A highly versatile evaluation method is proposed for transient plasmas based on statistical physics. It would be beneficial in various industrial sectors, including semiconductors and automobiles. Our research focused on low-energy plasmas in laboratory settings, and they were assessed via our proposed method, which incorporates relative entropy and fractional Brownian motion, based on a revised collisional–radiative model. By introducing an indicator to evaluate how far a system is from its steady state, both the trend of entropy and the radiative process' contribution to the lifetime of excited states were considered. The high statistical weight of some excited states may act as a bottleneck in the plasma's energy relaxation throughout the system to a steady state. By deepening our understanding of how energy flows through plasmas, we anticipate potential contributions to resolving global environmental issues and fostering technological innovation in plasma-related industrial fields. This research offers a solution to a highly recognized and controversial problem within the composite indicator literature: sub-indicators weighting. The research proposes a novel hybrid weighting method that maximizes the discriminating power of the composite indicator with objectively defined weights. It considers the experts' uncertainty concerning the conceptual importance of sub-indicators in the multidimensional phenomenon, setting maximum and minimum weights (constraints) in the optimization function. The hybrid weighting scheme, known as the SAW-Max-Entropy method, avoids attributing weights that are incompatible with the multidimensional phenomenon's theoretical framework. At the same time, it reduces the influence of assessment errors and judgment biases on composite indicator scores. The research results show that the SAW-Max-Entropy weighting scheme achieves greater discriminating power than weighting schemes based on the Entropy Index, Expert Opinion, and Equal Weights. The SAW-Max-Entropy method has high application potential due to the increasing use of composite indicators across diverse areas of knowledge. Hyperspectral-image (HSI) restoration plays an essential role in remote sensing image processing. Recently, superpixel segmentation-based the low-rank regularized methods for HSI restoration have shown outstanding performance. However, most of them simply segment the HSI according to its first principal component, which is suboptimal. In this paper, integrating the superpixel segmentation with principal component analysis, we propose a robust superpixel segmentation strategy to better divide the HSI, which can further enhance the low-rank attribute of the HSI. To better employ the low-rank attribute, the weighted nuclear norm by three types of weighting is proposed to efficiently remove the mixed noise in degraded HSI. Due to their wide application in many disciplines, how to make an efficient ranking for nodes, especially for nodes in graph data, has aroused lots of attention. To overcome the shortcoming that most traditional ranking methods only consider the mutual influence between nodes but ignore the influence of edges, this paper proposes a self-information weighting-based method to rank all nodes in graph data. In the first place, the graph data are weighted by regarding the self-information of edges in terms of node degree. On this base, the information entropy of nodes is constructed to measure the importance of each node and in which case all nodes can be ranked. To verify the effectiveness of this proposed ranking method, we compare it with six existing methods on nine real-world datasets. Weight aggregation is the key process to solve a multiple-attribute group decision-making (MAGDM) problem. This paper is trying to propose a possible approach to objectivize subjective information and to aggregate information from attribute values themselves and decision-makers' judgment. An MAGDM problem without information about decision-makers' and attributes' weight is considered. In order to define decision-makers' subjective preference, their utility function is introduced. The attributes value matrix is converted into a subjective attributes value matrix based on their subjective judgment on attribute values. By utilizing the entropy weighting technique, decision-maker's subjective weight on attributes and objective weight on attributes are determined individually based on the subjective attributes value matrix and attributes value matrix. Based on the principle of minimum cross-entropy, all decision-makers' subjective weights are integrated into a single weight vector that is closest to all decision-makers' judgment without any extra information added. Then, by applying the principle of minimum cross-entropy again, a weight aggregation method is proposed to combine the subjective and objective weight of attributes. The classic principal components analysis (PCA), kernel PCA (KPCA) and linear discriminant analysis (LDA) feature extraction methods evaluate the importance of components according to their covariance contribution, not considering the entropy contribution, which is important supplementary information for the covariance. To further improve the covariance-based methods such as PCA (or KPCA), this paper firstly proposed an entropy matrix to load the uncertainty information of random variables similar to the covariance matrix loading the variation information in PCA. Then an entropy-difference matrix was used as a weighting matrix for transforming the original training images. This entropy-difference weighting (EW) matrix not only made good use of the local information of the training samples, contrast to the global method of PCA, but also considered the category information similar to LDA idea. Then the EW method was integrated with PCA (or KPCA), to form new feature extracting method. The new method was used for face recognition with the nearest neighbor classifier. The