AIM: To investigate the related factors that affect the efficacy of dacryocystorhinostomy performed with a nasal endoscope in the treatment of dacryocystitis.METHODS:We retrospectively analysed the clinical data and postoperative results of 380 patients with dacryocystitis who were treated by dacryocystorhinostomy with a nasal endoscope in our hospital from July 2015 through April 2019. We observed the functional recovery of the lacrimal bursa, nasal cavity, anastomotic orifice and lacrimal passage and analysed the related factors that may affect the postoperative condition in cases of dacryocystitis.RESULTS: In this study, 380 patients(413 eyes)with dacryocystitis were followed up for more than 6mo. The curative effect was measured by the function of the lacrimal passage after 6mo. Twenty-seven eyes of 27 cases(6.5%)showed no healing. The results of univariate analysis indicated that the severity of nasal septum deviation, the presence of a small lacrimal sac, repeated probing of the lacrimal passage, laser treatment or catheterization of the lacrimal passage and recurrent dacryocystitis(whether discovered in a routine revisit after the operation or in the early stage of the operation)influenced the curative effect of dacryocystorhinostomy in the patients. The results of Logistic regression analysis showed that the severity of nasal septum deviation, the presence of small lacrimal bursa and regular revisits after the operation were the main risk factors affecting the curative effect of nasal dacryocystitis under a nasal endoscope.CONCLUSION: Dacryocystorhinostomy with a nasal endoscope is effective in the treatment of dacryocystitis, including difficult cases, and the postoperative cure rate is high. Skilled surgical technique, standard postoperative treatment and good compliance by patients are crucial to the success of the operation.

AIM: To study the subfoveal choroidal thickness(SFCT)and its influencing factors in children with different degree of myopia.METHODS: This is prospective cohort study. Eighty-nine eyes of 45 school-age children aged 5-14 years old were studied, and according to the equivalent sphericity(SE)into different refractive groups. Mild, moderate and high myopia groups had 27, 42 and 20 eyes respectively, apply the enhanced depth scanning mode(EDI-OCT)of an optical coherence tomography(OCT)scanner to measure SFCT to compare choroid thickness differences among myopia groups, to find out the change rule of SFCT between myopia groups, and Pearson correlation analysis was used to analyze the related influencing factors.RESULTS:SFCT of mild myopia, moderate myopia and high myopia respectively were(253.22±43.56)μm,(223.19±54.93)μm,(185.90±50.99)μm, SFCT differences between different refractive groups were statistically significant(Pr=0.430, -0.499, 0.425, all PPCONCLUSION: The degree of myopia in children was deepened and SFCT became thinner. The degree of myopia in children is related to the family history of myopia.

AIM: To explore the teaching effect of problem-based learning(PBL)on cultivating students' clinical thinking in clinical practice teaching of ophthalmology. METHODS: A total of 141 clinical undergraduate students were selected to attend the ophthalmology course in the first semester of the 2017-2018 academic year, students were randomly assigned to the traditional lecture based learning(LBL)teaching group of 69 and the PBL model teaching group of 72 in the clinical practice class. The two groups of students studied the same courses at the early stage, and there was no statistically significant difference in college entrance examination scores, gender, age, and practice time of ophthalmology(P>0.05). At the end of the internship, the teaching effects of the two teaching methods were compared and analyzed by means of students' curriculum assessment questionnaire survey and the clinical examination results. RESULTS: The evaluation of students' satisfaction with the training of various abilities of the course showed that the satisfaction of each ability of the PBL teaching group was higher than that of the traditional teaching group(LBL). Among these abilities, there were statistically significant differences in learning interest improvement, knowledge expansion ability, problem-solving ability and doctor-patient communication ability(PPCONCLUSION: PBL teaching method is more effective in clinical practice teaching of ophthalmology, which is beneficial to train clinical thinking and improve teaching quality.

AIM: To investigate the opportunity of the concomitant strabismus operation and the function in the treatment of strabismic amblyopia through analyzing the changes of binocular summation of pattern visual evoked potential(P-VEP)before and after the surgery of concomitant strabismus. METHODS: In this retrospective study we investigated 67 cases admitted in our hospital. All patients were less than 18a and the postoperation squint angle was less than ±10△. Patients were divided into three groups according to the strabismus type, age, and amblyopia degree. P-VEP binocular summation response was recorded in all cases, to observe the changes of the binocular summation response of P-VEP before strabismus surgery and 1mo, 3mo after surgery. The P-VEP response of binocular /monocular(B/M)ratio was taken as an evaluation index. RESULTS: B/M value of three groups all improved obviously 1mo after surgery, which the difference showed statistical significant(PP12a group(PPPCONCLUSION: Concomitant strabismus surgery is suggested to be performed before 6 years old when the patients are difficult to improve the vision after amblyopia treatment, especially with the severe amblyopia and esotropia(accommodative esotropia must be excluded). The early operation is better to amblyopia treatment and binocular vision recovery.
