Abstract

An analysis of vertical external-cavity surface-emitting laser (VECSEL) designed for simultaneous dual-wavelength emission is presented. It is shown that the blocking layers prevent carrier leakage from one active-layer section to another and equalize the gain at the two wavelengths and that without the blocking layers the dual-wavelength lasing would hardly be achievable at any reasonable pump power.
