The article focuses on the growing electric consumption in the U.S. since 1920 and looks at what utilities have been doing to address the increasing demand. Given the doubling of consumption by 1927, utilities are expected to add generating capacity totaling to some 106,000,000 kilowatt in 1954. Since 1934, the power business is reported to be gaining new customers at a rate of more than 1,500,000 a year. Early in 1954, there were 50,000,000 customers who signed up for the electric utilities.
