serum vitamin-D levels and the likelihood of independent walking recovery in the year after hip fracture surgery. Methods.–Multicenter prospective study of 603 patients aged≥70 years, admitted to four ItalianHospitals forhip fracturewhowalked independently before the fracture. At admission, patients underwent multidimensional geriatric evaluation. They were evaluated after surgery at 3, 6, and 12 months by telephone interview. Probability of walking recovery (ability to walk independently) was evaluated as a function of serum vitamin-D distribution (tertiles), using multivariable logistic regression. Results.– The mean age was 85.4±0.2, and 75% were women. Median vitamin-D level was 9ng/ml (IQR 10.2ng/ml), 40% of patients had vitamin-D insufficiency, and 54% had deficiency. Vitamin-D level was inversely related to age (P=0.025), BADL difficulty (P=0.002), depressive symptoms (P
