The article focuses on the concept of intergranular void ratio and their relationship to undrained shear strength a steady state of granular mixed soil. The factor b represents the degree of participation of fine grains in the internal contact force chain in the soil mix at fines content. Higher values of b would be expected with increasing space constraint for the fine particles to move within the porous network. The relationships for limiting silt contents delineating the transition zones where the predominant influence of the sand matrix diminishes and the influence of silt grains begins to dominate are presented.