experimental results based on the ORL and Yale databases showed that the proposed method with proper threshold parameters reached higher recognition rates than the usual PCA (or KPCA) methods. In the era of a large number of tools and applications that constantly produce massive amounts of data, their processing and proper classification is becoming both increasingly hard and important. This task is hindered by changing the distribution of data over time, called the concept drift, and the emergence of a problem of disproportion between classes—such as in the detection of network attacks or fraud detection problems. In the following work, we propose methods to modify existing stream processing solutions—Accuracy Weighted Ensemble (AWE) and Accuracy Updated Ensemble (AUE), which have demonstrated their effectiveness in adapting to time-varying class distribution. The introduced changes are aimed at increasing their quality on binary classification of imbalanced data. The proposed modifications contain the inclusion of aggregate metrics, such as F1-score, G-mean and balanced accuracy score in calculation of the member classifiers weights, which affects their composition and final prediction. Moreover, the impact of data sampling on the algorithm's effectiveness was also checked. Complex experiments were conducted to define the most promising modification type, as well as to compare proposed methods with existing solutions. Estimating the parameters of the autoregressive (AR) random process is a problem that has been well-studied. In many applications, only noisy measurements of AR process are available. The effect of the additive noise is that the system can be modeled as an AR model with colored noise, even when the measurement noise is white, where the correlation matrix depends on the AR parameters. Because of the correlation, it is expedient to compute using multiple stacked observations. Performing a weighted least-squares estimation of the AR parameters using an inverse covariance weighting can provide significantly better parameter estimates, with improvement increasing with the stack depth. The estimation algorithm is essentially a vector RLS adaptive filter, with time-varying covariance matrix. Different ways of estimating the unknown covariance are presented, as well as a method to estimate the variances of the AR and observation noise. A discrete system's heterogeneity is measured by the Rényi heterogeneity family of indices (also known as Hill numbers or Hannah–Kay indices), whose units are the numbers equivalent. Unfortunately, numbers equivalent heterogeneity measures for non-categorical data require a priori (A) categorical partitioning and (B) pairwise distance measurement on the observable data space, thereby precluding application to problems with ill-defined categories or where semantically relevant features must be learned as abstractions from some data. We thus introduce representational Rényi heterogeneity (RRH), which transforms an observable domain onto a latent space upon which the Rényi heterogeneity is both tractable and semantically relevant. This method requires neither a priori binning nor definition of a distance function on the observable space. We show that RRH can generalize existing biodiversity and economic equality indices. Compared with existing indices on a beta-mixture distribution, we show that RRH responds more appropriately to changes in mixture component separation and weighting. Finally, we demonstrate the measurement of RRH in a set of natural images, with respect to abstract representations learned by a deep neural network. Extracting structural information from sequence co-variation has become a common computational biology practice in the recent years, mainly due to the availability of large sequence alignments of protein families. However, identifying features that are specific to sub-classes and not shared by all members of the family using sequence-based approaches has remained an elusive problem. We here present a coevolutionary-based method to differentially analyze subfamily specific structural features by a continuous sequence reweighting (SR) approach. We introduce the underlying principles and test its predictive capabilities on the Response Regulator family, whose subfamilies have been previously shown to display distinct, specific homo-dimerization patterns. Our results show that this reweighting scheme is effective in assigning structural features known a priori to subfamilies, even when sequence data is relatively scarce. Furthermore, sequence reweighting allows assessing if individual structural contacts pertain to specific subfamilies and it thus paves the way for the identification specificity-determining contacts from sequence variation data. Global coevolutionary models of protein families have become increasingly popular due to their capacity to predict residue–residue contacts from sequence information, but also to predict fitness effects of amino acid substitutions or to infer protein–protein interactions. The central idea in these models is to construct a probability distribution, a Potts model, that reproduces single and pairwise frequencies of amino acids found in natural sequences of the protein family. This approach treats sequences from the family as independent samples, completely ignoring phylogenetic relations between them. This simplification is known to lead to potentially biased estimates of the parameters of the model, decreasing their biological relevance. Current workarounds for this problem, such as reweighting sequences, are poorly understood and not principled. Here, we propose an inference scheme that takes the phylogeny of a protein family into account in order to correct biases in estimating the frequencies of amino acids. Using artificial data, we show that a Potts model inferred using these corrected frequencies performs better in predicting contacts and fitness effect of mutations.
