Refrigerator models in the UK and in Germany were compared to determine how the UK rates in terms of energy efficiency in domestic refrigeration. The results showed that German-made refrigerators that are inefficient by German standards are being sold in the UK, where the same refrigerators are considered efficient. In contrast, UK-made refrigerators are not sold in Germany as they are highly inefficient. It is suggested that the UK adopt a compulsory energy-efficiency labeling scheme similar to that of the US to stop the dumping of inefficient German refrigerator models in the country.
