Introduction: Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a metabolic disease characterized by insulin deficiency and subsequent hyperglycemia. Cardiovascular diseases are the prime cause of mortality and morbidity among patients with T1D. Accumulating metabolic disturbances and accelerated cardiac fibrosis fuel the development of heart dysfunction. As insulin resistance (IR) is a risk factor for the development and worsened course of heart failure, this study aimed to assess its impact on heart function in patients with T1D. Methods: Adult participants were recruited prospectively. The inclusion criteria included a diagnosis of T1D. The exclusion criteria were other types of diabetes, symptoms/treatment of heart failure, AST and/or ALT exceeding the upper reference limit by ≥2x, hepatitis, alcoholism, metformin treatment, and pregnancy. The participants underwent a medical interview, physical examination, biochemical test, and echocardiography. Results: The mean age in the study group was 38 ± 9.6 years, and the mean diabetes duration was 21.8 ± 11.3 years. The median BMI in the study cohort was 23.39 kg/m2. Patients with IR had significantly lower mitral E/A ratio and left ventricular and left atrial volume ratio (LVLAVR), higher LV mass index, and presented with altered mitral annular velocities. Background: Cardiometabolic multimorbidity (CMM) has emerged as a prominent public health concern. Hypertensive patients are prone to develop comorbidities. Moreover, the accumulation of visceral adipose tissue is the main cause for the development of cardiometabolic diseases. The cardiometabolic index (CMI), lipid accumulation product (LAP), visceral adiposity index (VAI), and Chinese visceral adiposity index (CVAI) not only assess adipose tissue mass but also reflect adipose tissue dysfunction. So far, no study has been reported to evaluate the association of CMI, LAP, VAI, and CVAI with CMM risk in hypertensive patients. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the association between these adiposity indicators and the risk of CMM among Chinese hypertensive patients. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, a total of 229,287 hypertensive patients aged 35 years and older were included from the National Basic Public Health Service Project. All participants underwent a face-to-face questionnaire survey, physical examination, and the collection of fasting venous blood samples. Multivariable logistic regression models were performed to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Receiver operating characteristic curve was utilized to evaluate the identification ability for CMM. Results: After adjusting for confounders, each 1-standard deviation increase in CMI, LAP, VAI, and CVAI was associated with a 14%, 8%, 12%, and 54% increased risk of CMM, respectively. When comparing the highest quartile of these indicators with the lowest quartile, individuals in the highest quartile of CMM, LAP, VAI, and CVAI had a 1.39-fold (95% CI 1.30, 1.48), 1.28-fold (95% CI 1.19, 1.37), 1.37-fold (95% CI 1.29, 1.46), and 2.56-fold (95% CI 2.34, 2.79) increased risk of CMM after adjusting for potential confounders. Notably, a nonlinear association was observed for CMI, LAP, and VAI with the risk of CMM (all P nonlinearity < 0.001). CVAI exhibited the highest area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) among all the included adiposity indices in this analysis. Conclusion: This study indicated the significant positive association of CMI, LAP, VAI, and CVAI with the risk of CMM in hypertensive patients. Among these indicators, CVAI demonstrated the most robust performance in predicting CMM risk and may serve as a valuable tool for identifying CMM risk in Chinese hypertensive patients. Objective: To explore the correlation of lipid accumulation product (LAP) with metabolic syndrome (MS) and to assess the predictive value of LAP for MS risk in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) with different body mass index (BMI). Methods: A total of 242 PCOS patients and 150 controls were recruited and divided into normal-weight, overweight, and obese groups, then further divided into MS and without MS subgroups. Clinical and anthropometric variables and laboratory results were recorded. LAP was calculated from waist circumference (WC) and triglyceride using sex-specific formulae. Logistic regression analysis and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve were applied to determine and analyze the predictive value of LAP for MS. Results: The prevalence of MS among PCOS patients was 45.04%, which was significantly higher than that of the controls (10%). Stratified by BMI, the incidence of MS in the normal-weight, overweight, and obese PCOS groups were 15.58%, 41.43%, and 71.58%, respectively. Logistic regression analysis indicated that LAP was an independent risk factor for MS in both normal-weight and overweight groups; however, the results were not significant in the obese group. ROC curve analysis showed that LAP had an outstanding discrimination index for MS in normal-weight (AUC=0.960, cut-off value=42.5) and overweight (AUC=0.937, cut-off value=47.93) PCOS patients, with a sensitivity of 0.917/0.931 (normal-weight/overweight) and a specificity of 0.969/0.854 (normal-weight/overweight), respectively. Conclusion: Normal-weight and overweight PCOS patients also have a fairly high incidence of MS and should receive as much attention as obese patients. Compared to applying multiple clinical indicators, LAP is more convenient and facilitates acquiring early and accurate diagnoses of MS among non-obese PCOS patients using fewer MS markers. Background: There is insufficient attention to hypogonadism in Chinese males with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). We evaluated the relationship between Combined obesity- and lipid-related indices [Visceral Adiposity Index (VAI), Chinese Visceral Adiposity Index (CVAI), Triglyceride Glucose Index (TyG) and Lipid Accumulation Product (LAP)] with total testosterone (TT) and analyzed the predictive capability of the respective cut-off values. Methods: We recruited 958 hospitalized male patients with T2DM at the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University, collected baseline data and four calculated indices, and obtained their dominance ratio (OR) and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CI) with TT by multivariate logistic regression. