygen consumption reaction proceeds, and the liquid water saturation in the GDL increases, thus the constant velocity inlet or pressure inlet condition cannot be maintained while the results showed that at t = 1,200,000 iterations after 2900 h running time, the local saturation at the GDL/MPL was about 0.7, and the maximum value was about 0.83, while the total saturation was 0.35. The current density reduced from 2.39 to 0.46 A cm−2. Effects of fracture number were also investigated, and the results showed that for the fracture numbers of 8, 12, 16, and 24, the breakthrough point number was 4, 3, 3, and 2, respectively. As the fracture number increased, the number of the water breakthrough points at the GDL/GC interface decreased, the liquid water saturation inside the GDL increased, the GDL/MPL interface was more seriously covered, and the current density decreased. The pore-scale model for the coupled multiphase reactive transport processes is helpful for understanding the mechanisms inside the porous electrodes of PEMFC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Steady state flow boiling experiments were carried out on several heated tubes with outer diameter 9.14 mm at outlet pressures 120, 200 and 300 kPa, inlet temperatures 64, 78 and 91 °C and approximately 400, 500, 600 and 800 kg/(m2·s) mass flux entering the vertically aligned test annulus until critical heat flux (CHF) was reached. The tubes were made of Inconel 625 with a length of 400 mm. The Inconel tubes were tested in three different modifications as smooth, abraded with 150 grit sandpaper and bead blasted. Multiple experiments were repeated on the same specimen to investigate the effect of surface characteristic changes (i.e., wettability, roughness and oxide layer morphology) on the occurrence of CHF. Despite the changes in initial wettability, the CHF dependency was not clearly observed, however, the changes in roughness led to an increase in CHF. There are several well-known and widely used industrial cleaning methods in the market today. One of them is dry ice blasting. In this method, moisture-free air is compressed, mixed with solid CO2 particles, and blasted though a nozzle; in the process, the gas expands, propelling its velocity. The high-speed, two-phase flow cleans by supercooling and crushing particles on the surface, causing dry ice sublimation. As the nozzle is a crucial component of the system, the authors conducted a numerical analysis of the geometry of the proposed convergent-divergent nozzle. A mathematical model of the supersonic, two-phase flow was developed and implemented in commercial Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) code.
