Abstract

We derive an analytical approximation for the gain of stressed quantum well lasers at low temperatures. This enables us to unify stress, thermal and spin relaxation effects in one model describing the polarization properties of VCSELs.

This paper studies the effect of a Kerr-type nonlinear defect in an anisotropic photonic crystal and shows the resulting polarisation bistability as well as different regimes of operation.
