An essay is presented that discusses the significance of former U.S. vice president Spiro T. Agnew during the administration of former U.S. president Richard Nixon, in addition to the political strength of what the author calls the conservative New Right in the U.S. It examines Agnew's impact on the appeal of the Republican Party to suburban Americans, his impact on U.S. political discourse, and his political reputation. It also examines Agnew's governorship of Maryland, stances on civil rights, and rhetoric.
