The effect of a long-term (14 days) combined introduction of mestranol and noiethinodrel in contraceptive doses on the activity of pentosophosphate routes enzymes of the carbohydrates metabolism, that of acid and basic ribonucleases and on the level of summary nucleinic acids in the uterus and liver in sexually mature female-rats was studied. It was found that the concentration of summary nucleinic acids in the tissues increases under the effect of the drug, the oxidative reactions enzymes become more active, while the activity of non-oxidative reactions enzymes of the pentosophosphate route and of acid and basic endoribonucleases in inhibited.

Thrombin inhibits the rate of glucose-6-phosphate and 6-phosphogluconate oxidation. ADP decreases the incorporation of ribose-5-phosphate into metabolism. The effect of adrenaline on the pentose phosphate pathway reactions was not demonstrated. Cell destruction by means of freezing, thawing and treatment with Triton X-100 decreases the rate of the glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase reaction to a greater degree as compared with osmotic shock.

Treatment with roxicam, rengasil and flugalin tended significantly to normalize the activity of enzymes of carbohydrate metabolism pentosophosphate pathway in the blood of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis. The dynamics of the change in the activity of enzymes of pentose phosphate pathway in the blood of patients with systemic connective tissue diseases against the background of treatment with roxicam, rengasil and flugalin is the enzymological criterion in assessing efficacy of pharmacological correction of the inflammatory process in the diseases.
