This special issue is the tenth in an important tradition in the computer architecture community: IEEE Micro's Top Picks from the Computer Architecture Conferences. This tradition provides a means for sharing a sample of the best papers published in computer architecture in 2012 with the IEEE Micro readership and researchers in the computer architecture community. The article presents information on several papers related to microarchitecture presented at the top computer architecture conferences in 2005. These papers were selected by the journal "IEEE Micro," in an attempt to summarize some of 2005's most significant research contributions that might have the biggest impact on future industrial designs. The Micro had received 80 submissions out of which a committee, made of reputable professionals who are active in the field and have first-hand experience in how research advances have impacted the industry, selected 13 papers. Each paper was examined by four committee members--two from industry and two from academia. Most of the submissions had strong technical contributions. The committee members relied on their experience and on spirited discussions before and during the program committee meeting to evaluate the papers. The final 13 selected papers cover a wide spectrum of active research areas within computer architecture with about half of the contributions focusing on obtaining higher performance.

The article announces the search for articles for the May/June 2012 issue of the journal "IEEE Micro." The issue will cover research papers featured in the computer architecture conferences of 2011. Also offered are requirements for submission, formats of research papers, and standards for eligibility.

Hot Interconnects is an annual conference that specializes in emerging technologies for interconnecting computer systems and subsystems, as well as networks. The conference has a high degree of industrial participation, with paper submissions, panel discussions and tutorials that often reflect the melding of industrial and university perspectives. Hot Interconnects 11, which took place on August 20 to 22, 2003 at Stanford University continued this tradition. The conference covered a spectrum of microcomputing topics from the very small and slow, to the very large and fast.