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were then used to determine cutoff values in predicting hypogonadism (TT< 12 nmol/L), and we also analyzed the combinations between the different indices. Results: VAI, CVAI, TyG, and LAP all have satisfactory predictive capabilities. The test capability (sensitivity and specificity) of all four indices was better or not worse than that of body mass index (BMI), homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) and waist circumference (WC). All four indices were effective predictors of hypogonadism at their respective cutoff values (VAI = 2.284, CVAI = 145.779, TyG = 4.308, and LAP = 59.850). Of these, LAP had the largest area under the curve (AUC, AUC = 0.852, Std. Error = 0.014, 95% CI = 0.818-0.873). However, the predictive capability of the combined indices was not significantly improved over the individual indices. Conclusions: VAI, CVAI, TyG, and LAP are sensitive indices for predicting hypogonadism in Chinese male patients with T2DM. Background: Many studies have confirmed that lipid accumulation products (LAP) predict arterial stiffness (AS) in hypertensive patients. But there is little research on the use of LAP in identifying early atherosclerosis in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between the LAP index and brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) in Chinese patients with T2DM. Methods: A total of 1471 Chinese participants with T2DM, ranging in age from 18 to 80, were included in this cross-sectional study. BaPWV measurements were used to calculate the AS. A baPWV greater than the 75th percentile (1700 cm/s) was defined as indicating increased AS. The LAP index was calculated from the combination of waist circumference (WC) and triglycerides (TG). Results: According to the quartiles of the LAP index, baPWV tended to increase after adjusting for sex and age. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that the beta coefficient (β) of baPWV increased by 31.0 cm/s for each unit of lnLAP that was increased, and the 95% confidence interval (CI) was (6.5, 55.5) cm/s. In multivariate logistic regression analyses, after fully adjusting for confounders, the risk of elevated baPWV increased with each unit increase in lnLAP, with an odds ratio (OR) of 1.3 (95% CI: 1.0, 1.8). According to the generalized additive model (GAM), we found that lnLAP was positively correlated with baPWV and baPWV elevation. The results were the same for males and females. Subgroup analyses showed that the positive correlation between lnLAP and elevated baPWV did not interact across all subgroups. Background and aims: Obesity is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease development. Here, we aimed to examine and compare the predictive values of three novel obesity indices, lipid accumulation product (LAP), visceral adiposity index (VAI), and triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, for cardiovascular subclinical organ damage. Methods: A total of 1,773 healthy individuals from the Hanzhong Adolescent Hypertension Study cohort were enrolled. Anthropometric, biochemical, urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (uACR), brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV), and Cornell voltage-duration product data were collected. Furthermore, the potential risk factors for subclinical organ damage were investigated, with particular emphasis on examining the predictive value of the LAP, VAI, and TyG index for detecting subclinical organ damage. Results: LAP, VAI, and TyG index exhibited a significant positive association with baPWV and uACR. However, only LAP and VAI were found to have a positive correlation with Cornell product. While the three indices did not show an association with electrocardiographic left ventricular hypertrophy, higher values of LAP and TyG index were significantly associated with an increased risk of arterial stiffness and albuminuria. Furthermore, after dividing the population into quartiles, the fourth quartiles of LAP and TyG index showed a significant association with arterial stiffness and albuminuria when compared with the first quartiles, in both unadjusted and fully adjusted models. Additionally, the concordance index (C-index) values for LAP, VAI, and TyG index were reasonably high for arterial stiffness (0.856, 0.856, and 0.857, respectively) and albuminuria (0.739, 0.737, and 0.746, respectively). Lastly, the analyses of continuous net reclassification improvement (NRI) and integrated discrimination improvement (IDI) demonstrated that the TyG index exhibited significantly higher predictive values for arterial stiffness and albuminuria compared with LAP and VAI. Conclusion: LAP, VAI, and, especially, TyG index demonstrated utility in screening cardiovascular subclinical organ damage among Chinese adults in this community-based sample. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the relation between the lipid accumulation product index (LAPI) and diabetic kidney disease (DKD) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods: Herein, 931 patients were enrolled and their data were collected. Then the interrelation between LAPI and DKD was assessed using multivariate logistic regression analyses (LRAs) and by a restricted cubic spline (RCS). Results: In total, 931 participants (352 females and 579 males) aged 55 years on average were included in the study. After adjusting for several confounders, the odds ratio for DKD was increased evidently in the third LAPI tertile compared with that in the first LAPI tertile. In addition, the RCS revealed a positive interrelation between LAPI and DKD. In the subgroup analyses, age, sex, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and HbA1c did not significantly interact with LAPI. Conclusions: LAPI was higher in the DKD group than in the no-DKD group, and LAPI is positively linked with DKD, which may have potential value to diagnose DKD in clinical practice. Aim: Confirm and compare the degree of associations of non-traditional lipid profiles and metabolic syndrome (MetS) in Chinese adolescents, determine the lipid parameter with better predictive potential, and investigate their discriminatory power on MetS. Methods: Medical measurements, including anthropometric measurements and biochemical blood tests, were undergone among a total sample of 1112 adolescents (564 boys and 548 girls) aged from 13 to 18 years. