It is known that Z p s -linear codes, which are the Gray map image of Z p s -additive codes (linear codes over Z p s ), are systematic and a systematic encoding has been found. This makes Z p s -linear codes suitable to apply the permutation decoding method. This technique is also based on the existence of r -PD-sets, which are subsets of the permutation automorphism group of the code. In this paper, we study the permutation automorphism group of Z p s -linear generalized Hadamard codes of type (n ; t 1 , ... , t s) and show how to construct r -PD-sets of size r + 1 , for all r up to an upper bound, in order to be able to perform a partial permutation decoding for these codes. Cyclic codes are an interesting type of linear codes and have wide applications in communication and storage systems due to their efficient encoding and decoding algorithms. Inspired by the recent work on binary cyclic codes published in Tang and Ding (2022) [26] and the works in Liu et al. (2023) [15] and Liu et al. (2023) [16] , the objectives of this paper are the construction and analysis of four infinite families of ternary cyclic codes with length n = 3 m − 1 for odd m and dimension k ∈ { n / 2 , (n + 2) / 2 } whose minimum distances have a square-root-like lower bound. Their duals have parameters [ n , k ⊥ , d ⊥ ] , where k ⊥ ∈ { n / 2 , (n − 2) / 2 } and d ⊥ also has a square-root-like lower bound. In this paper, by analyzing the solutions of certain equations over finite fields, we present four classes of optimal p -ary cyclic codes C (1 , e , s) with parameters [ p m − 1 , p m − 2 m − 2 , 4 ]. Some known results on optimal quinary cyclic codes with parameters [ 5 m − 1 , 5 m − 2 m − 2 , 4 ] are special cases of our constructions. Cyclic codes are a subclass of linear codes and have applications in consumer electronics, data storage systems and communication systems as they have efficient encoding and decoding algorithms. In 2013, Ding, et al. presented nine open problems about optimal ternary cyclic codes. The first two and the 6th problems were completely solved, and the third and last three problems were partially solved. In this paper, we focus on the 7th problem. By determining the root set of some special polynomials over finite fields, we give an incomplete answer and then present a counterexample. Our aim is the design of an efficient decoding algorithm in group codes. The algorithm is inspired by the well known syndrome decoding algorithm for linear codes and uses the decomposition of a semisimple group algebra K G as a direct sum of two-sided ideals, each of them generated by a central idempotent of K G. The use of skew polynomial rings allows to endow linear codes with cyclic structures which are not cyclic in the classical (commutative) sense. Whenever these skew cyclic structures are carefully chosen, some control over the Hamming distance is gained, and it is possible to design efficient decoding algorithms. In this paper, we give a version of the Hartmann–Tzeng bound that works for a wide class of skew cyclic codes. We also provide a practical method for constructing them with designed distance. For skew BCH codes, which are covered by our constructions, we discuss decoding algorithms. Detailed examples illustrate both the theory as the constructive methods it supports. Abstract: We show that the Feng–Rao bound for dual codes and a similar bound by Andersen and Geil (2008) [1] for primary codes are consequences of each other. This implies that the Feng–Rao decoding algorithm can be applied to decode primary codes up to half their designed minimum distance. The technique applies to any linear code for which information on well-behaving pairs is available. Consequently we are able to decode efficiently a large class of codes for which no non-trivial decoding algorithm was previously known. Among those are important families of multivariate polynomial codes. Matsumoto and Miura (2000) [30] (see also Beelen and Høholdt, 2008 [3]) derived from the Feng–Rao bound a bound for primary one-point algebraic geometric codes and showed how to decode up to what is guaranteed by their bound. The exposition in Matsumoto and Miura (2000) [30] requires the use of differentials which was not needed in Andersen and Geil (2008) [1]. Nevertheless we demonstrate a very strong connection between Matsumoto and Miuraʼs bound and Andersen and Geilʼs bound when applied to primary one-point algebraic geometric codes. The objective of this paper is to investigate the parameters of some q -ary cyclic codes of length n = q 2 m − 1 q + 1. The dimensions of these codes are settled and the lower bounds on their minimum distances are presented by employing the Hartmann-Tzeng bound or BCH bound.
