A large and growing number of people die with and from dementia, but their care at the end of life is often suboptimal. This article recommends a palliative approach to the care of people with dementia and their families to counter the negative outcomes associated with aggressive medicine and to improve the experience of dying for all concerned. This concluding article summarizes the majority of articles in the issue, notes areas of agreement and disagreement between them, and focuses on three ideas identified in articles eight through seventeen as most important for care providers to understand about person-centered care for people with dementia.
