Despite the extensive literature revealing various core structures that can enhance the impact resistance of composite panels, a comparative study illustrating the difference in performance of the various cores under same loading conditions is missing. The aim of this study is to determine the optimal core structure and design in terms of energy absorption under low-velocity impact using both numerical simulations and experimental testing for validation. Response surface analysis was used to design the experiments and analyse the panel's behaviour. A total of 160 numerical simulations were conducted by varying the core shape, density, number of layers and panel's thickness. Drop tower tests were performed to experimentally validate the results. Additive manufacturing was used to 3D print the tested structures which simplified the manufacturing process. Results provided insights on time to perforation, stiffness of the panels showcasing an inverse relationship between recoverable strain energy and equivalent plastic strain. The number of layers within the panels were identified as a pivotal factor in the energy distribution and tendency for localized plastic deformation to occur. Both numerical and experimental results revealed the superior energy absorption capabilities of the X-frame core shaped structure. Regression models developed shed light on the relationships between core height, volume fraction, number of layers, and core topology revealing the extent of damage. This study reports the concentration of heavy metals in the tissues of stranded sea snakes that died as a result of exposure to an oil spill on the eastern coast of Sharjah, UAE. Given the limited occurrence of stranded sea snakes observed along Sharjah's eastern coast outside this spill incident, we are using strandings collected from the nearby Arabian Gulf coast of Sharjah to compare the levels of heavy metals in sea snakes affected by the oil spill against their non-oiled counterparts. The sample comprised 14 Arabian Gulf Coral Reef Sea Snakes (Hydrophis lapemoides ), 6 Yellow-bellied Sea Snakes ( Hydrophis platurus ), and 4 Yellow Sea Snakes ( Hydrophis spiralis ). High valence multi transition metal hydroxides are greatly enriched with OER redox active sites due to strong synergy of heteroatomic nuclei. The efficiency of these redox active sites could be efficiently improved by coupling with highly conductive substrate. The advanced three-dimensional (3D) architecture and hydrophilic terminal functionalities of MXene (MX) considerably enhance the maximum utilization rate of anchored redox active sites by triggering the direct growth of these at MX substrate. Here-in, the freeze-dried 3D network of crumpled Vanadium-Carbide (V 2 C) MX sheets regulates the crystallization of in-situ grown NiFeCr multi transition metal hydroxides on MX scaffold through co-precipitation process. The XPS results suggest a synergistic chemical interaction of 3D MX scaffold with NiFeCr that modifies the electronic structure of the composite ensuring reduced charge transfer resistance. Besides, as found in FESEM morphological investigation, the well-dispersed NiFeCr multi-transition metal hydroxides are immobilized on open pores like structure of V 2 C-MX facilitate thoroughly accessible active sites. As a result, the NiFeCr@3D V 2 C-MX composite has shown an excellent electrocatalytic activity with an overpotential of 410 mV at a current density of 200 mA cm -2 , Tafel slope of 100 mV dec in 1M KOH. Besides, the significant interaction between metallic centers and MXene support prevent detachment or agglomeration of active centers providing maximum interaction with the electrolytic ions, quick ionic OH - transportation, speedy and stable electron transfer channels thus ensure the long-term stability of NV-5MX during 53 h continuous operation of OER. Furthermore, we have utilized a more accurate value of half-cell standard reduction potential of the Hg/HgO electrode in the Nernst equation to represent all test voltages and to determine the overpotential values. In essence, this study features a facile approach for the confined growth of multi transition metal hydroxides in the presence of morphologically unique 3D crumpled V 2 C MXene architectures. Achieving an optimal therapeutic level is crucial in effectively eradicating cancer cells during treatment. However, conventional chemotherapy-associated systemic administration of anticancer agents leads to many side effects. To achieve the desired control over the target site, active targeting of HER2-positive breast cancer cells can be achieved by conjugating liposomal vesicles with Human Epidermal growth factor Receptor 2 (HER2) and inducing release of the encapsulated drug using ultrasound. To further enhance the delivery efficiency, nanoemulsion droplets exhibiting responsiveness to low-frequency ultrasound are encapsulated within these lipid vesicles. In this study, we prepared four different liposomal formulations, namely pegylated liposomes, emulsion liposomes (eLiposomes), HER-conjugated liposomes, and HER-conjugated eLiposomes, each loaded with calcein and subjected to a thorough characterization process. Their sizes, phospholipid concentration, and amount of antibody conjugation were compared and analyzed. Cryogenic transmission electron microscopy was used to confirm the encapsulation of nanoemulsion droplets within the liposomes. The drug-releasing performance of Herceptin-conjugated eLiposomes was found to surpass that of other liposomal formulations with a notably higher calcein release and established it as a highly effective nanocarrier. The study showcases the efficacy of calcein-loaded and