Three-port converters with high voltage gain are desirable solutions for integrating renewable energy and energy storage devices into high voltage dc bus. A high gain three-port converter with soft switching is proposed in this paper, which can realize zero voltage switching for all switches and zero current switching for all diodes in various operating modes. Single coupled inductor is used to achieve high voltage gain and to reduce the voltage stress of switches so that switches with low on-resistance can be selected to reduce the conduction loss. In addition, the advantages of fewer components, higher voltage gain, and very low switch voltage stresses make the proposed converter more suitable for application in renewable energy systems than similar solutions. Various operating modes, performance analysis, design considerations, efficiency analysis, and control method of the proposed converter are discussed. A laboratory prototype with 30 V renewable energy source, 48 V energy storage device and 400 V output is designed to verify the performance of the proposed three-port converter. This paper discusses the analysis and experimental validation of bidirectional Z-source breaker and bidirectional Z-source breaker using coupled inductor for low-voltage dc microgrid application. The proposed topologies use an SCR as a switch to isolate the fault from the system, and LC network to generate required commutation conditions for the SCR under fault conditions. Thus, both topologies are able to isolate the fault naturally within a few microseconds without any fault detection and sensing circuit. In this paper, the breaker operating principle is discussed during fault condition and breaker design criteria are derived. When the breaker is connected in series with power electronic converter, Z-source components offer filtering characteristic. The filtering characteristic offered by the breaker components is analyzed. This paper presents the development of a Class-D full-bridge zero-voltage switching (ZVS) inverter, applicable to wireless power transfer (WPT) systems, operating at 13.56 MHz switching frequency with dynamic dead-time control (DDTC). Resonant-coupled WPT systems are being designed at ultrahigh switching frequencies to reduce the size of the wireless link and the passive components. Maintaining ZVS while controlling the output power delivered to a fixed or variable load is one of the major challenges of designing inverters at multi-MHz switching frequencies. DDTC is the approach deployed in this paper to sustain soft switching of a Class-D full-bridge inverter over the full range of output power while regulating the input dc bus voltage. Simulation results are presented to show that dynamically controlling the dead-time during input dc bus voltage variations reduces switch-node voltage overshoot, prevents large current spikes in the switching devices, and reduces associated high switching loss. Practical results obtained show that DDTC reduces switch-node voltage overshoot, increases the inverter efficiency, and reduces the steady-state temperature of the inverter during output power regulation. This paper presents a unified second-stage LC filter applied in the three-state switching cell buck–boost converter, which provides current and voltage with low ripple and low noise. The unified second-stage filter promotes a reduction in the number of devices while maintaining the filtering performance of the converter, with second-stage LC filters at the input and at the output. Moreover, the unified filter, when associated with a three-state switching cell buck–boost converter, allows a size reduction of filter devices, especially for designs with duty cycle range around 1/2. Furthermore, the unified filter arrangement provides nondissipative clamping of switching devices and reduce the system order when compared to the converter with second-stage LC filters. In this paper, the static and dynamic characteristics of the proposed converter in continuous conduction mode (CCM) are reported. Experimental data were obtained from a laboratory prototype with an input range of 32 $\sim$ 72 V, constant output of 48 V, a load of 150 W, and switching frequency of 45 kHz. The measured efficiency for the rated load was 97% for maximum input voltage. In this paper, many impedance-source inverters with coupled inductors have been investigated to obtain a high step-up boost ratio. However, the leakage inductors in these topologies induce great voltage spikes at the dc link, which will increase the voltage stress of switches. Thus, the power level of inverters is limited. Furthermore, the efficiency of the inverters can be degraded by the losses associated with leakage inductors. To address abovementioned issues, this paper proposes a family of low-spike high-efficiency Y-source inverters. The proposed inverters have the ability of eliminating voltage spikes at the dc link and recycling the leakage energy via the additional diode and capacitor. In order to show the excellent characteristics of the proposed topologies, this paper compares the performances of the proposed inverters and the improved-Y-source