This paper aims at studying, in a sociolinguistic perspective, the intervocalic use of the phoneme -/d/- in one of the districts of Madrid, Salamanca, which is traditionally characterized by its high socio-economic level and its "posh" form of speech. The research is based on material extracted from the corpus of Proyecto para el Estudio Sociolingüístico del Español de España y de América (PRESEEA). The results of this analysis can be compared with three other studies which were carried out in various areas of the Community of Madrid : Getafe, Alcalá de Henares and some rural municipalities in the northeast of the Community. Thus, we try to establish general remarks on the Madrilean way of speaking, which is popularly considered as the model of pronunciation due to the political and economical central position of the capital.
