We had not attempted to show different geologic situations in our paper because there are numerous “typical” situations that we believed would only reiterate our basic conclusions. Nevertheless, because Mr. Hansen brought up a particular geologic situation, we tested it and found that our main conclusions indeed are reiterated.

We appreciate the interest Mr. Reford has shown by examining the dike anomaly as it relates to draped versus level surveys. We agree that draped survey data are not much harder to interpret than level survey data, but, as Mr. Reford shows, one must make allowances for the difference while interpreting data. That one must make these allowances was the point of our Figure 4; we were not attempting accurate measurements. The method we used to estimate the vertical depth to the dikes (slope‐distance method) is not only approximate but subjective as well. It is not surprising then that our depth estimate errors were large.