inverter in many aspects. This paper presents a novel integrated-stage light-emitting diode (LED) driver based on Flyback and resonant converters. The Flyback converter realizes power factor correction in the discontinuous conduction mode. The resonant converter is operated as a dc–dc converter to support the LED loads. Moreover, the resonant converter can clearly decrease the drain–source voltage of the active switch and exhibits zero-voltage-switch characteristics. Therefore, a cost-effective MOSFET can be chosen as the main control component that can decrease the cost of the whole system. Compared to a single-active-switch converter (such as Class-E converter), the number of passive components in the resonant converter can be limited to four. Therefore, the power density of the system can be improved drastically. In this paper, a new family of impedance source inverters is presented. It employs high-frequency electrical isolation between the inverter bridge switches and the load along with voltage clamping across the dc-link voltage. Conventional Z-source inverters (ZSIs) employs an impedance network that consists of inductors and capacitors. It has unique features that realize both step-up/step-down functions and eliminates the need of dead/overlap times. This paper extends this novel concept by using electrical isolation in impedance source inverters. High-frequency isolation has many advantages in terms of immunity and reliability; when applied with impedance source inverters this makes ZSIs a preferable choice for industrial applications. In photo-voltaic systems, the addition of the high-frequency transformer provides safety by avoiding the injection of dc circulating current into the grid, without the need of an external bulky line frequency transformer. The gain of the proposed inverter design can be accurately selected by choosing the turns ratio of the high frequency transformer (HFT) or by adjusting the shoot-through duty cycle (STDC) to the inverter. This allows for greater freedom especially when utilizing a higher modulation index, with the STDC allowing dynamic gain adjusts to be done speedily during operation of the inverter. Additionally, a dc-rail voltage clamping technique for the proposed class of isolated ZSIs is also discussed. This technique provides benefits not only in improving the output voltage quality, but also in reducing voltage stress of the active and passive components by minimizing the voltage spikes across the switching devices. In this paper, several high-frequency isolated ZSIs are presented, and an example isolated improved ΓZSI design is shown and discussed in detail. Simulations are provided for the proposed class of isolated inverters to verify their working. Further experimental investigation has been done for which results for the isolated improved ΓZSI are reported. Domestic induction heating appliances are evolving from surfaces with three to five fixed cooking areas to flexible cooking zones. These are able to adapt to a number of vessels of any size and shape by using multiple coils. Some state-of-the-art induction systems make use of overlapped inductors in two layers, which combine the high efficiency of large inductors with the high flexibility of small adjacent coils. The main drawback of this concept is the unequal distance between different coils and the vessel, which implies that each coil presents a different impedance depending on its layer. This paper presents an induction system conformed by nonplanar inductors. These inductors are designed in such a way that they can be assembled in overlapping structures, while preserving equivalence among them, i.e., they all present the same impedance. In this paper, a series-capacitor-based interleaving buck power factor correction (PFC) converter is proposed, the intermediate energy storage capacitance of which is operated at discontinuous capacitor voltage mode (DCVM), and automatic power factor (PF) correction for this converter is obtained. Moreover, the voltage across the series capacitor of the proposed PFC converter is clamped at the input voltage, and thus peak voltage stress existed in the traditional DCVM buck PFC could be relieved. By effectively regulating the charge/discharge time for the series capacitor, ultrahigh step-down conversion ratio of the proposed converter is achieved, the conversion ratio of which is independent of the duty cycle and only related to the switching frequency and circuit parameters. Therefore, high PF can be obtained due to very narrow deadtime of the input current. Meanwhile, the proposed PFC converter can realize the soft turn-on of part power switch and soft turn-off of part power diodes. In addition, comparing with the traditional discontinuous inductor current mode PFC, the input current of the proposed PFC converter is continuous so that the peak value and root-mean-square value of input current can be reduced. The operational principle, performance analysis, and parameter design principle are given in this paper. The analysis results show that the PF and total harmonic distortion are also independent of the duty cycle. This paper