The reformation of medical training in Japan is essential to maintain pace with international standards in medical education ; central to this is embracing outcome-based education in medical colleges nationwide. At Fukushima Medical University, the bedside training period was extended from 50 to 72 weeks in 2018, offering a window for targeted improvement to promote student-centered, active learning. In order to enrich the clinical learning experience, three key interventions were initiated. First, the establishment of clear objectives for teaching staff and students were set to maximize the effectiveness of bedside training. Secondly, we revised our student evaluation strategy and adapted more stringent methods promoting peer evaluation, simulated patients, and tutor feedback. Finally, we introduced information and communication technology (ICT) to create a dynamic and interactive learning environment, designed to facilitate constructive peer feedback and deep reflection. We hope that these three approaches will lead to the promotion of outcome-based education within our college. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
