Dens invaginatus (DI) is a rare congenital dental malformation characterized by enamel or cementum folded into dentine. Such teeth are susceptible to caries, pulp infection or necrosis and periradicular lesion. The complex anatomy of this disease results in difficult treatment and a high rate of therapeutic failure. Therapeutic options, such as debriding and filling invagination, root canal treatment (RCT) and intentional replantation, vary according to the morphology and infection of the involved tooth. The present study reports five cases of DI with chronic apical periodontitis. The treatment strategies and procedures, including RCT, removing the invagination, intentional replantation and surgical treatment, are discussed according to the classification and the condition of pulp and periapical tissue. The study also reports the prognosis: All patients were followed up for ≥12 months and all teeth demonstrated periapical healing and clinical asymptomatic. In summary, appropriate treatment is based on accurate analysis of the anatomical variation in different types of DI and intentional replantation is a reliable and viable treatment to preserve the tooth. The incidence of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is currently increasing. Early detection is important for the treatment and prognosis of patients with AMI. Heart-type fatty acid-binding protein (H-FABP) may be used as an early marker of AMI due to its high sensitivity, specificity and prognostic value. Therefore, in the present study, H-FABP was used as a biomarker in a double-antibody sandwich method and colloidal gold-based lateral flow immunoassay to develop a rapid detection kit for H-FABP with a processing time of only 5 min. The sensitivity of the kit in plasma and whole blood was 1 ng/ml and this method had good specificity, exhibiting no cross-reaction with cardiac troponin I, myoglobin or creatine kinase-Mb. The kits had good shelf life and stability, as they were able to be stored at 40˚C for 30 days. A total of 12 clinical samples were collected for detection and the coincidence rate with the ELISA method was up to 91.67%. Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is one of the most common types of malignant head and neck tumor, which poses a serious threat to human health. In recent years, the incidence of OSCC has been increasing, while the prognosis has not significantly improved. Elucidation of the molecular mechanisms underlying the development of OSCC may provide novel therapeutic strategies. In the present study, the gene expression profiles from 4 datasets, including 244 OSCC and 95 normal oral mucosa samples, were subjected to statistical and Bioinformatics analysis. A total of 34 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified, among which 14 were upregulated and 20 were downregulated in OSCC compared with normal oral mucosa tissues. Gene Ontology enrichment analysis indicated that the DEGs were mainly involved in regulation of the immune response, cell adhesion and cell proliferative processes. The Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway analysis revealed that the DEGs were mainly associated with the phosphoinositide-3 kinase Akt and Toll-like receptor signaling pathway. The key candidate DEGs were identified from the complex protein-protein interaction network, and secreted phosphoprotein 1 (SPP1), integrin subunit α 3 and plasminogen activator, urokinase (PLAU) were confirmed to be significantly associated with the survival rate. Cell Counting Kit-8 and Transwell assays demonstrated that SPP1 and PLAU regulate cell proliferation, migration and invasion. Thyroid cancer (THCA) is one of the commonest malignancies associated with increased recurrence. Therefore, identifying the putative molecular markers and therapeutic targets to improve the treatment of THCA is essential. The present study analyzed the potential role of tripartite motif-containing 21 (TRIM21), a member of the TRIM family belonging to the subfamily of E3 ubiquitin ligases, in the progression of THCA. Using bioinformatics analysis and immunohistochemistry of THCA tissues, it was observed that TRIM21 is overexpressed in THCA tissues. The present study also found that TRIM21 is associated with lymph node metastasis and high-risk recurrence of THCA. Furthermore, it identified a promotional role of TRIM21 in THCA cell migration and invasion. In addition, the present study analyzed TRIM21-enriched pathways and co-expressed genes in THCA.