proposes an “isolated soft switching current fed LCC-T resonant dc–dc converter for PV/fuel cell applications.” This converter is able to achieve zero voltage switching for front-end inverter switches and zero-current switching for voltage doubler diodes. The majority of dc–dc converters have compact capacitive (C) filter in output, but high harmonic currents through transformer makes them bulky. The proposed converter attempts to improve harmonic content through a transformer under wide load and input variations as well as it can significantly reduce required turns ratio of transformer to achieve required output voltage. For the above reasons, the proposed converter can offer better footprints and therefore it can be a potential candidate for PV/fuel cell applications. This paper presents basic operating principal, detailed analysis, control, and design of the proposed converter with the help of an example. This paper proposes a novel isolated bidirectional two-switch flyback converter with two integrated non-dissipative inductor–capacitor–diode (LCD) snubbers. In the proposed topology, the main flyback transformer and the LCD snubbers are cross coupled to minimize circulating current that would occur in the non-cross-coupled case, in addition to recycle leakage energy and protect the power transistors. The same current circulation issue also occurs in the bidirectional flyback converter with conventional resistor–capacitor–diode (RCD) snubbers. The main objective of this paper is to illustrate this issue and propose an alternate circuitry to reduce the current circulation and improve the conversion efficiency. The extra-LC auxiliary-resonant-snubber-based converter (ELCARSC), as a soft-switching converter, has the advantages of low switching loss, low electromagnetic interference noise, and low-output distortion caused by the dead-time effect. However, the dead-time effect is still the main problem in a high-precision application. Besides, the traditional control and compensation methods rely on the accuracy of the circuit parameters, especially the junction capacitance, thus resulting in compensation error. Therefore, this paper proposed a novel high-precision control method through modulating the initial resonant current to eliminate the dead-time effect of ELCARSC. The method does not need complicated online calculation and reduces the dependence on the accuracy of the circuit parameters, especially the influence of the junction capacitances of the switches. In this paper, the dead-time effect of the ELCARSC is analyzed. The output voltage error with the conventional variable-timing control method is analyzed. Subsequently, the proposed modulated initial resonant current control is introduced. Finally, a prototype was developed that verified the effectiveness of the control method. This paper presents a multifunctional control system for interlinking converters interfacing microgrids and ac mains. Applicable standards pose power quality and grid-support function requirements for converters that interface energy resources of dc nature with an ac utility grid. At the same time, the forthcoming smart grid scenario calls for additional functionalities, enabling the effective integration of hybrid (i.e., dc or ac) microgrids, that are applicable to both grid-connected and islanded modes of operation. This requires novel interlinking converter controllers with extended flexibility. The control system described in this paper fulfills both connected and islanded operation needs and provides seamless transitions between the two modes. Such valuable functionalities are attained owing to an underlying, large-bandwidth, triple-loop control organization. The target converter is meant to be connected to a local dc subgrid at the dc side and to a local ac subgrid at the ac side. The controller manages the connection of the ac-side subgrid with the utility grid, ensuring a fast response control of the ac grid current. Therefore, it allows interfacing of renewable sources and loads, aggregated in dc and ac nanogrids or microgrids, with smart power systems, providing enhanced power quality, stability, and flexibility of operation. This paper proposes a new dc–ac converter with a reduced number of semiconductor switches and gate drive and control circuit components. A salient feature of this inverter is its pure sinusoidal line-to-line voltages with no need for output filter. Also, the proposed inverter improves the voltage utilization factor of the input dc supply compared to the four-switch three-phase inverter (first best topology in the literature from the number of switches point of view) and standard six-switch inverter with sine pulsewidth modulation. The proposed inverter is capable of operating with a wide range of output voltages from zero to the full value of the dc input voltage by appropriately altering the instantaneous duty cycle. A three-phase universal inverter with only three power switch has been proposed in this paper for the first time ever, to our knowledge. For the purpose of providing a good compromise between fast transient response and stability, a model predictive