Abstract

The magnetic moment of 28P (I π = 3 + , T1/2 = 270.3 ms) in the ground state has been measured by the $\upbeta $ -nuclear magnetic resonance method for the first time. The measured magnetic moment of $\vert \upmu (^{28}$ P)∣ = 0.309(9) $\upmu _{{\rm N}}$ is well reproduced by the shell model value of +0.306 $\upmu _{{\rm N} }$ . The shell model calculation also yields a proton density distribution with a long tail. The present results provide a strong confirmation of the configuration of the 2 s 1/2 proton which should lead to the proton halo. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The electric quadrupole ( Q) moment of short-lived nucleus 25Al $(I^{\pi} = 5/2^{+}, T_{1/2} = 7.18~{\rm s})$ has been measured for the first time, by means of the β-NQR technique. The spin polarization of 25Al was produced in heavy ion collisions and was kept in a α-Al2O3 single crystal for as long as 2 s and the quadrupole coupling frequency was obtained as ∣ eqQ / h(25Al in Al2O3) ∣ = (4.05 ±0.30) MHz. From the result, the Q moment was determined as ∣ Q(25Al)∣ = (240 ±20) mb. The present Q moment is larger by 30% than the shell model value of 184 mb, calculated by OXBASH code, which may show additional deformation of the nucleus. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The magnetic moment of short lived β-emitter 24mAl (426 keV, I π = 1 + , T 1/2 = 131 ms) has been measured by means of β-NMR technique, for the first time. From the β-NMR spectrum, the magnetic moment was determined as $\left| {\upmu}\left( ^{\rm 24m}{\rm Al} \right) \right|=\left( {2.99\pm 0.09} \right){\upmu}_{\rm N}$ . Combined with the known magnetic moment of the mirror partner 24mNa, the expectation value of < S z > is obtained to be (0.08 ± 0.12). These values are reproduced well by the shell model calculation. Abstract

We measured the polarization of the $\upbeta $ -emitting 23Ne ( I π = 5/2 + , T 1/2 = 37.24 s) and 25Al( I π = 5/2 + , T 1/2 = 7.18 s) produced through the one nucleon pickup reactions and 24mAl( I π = 1 + , T 1/2 = 131 ms, E ex = 426 keV) and 28P( I π = 3 + , T 1/2 = 270 ms) produced through charge-exchange reactions in the intermediate energy heavy ion collisions. We compared them with those from the projectile fragmentation process. The larger polarization seems to persistently be positive throughout the momentum distribution, and sharper momentum distributions suggest that nuclear friction mechanism is responsible for the polarization phenomena. Abstract

The β-NMR spectra of 21F, 23Mg, 27Si and 39Ca which were produced in heavy ion collisions and implanted in various crystals have been observed. The magnetic moments of 21F and 27Si were determined to be |μ(21F)| = 3.9194 ± 0.0012 μN and |μ(27Si)| = 0.8653 ± 0.0003 μN, respectively. The electric quadrupole coupling constants were determined for the first time to be |eqQ(21F in MgF2)/h|= 9.94 ± 0.09 MHz, |eqQ(23Mg in MgF2)/h|= 1.96 ± 0.06 MHz, |eqQ(27Si in Al2O3)/h|= 1.90 ± 0.12 MHz, |eqQ(39Ca in CaCO3)/h|= 0.60 ± 0.04 MHz. From the present eqQ/h, the Q moments were deduced as |Q(21F)|= 110 ± 22 mb, |Q(23Mg)|= 114 ± 3 mb, |Q(27Si)|= 60 ± 13 mb and |Q(39Ca)|= 36± 7 mb. Abstract

Abstract: The nuclear spin alignments of the β-emitting fragments 12B(I π=1+, T 1/2=20.2 ms) and 13B(I π=3/2−, T 1/2=17.4 ms) produced in the 100A-MeV 13C, 15N + 9Be collisions respectively have been observed for the first time detecting asymmetric β-ray emission from these nuclei. By means of the spin manipulation technique based on the hyperfine interaction of B isotopes in TiO2, both the polarization P and the alignment A were determined reliably. The obtained P and A were significantly smaller than the expectation from the kinematical model. From the fact that the quenching factors for P and A are almost the same, there may be some depolarization mechanism in the collision process itself.

Abstract

Abstract: Time integral γ-γ angular correlation measurements have been made on156Gd in Tb-3d metal compounds, TbFe2, TbFe3, TbCo2 and TbCo3, using two Ge(Li) detetctors. From the observation of a linear relation between magnetic hyperfine fields at Gd and Tb nuclei in corresponding compounds, it is inferred that crystalfield induced variations of the Tb moment are negligible. The experimental results are discussed in terms of the conduction electron polarization caused by the magnetic moment of 3d metals.