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were applied for assessing the relationships between the levels of traditional/non-traditional lipid profiles and MetS. We performed Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) analyses to mensurate the effectiveness of lipid accumulation product (LAP) on the diagnosis of MetS. Meanwhile, areas under the ROC curve and the cut-off values were calculated for MetS and its components. Results: Univariate analysis showed that all our lipid profiles were closely associated with MetS (P< 0.05). LAP index showed the closest association with MetS than the other lipid profiles. Additionally, ROC analyses indicated that the LAP index showed sufficient capabilities to identify adolescents with MetS and its components. Background: Diabetes has become a global public health problem. Obesity has been established as a risk factor for diabetes. However, it remains unclear which of the obesity indicators (BMI, WC, WhtR, ABSI, BRI, LAP, VAI) is more appropriate for monitoring diabetes. Therefore, the objective of this investigation is to compare the strength of the association of these indicators and diabetes and reveal the relationship between LAP and diabetes. Methods: 15,252 people took part in this research. LAP was quartered and COX proportional risk model was applied to explore the relationship between LAP and new-onset diabetes. Smooth curve fitting was employed to investigate the nonlinear link between LAP and diabetes mellitus. Finally, the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to evaluate the predictive ability of the aforementioned indicators for diabetes. Results: After adjusting for confounding factors, multiple linear regression analysis showed that each unit increase in LAP was associated with a 76.8% increase in the risk of developing diabetes (HR=1.768, 95% CI: 1.139 to 2.746, P=0.011). In addition, LAP predicted new-onset diabetes better than other indicators, and the AUC was the largest [HR: 0.713, 95% CI: 0.6806-0.7454, P<0.001, in women; HR: 0.7922, 95% CI: 0.7396-0.8447; P<0.001, in men]. When LAP was used as a lone predictor, its AUC area was largest both men and women. However, after adding classical predictors (FPG, HbA1c, SBP, exercise, age) to the model, the LAP is better than the ABSI, but not better than the other indicators when compared in pairs. Conclusions: High levels of LAP correlate very strongly with diabetes and are an important risk factor for diabetes, especially in women, those with fatty liver and current smokers. LAP was superior to other indicators when screening for diabetes susceptibility using a single indicator of obesity, both in men and in women. Objectives: Obesity measurement indexes have certain screening value for metabolic diseases. To investigate associations between metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) and obesity measurement indexes, including traditional indexes (BMI, WC, WHtR) and new indexes (ABSI, BRI, VAI, LAP), and assess their screening ability. Methods: 12,658 subjects aged 18-75 at the Health Center of a Class III Grade A Hospital were included, who were divided into MAFLD and non-MAFLD groups. Spearman’s rank correlation was used to study the correlation between MAFLD and obesity measurement indexes. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to calculate the area under the curve (AUC) to evaluate their screening accuracy. Results: MAFLD had strong correlation with traditional BMI and new index LAP. ROC analysis showed that BMI had the highest AUC (0.89), followed by LAP (0.87). Stratification by BMI, LAP had the highest AUC (0.90) for MAFLD in population without obesity (BMI< 23kg/m2 ), and its optimal cutoff value was 20.75, with a sensitivity and specificity of 85.9% and 79.0%, respectively. Conclusions: We proposed a two-step screening strategy for MAFLD, combining BMI and LAP, and defined a high-risk population for MAFLD as follows: 1) BMI ≥ 23 kg/m2 ; and 2) BMI< 23 kg/m2 and LAP ≥ 20.75. Introduction: Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD), formerly known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), has become the most common chronic liver disease worldwide. We aimed to explore the genderrelated association between nine indexes (BMI/WC/VAI/LAP/WHtR/TyG/TyG-BMI/TyG-WC/TyG-WHtR) and MAFLD/NAFLD and examine their diagnostic utility for these conditions. Methods: Eligible participants were screened from the 2017-2018 cycle data of National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Logistic regression and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve were used to assess the predictive performance of 9 indexes for MAFLD/NAFLD. Results: Among the 809 eligible individuals, 478 had MAFLD and 499 had NAFLD. After adjusting for gender, age, ethnicity, FIPR and education level, positive associations with the risk of MAFLD/NAFLD were found for all the nine indexes. For female, TyG-WHtR presented the best performance in identifying MAFLD/NAFLD, with AUC of 0.845 (95% CI = 0.806-0.879) and 0.831 (95% CI = 0.791-0.867) respectively. For male, TyG-WC presented the best performance in identifying MAFLD/NAFLD, with AUC of 0.900 (95% CI = 0.867-0.927) and 0.855 (95% CI = 0.817-0.888) respectively. Background and objective: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is an important risk factor for cardiovascular complications and kidney damage. Obesity- and lipidrelated indices are closely related to MetS, and different indices have different predictive abilities for MetS. This study aimed to evaluate the predictive value of eight obesity- and lipid-related indicators, namely, body mass index (BMI), lipid accumulation product (LAP), body roundness index (BRI), Chinese visceral adiposity index (CVAI), body adiposity index (BAI), abdominal volume index (AVI), triglyceride glucose index (TYG), and visceral adiposity index (VAI), for MetS. Methods: A total of 1,452 relatively healthy people in Beijing were enrolled in 2016, and the correlation between the eight indicators and MetS was analyzed by multivariate logistic regression. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and the area under the curve (AUC) were used to analyze the predictive ability of the eight indicators for MetS. The Delong test was used to compare the AUC values of the eight indicators. MetS was defined according to the Chinese Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes (2020 edition), the revised National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Group (NCEP-ATPIII), and the International Diabetes Federation (IDF). Results: Using these three sets of criteria, LAP, TYG, CVAI, and VAI, which are based on blood lipids, had higher AUC values for MetS prediction than BMI, BRI, AVI, and BAI, which are based on anthropometry. LAP had the highest AUC values of 0.893 (0.874-0.912), 0.886 (0.869-0.903), and 0.882 (0.864-0.899), separately, based on the three sets of criteria. ObjectiveMetabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) affects 25% of the population without approved drug therapy. According to the latest consensus, MAFLD is divided into three subgroups based on different diagnostic modalities, including Obesity, Lean, and Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) MAFLD subgroups. This study aimed to find out the optimum non-invasive metabolism-related indicators to respectively predict MAFLD and its subgroups.Design1058 Chinese participants were enrolled in this study. Anthropometric measurements, laboratory data, and ultrasonography features were collected. 