controller is proposed. All the design expressions have been derived. A comparison with other dc–ac converters is given to show the merits of the proposed converter. In this paper, a new nonisolated high step-down dc–dc converter with ultrahigh step-down conversion ratio is proposed. Advantages of the proposed converter are high step-down ratio, extended duty cycle, reduced switching losses by a converter operation under zero-voltage switching (ZVS) conditions, reduced reverse reco-very losses of diodes by achieved zero-current switching turn-off condition, and reduced voltage spikes by the inherent active-clamping structure of the converter. In this converter, series capacitors and coupled inductors have been used in power path to achieve the low voltage gain and extended duty cycle. By the inherent active-clamping structure of the proposed converter, the leakage inductance energy is totally recovered in the output; therefore, the high voltage spike across the semiconductor devices is suppressed. The switches of the proposed converter can operate under ZVS conditions, which cause reduced switching losses and improved efficiency. Soft-switching techniques of transformerless photovoltaic grid-connected inverters (TLIs) can significantly reduce switching losses, as well as soften switching processes. Conventional dc–ac soft-switching configurations proposed by Dr. Deepakraj M. Divan are invalid in TLIs because of the leakage current problem. In order to develop soft-switching techniques in TLIs, this paper proposes a new soft-switching configuration and a procedure to guide the invention of soft-switching TLIs. First, this paper proposes two basic resonance tanks related to dc bus polarities, and then, uses these basic tanks to elevate four popular full-bridge-type TLIs according to the proposed guideline. As a result, four soft-switching TLIs are gained. Second, this paper picks obtained soft-switching highly efficient and reliable inverter concept (HERIC) as example to analyze its soft-switching operation principle and performance. As a consequence, all active switches of the gained soft-switching HERIC circuit are switched under both of zero-current turn-on and turn-off conditions; the reverse recovery problem of freewheeling diodes is alleviated owing to the zero-current turn-off of diodes; meanwhile, the common-mode voltage at the switching frequency scale is still constant. Finally, some experimental results from a 3-kW universal prototype at 50-kHz switching frequency are provided to verify the effectiveness of the main contributions of this paper. Tap changers are commonly used to maintain the limits in medium-voltage lines. Initially based on electromechanical switches, efforts have been made since the 1990's to reduce maintenance expenses with thyristor-based versions. Among the methods to limit the short-circuiting current in commutating taps, the multiwinding coil has demonstrated, during decades of use in the low-voltage field, to be reliable and cheap. Two previous papers showed that multiwinding changers can be applied to medium-voltage lines up to 34.5 kV, 15 MVA with no parallel or series thyristor association. This paper proposes a new topology, based on a double array of tap switches per phase, allowing for step-up the power from 15 to 36 MVA and insertion in any point of the line with no connection to the head transformer. A comparative cost analysis gives technical and economical results for a typical 10 MVA, 34.5 kV stabilizer demonstrating the advantages of the proposed circuit over the electronic single array topology and the classic mechanical solutions. In this paper, two structures are proposed for the switched-inductor quasi-Z-source inverter. In the proposed structures to extend the voltage gain of inverter, two new switched-inductor structures are used. In the proposed structures, voltage across the capacitors in the Z-source network and in the switched-inductor is symmetric and small. The other advantage of proposed inverters is known as achieving higher voltage gain per smaller duty cycle ratio (of shoot-through). Compared with a conventional continuous input current switched-inductor quasi-Z-source inverter at the same gain voltage, there is less of a ripple of input current in the proposed inverters. In this paper, at first the both the conventional and the proposed switched-inductor Z-source inventers are thoroughly investigated to find out their governing relations. Then, the proposed Z-source inverters are compared with the conventional ones by simulating them to assess their performance efficiency. Next, applying the simple boost pulse width modulation the simulation is carried out with PSCAD/EMTDC software. A comprehensive analysis for a family of two-level pulsewidth modulation plus phase-shift (PPS)-modulated-isolated-bidirectional dc–dc converters is presented in this paper. Compared with the traditional phase-shift control, the PPS control features reduced current stresses, reduced conduction losses, guaranteed zero-voltage switching (ZVS) operation, and wide conversion-ratio variation range. In this paper, all eight operation modes are