Abstract

The article reports that the collapse of a cantilevered segment of an elevated rail track being constructed in New Delhi, India, on July 12, 2009 was caused by a design flaw and inadequate concrete curing. The incident, which killed six people, could prompt the rail agency Delhi Metro Rail Corp. (DMRC) to ban design-build contractor Gammon India from further work. The agency is also conducting inspection of 87 piers built under the same project.
