Abstract

The uptake of cadmium by plants in contaminated soil was analyzed to assess the potential for the development of a cadmium uptake index. Cadmium uptake by lettuce exhibited a linear relationship with the levels of cadmium in soil. Furthermore, the levels of cadmium uptake significantly increased during the growing season. However, the uptake of cadmium by plants in contaminated soils is also dependent on the type of plant species.