revealed, and then the unified solution of the power transmission capability for each mode is proposed, applicable for any two-level PPS converters. Based on the unified solution, component stresses and ZVS operation are analyzed to assist component selection. Most importantly, the control maps for three different combinations of the two-level PPS converters are proposed, to assist converter operation and design in the low-circulating-current region. In the control map, a circuit parameter k is proposed and its upper limit is found, providing a design limit to select switching frequency, leakage inductance, turns ratio, and power level. Microinverters require high voltage gain capability for interfacing the low dc voltage output of photovoltaic (PV) module to single-phase ac grid. A two-stage nonisolated inverter is proposed in this paper, with a first boost stage and a second traditional pulse width modulated grid-tied inverter stage. The proposed boost stage consists of a coupled inductor added with a voltage multiplier to achieve the required high voltage gain at high efficiency and to operate over a wide input voltage range. Among the coupled inductor topologies, adding a clamp circuit is a common solution to limit the voltage spike caused by leakage inductance. In the proposed converter, the resonance between the coupled inductor and voltage multiplier is used to address the issue of voltage spike, thereby reducing both component count and device voltage stress. A new isolated single-stage soft-switching power-factor-correction (S4 PFC) driver for supplying light-emitting diodes (LEDs) is introduced in this paper. In the proposed LED driver, the switches voltage stress and also the dc-bus voltage is limited to the peak of the line voltage. Hence, low voltage rated mosfets and diodes can be used. The efficiency is improved because the switches are turned on under zero current switching (ZCS) condition and turned off under zero voltage zero current switching (ZVZCS) condition. Also, no current feedback is required since the converter provides an output current independent of output voltage. In this paper, operating principle of the proposed LED driver is presented and design considerations are discussed. In applications that demand single-input dual-output (SIDO) or dual-input single-output (DISO) dc–dc converters, employing two separate single-input single-output (SISO) converters is a solution. However, the number of components is doubled, resulting in high overall cost. In order to reduce costs, this paper proposes a novel topology synthesis methodology, with which a variety of SIDO and DISO dc–dc converters with reduced components can be derived. The principle of topology synthesis states that integrated SIDO and DISO dc–dc converters can be easily developed from conventional SISO converters by replacing a diode with a basic cell inclusive of additional input/output port. The principle is effective for many SISO dc–dc converters, and as an example, topology synthesis based on buck, boost, buck–boost, Cuk, sepic, and zeta SISO converters is performed in this paper. In order to achieve better understanding of the proposed converters, the integrated SIDO Cuk converter is specifically analyzed and experimentally verified. In comparison with the conventional scheme of two separate SISO Cuk converters, good cross regulation is retained while the number of diodes, inductors, and capacitors is reduced in the proposed SIDO Cuk converter. In addition, zero-voltage-switching operation of one switch is achieved, contributing to lower switching losses. In this paper, new half-bridge and full-bridge topologies for a switched-boost inverter are proposed. These topologies have a high boost factor in comparison with conventional types. In addition, the proposed topologies have continuous input current and can generate zero-voltage level in output. In this paper, the operation of the proposed inverters in different operating modes is analyzed. Then, the values of inductors and capacitors are designed. Moreover, the used switching pattern and its logical diagram are introduced. A comprehensive comparison between the proposed and conventional topologies in terms of the boost factor, the number of elements, and the efficiency shows the good features of the proposed inverters. A novel hybrid pulse width modulation (PWM) technique is proposed in this paper for two parallel interleaved, two-level, three-phase voltage source inverters (VSIs). The two parallel interleaved VSIs are analyzed as a three-level (3L) inverter. A 3L inverter provides minimum line current ripple when nearest three voltage vectors are applied. In this paper, a novel carrier-based PWM technique is developed that ensures the application of nearest voltage vectors, keeping average circulating current to zero over a switching period. For carrier-based implementation of the proposed PWM, generalized common-mode (CM) offsets are derived in terms of maximum and minimum values of reference signals. Each 3L space-vector sector is divided into seven subsectors. For each subsector, a CM offset is calculated, addition of which to reference