The aim of this study is to analyze the effects of game-based applications in secondary education through the mixed-meta method. For this purpose, a total of 13 quantitative and qualitative studies conducted between the years 2004 and 2019 and accessed from different databases were analyzed. In the quantitative (meta-analysis) dimension of the study, the effect of game-based applications on academic achievement in secondary education was examined while the effect of these activities on social-affective and academic field in the qualitative (meta-thematic analysis) one. The meta-analyses were made with the CMA and MetaWin programs and it was determined that game-based applications contributed positively to academic success. The data obtained in the meta-thematic analysis process were analyzed with content analysis using the Maxqda program. In the analysis, it was determined that gamebased applications support students' active participation, enable them to have meaningful and permanent learning experiences, and therefore increase their academic success. In addition students' social and emotional developments were affected positively. In this context, it is predicted that presenting the effects of game-based applications in secondary education through the mixed-meta method will benefit the literature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