Herceptin-conjugated eLiposomes, which demonstrate rapid and efficient drug release among other liposomal formulations when subjected to ultrasound. Researchers have extensively explored various approaches to enhance the blast resistance of structures, concentrating on optimizing structural designs and employing a wide range of materials. This research investigates the impact of incorporating water as a fluid within the core of tubular sandwich panels on blast mitigation effectiveness. The study systematically analyzes various panel configurations by altering key design parameters: the thickness of the face sheets, spacing between the core elements, and proportion of fluid within the core. These variables are scrutinized through metrics such as elastic strain energy, the amount of work applied externally, and the movement of the panel. Utilizing finite element analysis, 27 distinct numerical experiments were conducted to gather data. The findings demonstrate that panels with a water-filled core exhibit superior blast resistance compared to their non-fluid counterparts. Specifically, panels with completely filled cores showed the lowest levels of panel displacement and external work, whereas those with half-filled cores recorded the highest elastic strain energy. Furthermore, regression analysis revealed that plate thickness predominantly influences panel displacement and external work, whereas the fluid volume fraction within the core most significantly affects elastic strain energy. Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are highly associated with both vitamin D deficiency and obesity, two prevalent health conditions worldwide. Arterial stiffness, an independent predictor of CVDs, is particularly elevated in both conditions, yet the molecular mechanisms underlying this phenomenon remain elusive, hindering effective management of CVDs in this population. We recruited 20 middle-aged Emiratis, including 9 individuals with vitamin D deficiency (Vit D level ≤20 ng) and obesity (BMI ≥30) and 11 individuals as control with Vit D level >20 ng and BMI <30. We measured arterial stiffness using pulse wave velocity (PWV) and performed whole transcriptome sequencing to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and enriched pathways. We validated these findings using qRT-PCR, Western blot, and multiplex analysis. PWV was significantly higher in the vitamin D deficient and obese group relative to controls (p ≤ 0.05). The DEG analysis revealed that pathways related to interleukin 1 (IL-1), nitrogen metabolism, HIF-1 signaling, and MAPK signaling were over-activated in the vitamin D deficient and obese group. We found that HIF-1alpha, NOX-I, NOX-II, IL-1b, IL-8, IL-10, and VEGF were significantly upregulated in the vitamin D deficient and obese group (p < 0.05). Our study provides new insights into the molecular mechanisms of arterial stiffness in vitamin D deficiency and obesity, demonstrating the role of oxidative stress and inflammation in this process. Our findings suggest that these biomarkers may serve as potential therapeutic targets for early prevention of CVDs. In this paper, we investigate the potential use of Zeolitic Imidazolate Frameworks (ZIF-8) as a sensing material for CO 2 detection. Three synthesis techniques are considered for the preparation of ZIF-8, namely room temperature, microwave-assisted, and ball milling. The latter is a green and facile alternative for synthesis with its solvent-free, room-temperature operation. In addition, ball milling produces ZIF-8 samples with superior CO2 adsorption and detection characteristics, as concluded from fluorescence measurements. Characterization tests including X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) are conducted to inspect the structural morphology, the thermal stability, and elements content of the ZIF-8 samples obtained from the different aforementioned synthesis techniques. The characterization tests revealed the appearance of a new phase of ZIF-8 which is ZIF-L when deploying the ball milling technique with different structure, morphology, response to CO 2 exposure and thermal stability when compared to its counterparts. Fluorescence measurements are carried out to evaluate the limit of detection (LOD), selectivity, and recyclability of the different ZIF-8 samples. The LOD of the ZIF-8 sample synthesized based on ball milling synthesis technique is 815.2 ppm, while LODs of the samples obtained from microwave and room temperature-based synthesis techniques are 1780.6 ppm and 723.8 ppm, respectively. This indicates that the room temperature and ball milling produced MOFs have comparable LODs. However, the room temperature procedure requires the use of a harmful solvent. The past decade has witnessed a breakthrough in novel strategies to treat cancer. One of the most common cancer treatment modalities is chemotherapy which involves administering anti-cancer drugs to the body. However, these drugs can lead to undesirable side effects on healthy cells. To overcome this challenge and improve cancer cell targeting, many novel nanocarriers have been developed to deliver drugs directly to the cancerous cells and minimize effects on the healthy tissues. The majority of the research studies conclude that using drugs encapsulated in nanocarriers is a much safer and more effective alternative than delivering the drug alone in its free form. This review provides a summary of the types of nanocarriers mainly studied for cancer drug delivery, namely: liposomes, polymeric micelles, dendrimers, magnetic nanoparticles, mesoporous nanoparticles, gold nanoparticles, carbon nanotubes and quantum dots. In this review, the synthesis, applications, advantages, disadvantages, and