signals ensures the minimum line current ripple and zero average circulating current. The phase-shifted full-bridge (PSFB) converter is widely employed in high-power applications. However, circulating current, narrow range of zero-voltage switching (ZVS), duty-cycle loss, and secondary parasitic oscillation are the main drawbacks of the traditional PSFB converter. This paper proposes an improved full-bridge converter to solve the drawbacks of the traditional PSFB converter. In the proposed converter, a coupled inductor with three windings is introduced to adjust the available ZVS energy and to transfer power to the output side during freewheeling period. Due to this structure, output filter requirement, circulating current, the required ZVS energy, and secondary voltage oscillation can be reduced. The development of a high static gain dc–dc converter with the integration of the voltage multiplier cell and the coupled inductors operating with soft switching is presented in this paper. The use of coupled inductors and voltage multiplier techniques allow the operation with low switch voltage and low conduction losses. The switch turn-on commutation occurs with zero current switching due to the presence of the coupled-inductor leakage inductance. The leakage inductance also reduces the reverse recovery current of all diodes. The zero voltage switching at the power switch turn-off is obtained with the inclusion of only a diode and a snubber capacitor per phase, without the use of auxiliary switches. The soft-switching range is independent of the load and is maintained even with a light load. The theoretical analysis, design procedure, and experimental results are presented in this paper. In this paper, a nonisolated dc–dc converter with high voltage gain is presented. Three diodes, three capacitors, an inductor, and a coupled inductor are employed in the presented converter. Since the inductor is connected to the input, the low input current ripple is achieved, which is important for tracking maximum power point of photovoltaic panels. The voltage stress across switch S is clamped by diode D 1 and capacitor C1. Therefore, a main switch with low on-resistance RDS (on) can be employed to reduce the conduction loss. This paper presents three unidirectional step-up ac–dc converter topologies with voltage multiplication on their outputs. The first topology is the hybrid boost rectifier and the other two are novel bridgeless structures, all based on the integration of boost rectifier and the ladder switched-capacitor (SC) cell. The new hybrid structures provide high voltage gain with low voltage stress across the switches, high-power factor, and output voltage regulation. This paper presents the principle of operation, steady-state and dynamic analysis, design methodology, and experimental verification. A different approach is also presented for the design methodology of the SC cell and for the analysis of its influence on the dynamic model. Three 1000-W prototypes with a 220-V input voltage, 800-V output voltage, and 100-kHz switching frequency were designed to corroborate the theoretical study. The best efficiency was 97.1$\%$ in the proposed bridgeless versions and the voltage stress across the switches stands around 400 V. This paper investigates and evaluates the performance of a single-phase split-source inverter (SSI), where an alternative unidirectional dc–ac configuration is used. Such configuration is utilized in order to use two common-cathode diodes in a single device instead of using two separate diodes, resulting in minimum parasitic inductance in the commutation paths. In this paper, the analysis and modulation of the single-phase SSI using this alternative configuration is discussed, and the analysis of the low-frequency component in the dc side is introduced. Moreover, the features behind employing the triangular, the trailing-edge sawtooth, and the leading-edge sawtooth carriers with the single-phase SSI are discussed, and the differences among these carriers are highlighted. In order to highlight the performance of the proposed SSI, a comparative study is conducted with the two-stage architecture and the single-phase quasi-Z-source inverter (qZSI). The introduced analysis is enhanced with simulation results using MATLAB/PLECS models, where a 1-kVA single-phase SSI is designed and simulated. Finally, the designed 1-kVA single-phase SSI is implemented experimentally and tested at different operating points, i.e., at different voltage gains, and a maximum efficiency of $95.5\%$ is obtained. This paper proposes a wide-range zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) active-clamped current-fed push–pull converter for fuel cell application. The presented converter achieves ZVS for all of the primary switches and ZCS for secondary diodes from rated load to 10% full load over the wide input voltage variation, improving the overall efficiency. The ZVS of switches is realized by the energy stored in the transformer leakage inductance aided by the secondary parallel inductor. An additional active clamping circuit suppresses the voltage spike as well as assists in