The aim of the paper is to analyze how the historical depth of a change is a condition to establish a norm or a prescription in grammar. Besides that, the paper shows that positive or negative linguistic valorations are very labil concepts, which are conditioned of a combination of internal and external variables. This paper focuses on the impact that a standardized form of Spanish in current media may have on the Spanish-speaking people, especially in linguistic-contact situations in which media may be a crucial factor for both the growth and strength of a language, so that choosing a linguistic standard rather than another may become a major issue. It is concluded that a global, non-local Spanish standard, reflecting the current extension of the language, may serve both as a formal standard and as a learning device for bilingual speakers who lack total command of the language. The present paper studies the impact of the social and linguistic factors concerning the pronunciation of the postnuclear phoneme -/s/ in the district of Salamanca (Madrid). This area is traditionally characterized by its high socio-economic level. The research is based on material extracted from the corpus of Proyecto para el Estudio Sociolingüístico del Español de España y de América (PRESEEA). The results of this analysis can be compared with three other studies which were carried out in various areas of the Community of Madrid -Getafe, Alcalá de Henares and some rural municipalities in the northeast of the Community- in order to make generalisations about the Madrilean way of pronouncing the -/s/. This paper aims at studying, in a sociolinguistic perspective, the intervocalic use of the phoneme -/d/- in one of the districts of Madrid, Salamanca, which is traditionally characterized by its high socio-economic level and its "posh" form of speech. The research is based on material extracted from the corpus of Proyecto para el Estudio Sociolingüístico del Español de España y de América (PRESEEA). The results of this analysis can be compared with three other studies which were carried out in various areas of the Community of Madrid : Getafe, Alcalá de Henares and some rural municipalities in the northeast of the Community. Thus, we try to establish general remarks on the Madrilean way of speaking, which is popularly considered as the model of pronunciation due to the political and economical central position of the capital.