22 metabolism-related indexes were calculated, including fatty liver index (FLI), lipid accumulation product (LAP), waist circumference-triglyceride index (WTI), etc. Logistic regression analyzed the correlation between indexes and MAFLD. Receiver operating characteristics were conducted to compare predictive values among 22 indicators for screening the best indicators to predict MAFLD in different subgroups.ResultsFLI was the best predictor with the maximum odds ratio (OR) values of overall MAFLD (OR: 6.712, 95%CI: 4.766-9.452, area under the curve (AUC): 0.879, P < 0.05) and T2DM MAFLD subgroup (OR: 14.725, 95%CI: 3.712-58.420, AUC: 0.958, P < 0.05). LAP was the best predictor with the maximum OR value of Obesity MAFLD subgroup (OR: 2.689, 95%CI: 2.182-3.313, AUC: 0.796, P < 0.05). WTI was the best predictor with the maximum OR values of Lean MAFLD subgroup (OR: 3.512, 95%CI: 2.286-5.395, AUC: 0.920, P < 0.05).ConclusionThe best predictors of overall MAFLD, Obesity, Lean, and T2DM MAFLD subgroups were respectively FLI, LAP, WTI, and FLI.

Background: To compare the efficacy of lipid accumulation product (LAP) and urine glucose excretion (UGE) in predicting diabetes and evaluate whether the combination of LAP and UGE would help to improve the efficacy of using LAP alone or UGE alone in identifying diabetes. Methods: Data from 7485 individuals without prior history of diabetes who participated in a cross-sectional survey in Jiangsu, China, were analyzed. Each participant underwent an oral glucose-tolerance test. Operating characteristic curves (ROC) and logistic regression analyses were used to evaluate the performance of LAP and UGE in identification of newly diagnosed diabetes (NDM) and prediabetes (PDM). Results: For subjects with NDM, the area under the ROC curve was 0.72 for LAP and 0.85 for UGE, whereas for PDM, these values were 0.62 and 0.61, respectively. Furthermore, LAP exhibited a comparable sensitivity with UGE in detecting NDM (76.4% vs 76.2%, p = 0.31). In predicting PDM, LAP showed a higher sensitivity than UGE (66.4% vs 42.8%, p < 0.05). The combination of LAP and UGE demonstrated a significantly higher sensitivity than that of LAP alone and UGE alone for identification of NDM (93.6%) and PDM (80.1%). Moreover, individuals with both high LAP and high UGE had significantly increased risk of NDM and PDM than those with both low LAP and low UGE. Conclusions: The combination of LAP and UGE substantially improved the efficacy of using LAP and using UGE alone in detecting diabetes, and may be a novel approach for mass screening in the general population. The study aims to investigate the performance of visceral adiposity index (VAI) and lipid accumulation product (LAP) of MetS in young adults. Methods: 448 young adults aged between 19 and 24 years old in Qinhuangdao had been included in this cross-sectional study. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analyses were used to assess the accuracy of these two obesity indicators for MetS. Results: The prevalence of MetS was 2.0%. In male subjects, LAP had the highest area under the ROC curve (AUC) value (AUC = 0.963), followed by VAI (AUC = 0.937). In female subjects, LAP also had the highest AUC value (AUC = 0.931), followed by VAI (AUC = 0.861). No significant difference was found between the two obesity indicators (P > 0.05). Operating characteristic curves (ROC) and logistic regression analyses were used to evaluate the performance of LAP and UGE in identification of newly diagnosed diabetes (NDM) and prediabetes (PDM).ResultsFor subjects with NDM, the area under the ROC curve was 0.72 for LAP and 0.85 for UGE, whereas for PDM, these values were 0.62 and 0.61, respectively. Furthermore, LAP exhibited a comparable sensitivity with UGE in detecting NDM (76.4% vs 76.2%, p = 0.31). In predicting PDM, LAP showed a higher sensitivity than UGE (66.4% vs 42.8%, p < 0.05). The combination of LAP and UGE demonstrated a significantly higher sensitivity than that of LAP alone and UGE alone for identification of NDM (93.6%) and PDM (80.1%). Moreover, individuals with both high LAP and high UGE had significantly increased risk of NDM and PDM than those with both low LAP and low UGE.ConclusionsThe combination of LAP and UGE substantially improved the efficacy of using LAP and using UGE alone in detecting diabetes, and may be a novel approach for mass screening in the general population.

BackgroundMetabolic syndrome (MetS) is a pathophysiological change based on the abnormal metabolism of many substances. The study aims to investigate the performance of visceral adiposity index (VAI) and lipid accumulation product (LAP) of MetS in young adults.Methods448 young adults aged between 19 and 24 years old in Qinhuangdao had been included in this cross-sectional study. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analyses were used to assess the accuracy of these two obesity indicators for MetS.ResultsThe prevalence of MetS was 2.0%. In male subjects, LAP had the highest area under the ROC curve (AUC) value (AUC = 0.963), followed by VAI (AUC = 0.937). In female subjects, LAP also had the highest AUC value (AUC = 0.931), followed by VAI (AUC = 0.861). No significant difference was found between the two obesity indicators (P > 0.05).ConclusionThe two obesity indicators were valuable for the screening of MetS in young adults, and LAP was the simpler of the two.

