- Abstract
The research aims to analyze how the grammatical genre has served as a tool to transpose the patterns and frontiers of the social genre, discussing the role of language in the construction and affirmation individual's identity. After analyzing linguistic concepts such as grammatical genre and markedness principle, besides definitions related to gender identity, a corpus of texts was compiled, taken from the social media Facebook, which served to identify and analyze the frequency of use of alternatives that neutralize the sexual gender. Taking as its motto the role of language as a tool for social transformation and as a research object the gender markedness, we resort to a theoretical approach that, besides focusing on grammar and morphological termination of gender (CUNHA e CINTRA, 1984; MATTOSO CÂMARA, 1985; CEGALLA, 2009), studies the functionalist principle of markedness (GIVON, 1995) and the use of social gender (LOURO, 2001; STERLING, 2002; BUTLER, 2003; LIVIA e HALL, 2010).
