Abstract

An essay is presented on speaking honestly about raising a disabled child. The author relates his challenges of writing about his daughter who has Down syndrome. Experiences of people who are raising children with special needs are presented, including caring for a child with alobar holoprosencephaly (HPE) and adoption of children with Down syndrome. The author stresses the need to include grace, dignity and authenticity when writing on the subject of raising a child with special needs.