Background: Cardiometabolic multimorbidity (CMM) has emerged as a prominent public health concern. Hypertensive patients are prone to develop comorbidities. Moreover, the accumulation of visceral adipose tissue is the main cause for the development of cardiometabolic diseases. The cardiometabolic index (CMI), lipid accumulation product (LAP), visceral adiposity index (VAI), and Chinese visceral adiposity index (CVAI) not only assess adipose tissue mass but also reflect adipose tissue dysfunction. So far, no study has been reported to evaluate the association of CMI, LAP, VAI, and CVAI with CMM risk in hypertensive patients. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the association between these adiposity indicators and the risk of CMM among Chinese hypertensive patients., Methods: In this cross-sectional study, a total of 229,287 hypertensive patients aged 35 years and older were included from the National Basic Public Health Service Project. All participants underwent a face-to-face questionnaire survey, physical examination, and the collection of fasting venous blood samples. Multivariable logistic regression models were performed to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Receiver operating characteristic curve was utilized to evaluate the identification ability for CMM., Results: After adjusting for confounders, each 1-standard deviation increase in CMI, LAP, VAI, and CVAI was associated with a 14%, 8%, 12%, and 54% increased risk of CMM, respectively. When comparing the highest quartile of these indicators with the lowest quartile, individuals in the highest quartile of CMM, LAP, VAI, and CVAI had a 1.39-fold (95% CI 1.30, 1.48), 1.28-fold (95% CI 1.19, 1.37), 1.37-fold (95% CI 1.29, 1.46), and 2.56-fold (95% CI 2.34, 2.79) increased risk of CMM after adjusting for potential confounders. Notably, a nonlinear association was observed for CMI, LAP, and VAI with the risk of CMM (all P nonlinearity < 0.001). CVAI exhibited the highest area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) among all the included adiposity indices in this analysis., Conclusion: This study indicated the significant positive association of CMI, LAP, VAI, and CVAI with the risk of CMM in hypertensive patients. Background: There were seven novel and easily accessed insulin resistance (IR) surrogates established, including the Chinese visceral adiposity index (CVAI), the visceral adiposity index (VAI), lipid accumulation product (LAP), triglyceride glucose (TyG) index, TyG-body mass index (TyG-BMI), TyG-waist circumference (TyG-WC) and TyG-waist to height ratio (TyG-WHtR). We aimed to explore the association between the seven IR surrogates and incident coronary heart disease (CHD), and to compare their predictive powers among Chinese population., Methods: This is a 10-year prospective cohort study conducted in China including 6393 participants without cardiovascular disease (CVD) at baseline. We developed Cox regression analyses to examine the association of IR surrogates with CHD (hazard ratio [HR], 95% confidence intervals [CI]). Moreover, the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was performed to compare the predictive values of these indexes for incident CHD by the areas under the ROC curve (AUC)., Results: During a median follow-up period of 10.25 years, 246 individuals newly developed CHD. Significant associations of the IR surrogates (excepted for VAI) with incident CHD were found in our study after fully adjustment, and the fifth quintile HRs (95% CIs) for incident CHD were respectively 2.055(1.216-3.473), 1.446(0.948-2.205), 1.753(1.099-2.795), 2.013(1.214-3.339), 3.169(1.926-5.214), 2.275(1.391-3.719) and 2.309(1.419-3.759) for CVAI, VAI, LAP, TyG, TyG-BMI, TyG-WC and TyG-WHtR, compared with quintile 1. Objective: To explore the correlation of lipid accumulation product (LAP) with metabolic syndrome (MS) and to assess the predictive value of LAP for MS risk in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) with different body mass index (BMI)., Methods: A total of 242 PCOS patients and 150 controls were recruited and divided into normal-weight, overweight, and obese groups, then further divided into MS and without MS subgroups. Clinical and anthropometric variables and laboratory results were recorded. LAP was calculated from waist circumference (WC) and triglyceride using sex-specific formulae. Logistic regression analysis and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve were applied to determine and analyze the predictive value of LAP for MS., Results: The prevalence of MS among PCOS patients was 45.04%, which was significantly higher than that of the controls (10%). Stratified by BMI, the incidence of MS in the normal-weight, overweight, and obese PCOS groups were 15.58%, 41.43%, and 71.58%, respectively. Logistic regression analysis indicated that LAP was an independent risk factor for MS in both normal-weight and overweight groups; however, the results were not significant in the obese group. ROC curve analysis showed that LAP had an outstanding discrimination index for MS in normal-weight (AUC=0.960, cut-off value=42.5) and overweight (AUC=0.937, cut-off value=47.93) PCOS patients, with a sensitivity of 0.917/0.931 (normal-weight/overweight) and a specificity of 0.969/0.854 (normal-weight/overweight), respectively., Conclusion: Normal-weight and overweight PCOS patients also have a fairly high incidence of MS and should receive as much attention as obese patients. Background: There is insufficient attention to hypogonadism in Chinese males with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). We evaluated the relationship between Combined obesity- and lipid-related indices [Visceral Adiposity Index (VAI), Chinese Visceral Adiposity Index (CVAI), Triglyceride Glucose Index (TyG) and Lipid Accumulation Product (LAP)] with total testosterone (TT) and analyzed the predictive capability of the respective cut-off values., Methods: We recruited 958 hospitalized male patients with T2DM at the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University, collected baseline data and four calculated indices, and obtained their dominance ratio (OR) and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CI) with TT by multivariate logistic regression. