This article presents the computational fluid dynamic simulation of the heat transfer characteristics induced by a swap swirl air‐jet generator on the impingement surface. The study was carried out for conventional and swap twist tape inserts of twisted ratio y = 2.93 with various swap angles (α = 30°, 60°, 90°) at a constant distance of nozzle diameter impingement plate (L = 2D). The results show that the Nusselt number of the swirl impingement air‐jet depends on the twisted tape swap angles and airflow rate. The results also showed that the swap angle of 90° gave notable uniform local heat transfer distribution compared with the typical twist tape and other swap twist tapes (α = 30°, 60°). In addition, the predicted results of the local heat transfer coefficient help explain the local turbulence intensity and generation to assist the industrial applications of swirl impingement air‐cooling jet. Experiments are performed to investigate the impact of inserts (TTI, TBI, and TBHI) accompanied by different twist ratios (ie, y/w = 3.69, 4.39, and 5.25) with uniform heat flux condition to study the performance characteristics of pressure drop, rate of heat flow, and heat transfer enhancement. Experiments were carried out on different twisted tape inserts in a turbulent flow regime by choosing suitable Reynolds number between 3100 and 39 000. A plain tube is tested and compared with the empirical correlations and are found to be in good agreement with the experimental data. In the case of twisted tape inserts stronger swirl flow is observed along the length of the tube. The variation of reduction in pressure along the length of tube and heat flux in the form of the friction factor and Nusselt number are represented graphically. Thermal performance factor tends to increase with a decrease in the taper twist ratio. The maximum enhancement in Nusselt number and friction factor was found to be in the case of TBI and TBHI. Experimental results are justified and are found to be reliable and accurate with the analytical results, with ±5% and ±4.2% deviation for Dittus‐Boelter and Petukhov correlation in the case of Nusselt number and ±7.2% deviation, respectively, for loss in the friction. This is an experimental and numerical study on the effect of air swirl vane angle on combustion characteristics of liquid fuel burners. The swirl vane angle varied in a range from 0° to 75° and the values of the dependent variables were determined. The flame temperature was measured by an S-type thermocouple and a Testo 350 XL gas analyzer was used to determine the NO and CO pollutant concentrations. Also, sprint CFD code along with suitable models was used in analytical modeling. The results indicate that there is an optimum angle for the swirl vane (approximately 45° for the case study). At the optimum angle, the average temperature of the flame increases as much as 12.5% and 28.5% in comparison with small and large angles, respectively. Therefore, combustion efficiency reaches its maximum level and CO emission is at an extremely low level. The results also demonstrate that large swirl angles decreases NO emission.