previous studies of these nanomaterials are discussed in detail. Background: In the last decade, point of care testing (POCT) such as lateral flow immunoassays (LFIA) were developed for rapid TSH measurement. Most of these TSH-LFIAs are designed for qualitative measurements (i.e., if TSH values > 5, or >15 IU/L) and as screening tests for primary hypothyroidism in children and adults. Serum or plasma, but not venepuncture whole-blood or fingerstick/capillary, are usually used to quantify TSH accurately. Studies on performance evaluation of TSH-LFIAs POCT using venepuncture or fingerstick whole-blood are limited. Additionally, limited studies evaluated the performance and validity of TSH-LFIAs POCT compared to valid and reliable reference methods. To our knowledge, this is the first study to evaluate three different blood withdrawal techniques for evaluating POCT of TSH., Aim: We aim to evaluate the performance of a new fluorescence-based LFIA and its Finecare™ fluorescent reader for quantitative measurement of TSH from a fingerstick, venepuncture whole-blood, and serum., Methods: 102 fingerstick, venepuncture whole-blood, and serum samples (with normal and abnormal TSH values) were analyzed by Finecare™ Rapid Quantitative LFIA test and Roche CobasPro-c503 as a reference test., Results: Using serum, when compared to CobasPro-c503 reference method, Finecare™ showed high sensitivity [90.5 % (69.6-98.8)] and specificity [96.3 % (89.6-99.2)] for diagnosis of thyroid abnormalities (<0.35 or >4.5 mIU/L). The actual test values (mIU/L) of Finecare™ showed excellent agreement (Cohen's Kappa = 0.85) and strong correlation (r = 0.93, p < 0.0001) with CobasPro-c503. Using venepuncture whole-blood samples, Finecare™ showed similar results to serum with high sensitivity [95.2 % (76.2-99.9)], specificity [97.5 % (91.4-99.7)], excellent agreement (Cohen's Kappa = 0.91), and very strong correlation (r = 0.95, p < 0.0001) with CobasPro-c503. These results suggest that Finecare™ can be used for quantitative measurement of TSH using serum or venepuncture whole-blood. These key performance indicators were slightly decreased when fingerstick whole-blood samples were used: sensitivity [85.7 %(63.7-97)], specificity [90.0 %,(81.5-96)], good agreement (Cohen's Kappa = 0.7) and very strong correlation (r = 0.9, p < 0.0001) with CobasPro-c503. A subgroup analysis of abnormal TSH samples revealed a strong and significant correlation between the reference, Finecare™ whole-blood (r = 0.692; p = 0.0015), and fingerstick test Finecare™ (r = 0.66; p = 0.0025). A very strong correlation was also observed between Cobaspro-c508 serum and Finecare™ serum (r = 0.88; p < 0.0001). Conclusion: In comparison to the reference assay, our study demonstrates that Finecare™ exhibits high sensitivity, specificity, agreement, and a strong correlation. This paper examines the relationship between hotels' official ratings and customer review scores. Hotel ratings aim to provide an objective assessment of the hotel's quality and experience to potential customers. However, customer reviews frequently differ from official ratings. We use data on hotels in Dubai to explore their relationship and analyze their similarities and differences. Asymmetric information hampers demand in the hotel industry if ratings do not match the customers' views of quality. Furthermore, substantial discrepancies between the two measures provide competing interests for hotel managers to satisfy rating agencies' criteria or customers' preferences, reducing the hotels' efficiency and effectiveness in offering customers the best experience and value. Our findings show that, as expected, Star Rating primarily reflects hotel-related features. In contrast, customer review scores tend to appreciate features nearby in addition to hotel amenities. Crocodiles are flourishing large-bodied ectotherms in a world dominated by endotherms. They survived the Cretaceous extinction event, that eradicated the dinosaurs who are thought to be their ancestral hosts. Crocodiles reside in polluted environments; and often inhabit water which contains heavy metals; frequent exposure to radiation; feed on rotten meat and considered as one of the hardy species that has successfully survived on this planet for millions of years. Another capability that crocodiles possess is their longevity. Crocodiles live much longer than similar-sized land mammals, sometimes living up to 100 years. But how do they withstand such harsh conditions that are detrimental to Homo sapiens ? Given the importance of gut microbiome on its' host physiology, we postulate that the crocodile gut microbiome and/or its' metabolites produce substances contributing to their "hardiness" and longevity. Thus, we accomplished literature search in PubMed, Web of Science and Google Scholar and herein, we discuss the composition of the crocodile gut microbiome, longevity and cellular senescence in crocodiles, their resistance to infectious diseases and cancer, and our current knowledge of the genome and epigenome of these remarkable species. Furthermore, preliminary studies that demonstrate the remarkable properties of crocodile gut microbial flora are discussed. Given the profound role of the gut microbiome in the health of its' host, it is likely that the crocodile gut microbiome and its' metabolites may be contributing to their extended life expectancy and elucidating the underlying mechanisms and properties of these metabolites may hold clues to developing new treatments for age-related diseases for the benefit of Homo sapiens ., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflict of interest., (© 2021 The Author(s).)