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were then used to determine cutoff values in predicting hypogonadism (TT< 12 nmol/L), and we also analyzed the combinations between the different indices., Results: VAI, CVAI, TyG, and LAP all have satisfactory predictive capabilities. The test capability (sensitivity and specificity) of all four indices was better or not worse than that of body mass index (BMI), homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) and waist circumference (WC). All four indices were effective predictors of hypogonadism at their respective cutoff values (VAI ≥ 2.284, CVAI ≥ 145.779, TyG ≥ 4.308, and LAP ≥ 59.850). Of these, LAP had the largest area under the curve (AUC, AUC = 0.852, Std. Error = 0.014, 95% CI = 0.818-0.873). However, the predictive capability of the combined indices was not significantly improved over the individual indices., Conclusions: VAI, CVAI, TyG, and LAP are sensitive indices for predicting hypogonadism in Chinese male patients with T2DM. Background: Many studies have confirmed that lipid accumulation products (LAP) predict arterial stiffness (AS) in hypertensive patients. But there is little research on the use of LAP in identifying early atherosclerosis in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between the LAP index and brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) in Chinese patients with T2DM., Methods: A total of 1471 Chinese participants with T2DM, ranging in age from 18 to 80, were included in this cross-sectional study. BaPWV measurements were used to calculate the AS. A baPWV greater than the 75th percentile (1700 cm/s) was defined as indicating increased AS. The LAP index was calculated from the combination of waist circumference (WC) and triglycerides (TG)., Results: According to the quartiles of the LAP index, baPWV tended to increase after adjusting for sex and age. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that the beta coefficient (β) of baPWV increased by 31.0 cm/s for each unit of lnLAP that was increased, and the 95% confidence interval (CI) was (6.5, 55.5) cm/s. In multivariate logistic regression analyses, after fully adjusting for confounders, the risk of elevated baPWV increased with each unit increase in lnLAP, with an odds ratio (OR) of 1.3 (95% CI: 1.0, 1.8). According to the generalized additive model (GAM), we found that lnLAP was positively correlated with baPWV and baPWV elevation. The results were the same for males and females. Objective: The increasing prevalence of diabetes is strongly associated with visceral adipose tissue (VAT), and gender differences in VAT remarkably affect the risk of developing diabetes. This study aimed to assess the predictive significance of lipid accumulation products (LAP) for the future onset of diabetes from a gender perspective., Methods: A total of 8,430 male and 7,034 female non-diabetic participants in the NAGALA (NAfld in the Gifu Area, Longitudinal Analysis) program were included. The ability of LAP to assess the risk of future new-onset diabetes in both genders was analyzed using multivariate Cox regression. Subgroup analysis was conducted to explore the impact of potential modifiers on the association between LAP and diabetes. Additionally, time-dependent receiver operator characteristics (ROC) curves were used to assess the predictive power of LAP in both genders for new-onset diabetes over the next 2-12 years., Results: Over an average follow-up of 6.13 years (maximum 13.14 years), 373 participants developed diabetes. Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed a significant gender difference in the association between LAP and future diabetes risk ( P -interaction<0.05): the risk of diabetes associated with LAP was greater in females than males [hazard ratios (HRs) per standard deviation (SD) increase: male 1.20 (1.10, 1.30) vs female 1.35 (1.11, 1.64)]. Subgroup analysis revealed no significant modifying effect of factors such as age, body mass index (BMI), smoking history, drinking history, exercise habits, and fatty liver on the risk of diabetes associated with LAP (All P -interaction <0.05). Time-dependent ROC analysis showed that LAP had greater accuracy in predicting diabetes events occurring within the next 2-12 years in females than males with more consistent predictive thresholds in females., Conclusions: This study highlighted a significant gender difference in the association between LAP and future diabetes risk. The risk of diabetes associated with LAP was greater in females than in males. Background and Aims: Obesity is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease development. Here, we aimed to examine and compare the predictive values of three novel obesity indices, lipid accumulation product (LAP), visceral adiposity index (VAI), and triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, for cardiovascular subclinical organ damage., Methods: A total of 1,773 healthy individuals from the Hanzhong Adolescent Hypertension Study cohort were enrolled. Anthropometric, biochemical, urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (uACR), brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV), and Cornell voltage-duration product data were collected. Furthermore, the potential risk factors for subclinical organ damage were investigated, with particular emphasis on examining the predictive value of the LAP, VAI, and TyG index for detecting subclinical organ damage., Results: LAP, VAI, and TyG index exhibited a significant positive association with baPWV and uACR. However, only LAP and VAI were found to have a positive correlation with Cornell product. While the three indices did not show an association with electrocardiographic left ventricular hypertrophy, higher values of LAP and TyG index were significantly associated with an increased risk of arterial stiffness and albuminuria. Furthermore, after dividing the population into quartiles, the fourth quartiles of LAP and TyG index showed a significant association with arterial stiffness and albuminuria when compared with the first quartiles, in both unadjusted and fully adjusted models. Additionally, the concordance index (C-index) values for LAP, VAI, and TyG index were reasonably high for arterial stiffness (0.856, 0.856, and 0.857, respectively) and albuminuria (0.739, 0.737, and 0.746, respectively). Lastly, the analyses of continuous net reclassification improvement (NRI) and integrated discrimination improvement (IDI) demonstrated that the TyG index exhibited significantly higher predictive values for arterial stiffness and albuminuria compared with LAP and VAI., Conclusion: LAP, VAI, and, especially, TyG index demonstrated utility in screening cardiovascular subclinical organ damage among Chinese adults in this community-based sample. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the relation between the lipid accumulation product index (LAPI) and diabetic kidney disease (DKD) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM)., Methods: Herein, 931 patients were enrolled and their data were collected. Then the interrelation between LAPI and DKD was assessed using multivariate logistic regression analyses (LRAs) and by a restricted cubic spline (RCS)., Results: In total, 931 participants (352 females and 579 males) aged 55 years on average were included in the study. After adjusting for several confounders, the odds ratio for DKD was increased evidently in the third LAPI tertile compared with that in the first LAPI tertile. In addition, the RCS revealed a positive interrelation between LAPI and DKD. Aim: Confirm and compare the degree of associations of non-traditional lipid profiles and metabolic syndrome (MetS) in Chinese adolescents, determine the lipid parameter with better predictive potential, and investigate their discriminatory power on MetS., Methods: Medical measurements, including anthropometric measurements and biochemical blood tests, were undergone among a total sample of 1112 adolescents (564 boys and 548 girls) aged from 13 to 18 years. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were applied for assessing the relationships between the levels of traditional/non-traditional lipid profiles and MetS. We performed Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) analyses to mensurate the effectiveness of lipid accumulation product (LAP) on the diagnosis of MetS. Meanwhile, areas under the ROC curve and the cut-off values were calculated for MetS and its components., Results: Univariate analysis showed that all our lipid profiles were closely associated with MetS (P< 0.05). LAP index showed the closest association with MetS than the other lipid profiles. Background: Diabetes has become a global public health problem. Obesity has been established as a risk factor for diabetes. However, it remains unclear which of the obesity indicators (BMI, WC, WhtR, ABSI, BRI, LAP, VAI) is more appropriate for monitoring diabetes. Therefore, the objective of this investigation is to compare the strength of the association of these indicators and diabetes and reveal the relationship between LAP and diabetes., Methods: 15,252 people took part in this research. LAP was quartered and COX proportional risk model was applied to explore the relationship between LAP and new-onset diabetes. Smooth curve fitting was employed to investigate the non-linear link between LAP and diabetes mellitus. Finally, the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to evaluate the predictive ability of the aforementioned indicators for diabetes., Results: After adjusting for confounding factors, multiple linear regression analysis showed that each unit increase in LAP was associated with a 76.8% increase in the risk of developing diabetes (HR=1.768, 95% CI: 1.139 to 2.746, P=0.011). In addition, LAP predicted new-onset diabetes better than other indicators, and the AUC was the largest [HR: 0.713, 95% CI: 0.6806-0.7454, P<0.001, in women; HR: 0.7922, 95% CI: 0.7396-0.8447; P<0.001, in men]. When LAP was used as a lone predictor, its AUC area was largest both men and women. However, after adding classical predictors (FPG, HbA1c, SBP, exercise, age) to the model, the LAP is better than the ABSI, but not better than the other indicators when compared in pairs., Conclusions: High levels of LAP correlate very strongly with diabetes and are an important risk factor for diabetes, especially in women, those with fatty liver and current smokers. LAP was superior to other indicators when screening for diabetes susceptibility using a single indicator of obesity, both in men and in women. Objectives: Obesity measurement indexes have certain screening value for metabolic diseases. To investigate associations between metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) and obesity measurement indexes, including traditional indexes (BMI, WC, WHtR) and new indexes (ABSI, BRI, VAI, LAP), and assess their screening ability., Methods: 12,658 subjects aged 18-75 at the Health Center of a Class III Grade A Hospital were included, who were divided into MAFLD and non-MAFLD groups. Spearman's rank correlation was used to study the correlation between MAFLD and obesity measurement indexes. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to calculate the area under the curve (AUC) to evaluate their screening accuracy., Results: MAFLD had strong correlation with traditional BMI and new index LAP. ROC analysis showed that BMI had the highest AUC (0.89), followed by LAP (0.87). Introduction: Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD), formerly known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), has become the most common chronic liver disease worldwide. We aimed to explore the gender-related association between nine indexes (BMI/WC/VAI/LAP/WHtR/TyG/TyG-BMI/TyG-WC/TyG-WHtR) and MAFLD/NAFLD and examine their diagnostic utility for these conditions., Methods: Eligible participants were screened from the 2017-2018 cycle data of National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Logistic regression and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve were used to assess the predictive performance of 9 indexes for MAFLD/NAFLD., Results: Among the 809 eligible individuals, 478 had MAFLD and 499 had NAFLD. After adjusting for gender, age, ethnicity, FIPR and education level, positive associations with the risk of MAFLD/NAFLD were found for all the nine indexes. For female, TyG-WHtR presented the best performance in identifying MAFLD/NAFLD, with AUC of 0.845 (95% CI = 0.806-0.879) and 0.831 (95% CI = 0.791-0.867) respectively. Objective: Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) affects 25% of the population without approved drug therapy. According to the latest consensus, MAFLD is divided into three subgroups based on different diagnostic modalities, including Obesity, Lean, and Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T 2 DM) MAFLD subgroups. This study aimed to find out the optimum non-invasive metabolism-related indicators to respectively predict MAFLD and its subgroups., Design: 1058 Chinese participants were enrolled in this study. Anthropometric measurements, laboratory data, and ultrasonography features were collected. 22 metabolism-related indexes were calculated, including fatty liver index (FLI), lipid accumulation product (LAP), waist circumference-triglyceride index (WTI), etc. Logistic regression analyzed the correlation between indexes and MAFLD. Receiver operating characteristics were conducted to compare predictive values among 22 indicators for screening the best indicators to predict MAFLD in different subgroups., Results: FLI was the best predictor with the maximum odds ratio (OR) values of overall MAFLD (OR: 6.712, 95%CI: 4.766-9.452, area under the curve (AUC): 0.879, P < 0.05) and T 2 DM MAFLD subgroup (OR: 14.725, 95%CI: 3.712-58.420, AUC: 0.958, P < 0.05). LAP was the best predictor with the maximum OR value of Obesity MAFLD subgroup (OR: 2.689, 95%CI: 2.182-3.313, AUC: 0.796, P < 0.05). Background and Objective: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is an important risk factor for cardiovascular complications and kidney damage. Obesity- and lipid-related indices are closely related to MetS, and different indices have different predictive abilities for MetS. This study aimed to evaluate the predictive value of eight obesity- and lipid-related indicators, namely, body mass index (BMI), lipid accumulation product (LAP), body roundness index (BRI), Chinese visceral adiposity index (CVAI), body adiposity index (BAI), abdominal volume index (AVI), triglyceride glucose index (TYG), and visceral adiposity index (VAI), for MetS., Methods: A total of 1,452 relatively healthy people in Beijing were enrolled in 2016, and the correlation between the eight indicators and MetS was analyzed by multivariate logistic regression. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and the area under the curve (AUC) were used to analyze the predictive ability of the eight indicators for MetS. The Delong test was used to compare the AUC values of the eight indicators. MetS was defined according to the Chinese Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes (2020 edition), the revised National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Group (NCEP-ATPIII), and the International Diabetes Federation (IDF)., Results: Using these three sets of criteria, LAP, TYG, CVAI, and VAI, which are based on blood lipids, had higher AUC values for MetS prediction than BMI, BRI, AVI, and BAI, which are based on anthropometry. Background & Objectives: Body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) are widely used to assess obesity, but they are limited in their ability to distinguish complicated body metabolic situations (fat mass, lean body mass, visceral and subcutaneous fat deposits in the abdomen). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of different anthropometric indices in metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) and to identify the best cut-off point for the diagnosis of MAFLD in United States adults., Methods: A cross-sectional study among 4,195 participants over 18 years old in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2017-2018 was performed. All patients underwent vibration controlled transient elastography (VCTE). Assess the anthropometric measurements, including BMI, WC, waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), cardiometabolic index (CMI), triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, hepatic steatosis index (HSI), lipid accumulation product (LAP), body roundness index (BRI), visceral fat index (VAI), abdominal volume index (AVI), cone index (CI), and body fat index (BAI). Logistic regression analyses were conducted to estimate the impact of these indices, on the odds ratio (OR) values of MAFLD. Receiver operator characteristic (ROC) analyses were performed to assess the diagnosing capacity of these anthropometric indices for MAFLD and identify the optimal cut-offs points., Results: A total of 4,195 (2,069 men and 2,126 women) participants were performed, with 45.4 ± 0.64 (mean ± SD) years old. All anthropometric metrics were positively associated with MAFLD, irrespective of whether it was treated as continuous or categorical variable (P<0.05). Multivariate logistic regression showed a positive correlation between AVI, HSI, WHtR, BRI, and MAFLD, with significant interaction with gender. ROC curves results showed that LAP had the highest AUC [0.813 (95% CI, 0.800-0.826)], especially in participants aged between 18 and 50 years old. Furthermore, LAP showed the highest ROC in both the training set [0.812 (95% CI, 0.800-0.835)] and the validation set [0.809 (95% CI, 0.791-0.827)]., Conclusions: In the present study, we showed that those anthropometric indices were significantly associated with MAFLD in United States adults. Objective: To study the association between anthropometric indexes [lipid accumulation products (LAP), visceral obesity index (VAI), triglyceride and glucose index (TyG) and waist triglyceride index (WTI)] and metabolic syndrome (MetS) in a representative sample of American adult population surveyed by National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES)., Methods: Cross-sectional data from the NHANES were used. Participants were adults aged 18-80 y from 1996-2006. MetS were defined by the updated National Cholesterol Education Program/Adult Treatment Panel III criteria (NCEP-ATP III) for Americans. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was drawn and the areas under the curve (AUC) were used to assess the ability of these indexes in screening MetS. Statistical differences among the AUC values of these indexes were compared. The association between the anthropometric indexes and MetS was investigated using weighted multivariable-adjusted logistic regression., Results: 560 (35.2%) males and 529 (26.4%) females were diagnosed with MetS. LAP was the strongest predictor of MetS for men (AUC=0.87, 95% CI 0.85-0.89), and also was the strongest for women [AUC=0.85, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.83-0.86], according to the ROC curve analysis. In men, differences in AUC values between LAP and other anthropometric indicators were also significant (all P <0.001). Background: The children's lipid accumulation product (CLAP) is associated with MS in Chinese children and adolescents. The aim of this study was to develop a more effective indicator, the relative children's lipid accumulation product (RCLAP) was evaluated for correlation with MS and the density of lipid accumulation., Methods: A stratified cluster sampling method was used to recruit 683 students aged 8-15 years in this study. The presence of MS was defined according to the NCEP-ATP III criteria. The participants' guardians signed informed consent before the medical examination. This study was approved by the Medical Ethics Committee of the Bengbu Medical College [(2015) No.003] and was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki., Results: The overall prevalence of MS was 4.8% (male 6.6%, female 2.8%). After adjusting for sedentary activity time, relative children's lipid accumulation product per height (RCLAP-H) and relative children's lipid accumulation product per sitting height (RCLAP-SH) significantly increased the risk of MS in girls [OR (95% CI): 96.13 (11.11-831.97) and 96.13 (11.11-831.97), respectively]. After adjusting for ages and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity time, RCLAP-H, and RCLAP-SH significantly increased the risk of MS in boys [OR (95% CI): 171.75 (33.60-878.00) and 133.18 (27.65-641.39), respectively].