realizing ZVS of switches. Low-voltage-rated switches with low on-state resistance can be used. Moreover, the voltage-doubler rectifier is adopted to release the reverse-recovery problem of rectifier diodes and reduce turns ratio of the high-frequency transformer. In this paper, two topologies are presented for the enhanced-boost quasi-Z-source inverters (qZSI), namely continuous input current configuration and discontinuous input current configuration of enhanced-boost qZSI with two-switched impedance networks. Similar to enhanced-boost impedance-source inverters (ZSIs), these proposed inverter topologies possess very high boost voltage inversion at low shoot-through duty ratio and high modulation index to provide an improved quality output voltage. Compared to enhanced-boost ZSIs with two-switched Z-source impedance networks, these proposed inverter topologies share common ground with source and bridge inverter, overcome the starting inrush problem, and draw continuous input current and the lower voltage across the capacitors. This paper proposes a family of soft-switching bidirectional converters. In many applications, the bidirectional converters operate over a wide range of duty cycle and load variations. In the proposed converters, in order to extend the zero-voltage switching operation range, two supplemental voltage sources utilizing passive components are implemented in the auxiliary circuit. By using this method, the soft-switching features are ensured for an extensive range of the converter duty cycles. This is achieved independent of the output power value or the converter operation mode, and so, soft switching is ensured within the entire converter operating region. In these converters, all semiconductors components are soft switched, and the auxiliary circuit does not contribute to the complexity of the control circuit. Also, no extra voltage stress exists on the main switches and the voltage stress on the auxiliary switches is lower than the main switches voltage stress. A single-phase common-mode transformerless grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) converter, which is based on the integration of two stages, is proposed in this paper. Transformer elimination in grid-connected PV systems has many advantages. It not only reduces cost, size, and weight but also increases the complete system efficiency. Since there is no galvanic isolation between grid and PV array, a leakage current may appear due to the PV parasitic capacitance to the ground, if this is not taken into account in the converter design. This paper presents a dc/dc boost converter integrated with a full-bridge inverter. The integration of these two stages reduces the ground leakage current. The neutral line of the grid is directly connected to the negative terminal of the PV array, eliminating any possibility of leakage current in this terminal. In this paper, a new high-efficiency step-up current-fed push–pull quasi-resonant converter is proposed, which is suitable for low-voltage fuel cell power conditioning system. The proposed converter conserves inherent advantages of low-input-current stress and high voltage conversion ratio of the conventional current-fed push–pull converter. All of power devices can achieve soft switching at light load improving the overall efficiency. Moreover, similar features have been obtained with fewer components in comparison with the active-clamped current-fed push–pull converter [37] and current-fed push–pull resonant converter [40], that enabling to reduce the cost and improve system reliability. This paper introduces the bridgeless triple-mode resonant ac–dc converter and presents its dynamic model and control technique. The proposed converter operates in triple mode: discontinuous-conduction mode (DCM), continuous-conduction mode (CCM), and missing resonance mode (MRM). It has the advantages of small number of required components, medium power capacity, and high efficiency, but it is difficult to control because DCM, CCM, and MRM have their own dynamic characteristics. To solve this control problem, the mode boundaries are first identified and, corresponding to each mode, the dynamic model is developed to design the controller. In each mode, we propose to add a repetitive controller (RC) with a phase-lead compensator to the conventional duty ratio plus feedback controller. The RC is used to suppress the deterministic periodic disturbances and the phase-lead compensator is used to compensate for the incurred phase lag. This paper introduces a new type of switched-mode gate driver, which is capable of operating at high frequencies. This topology satisfies requirements of small passive storage components, low-voltage stress, and high design flexibility. Most popular gate-drive circuits require at least two transistors. The proposed circuit has only a single transistor and is suitable for operation at switching frequencies on the order of several megahertz. The output voltage of the gate driver is a quasi-rectangular waveform shaped by a resonant network to produce the desired gate–source voltage waveform. A detailed steady-state operation of the proposed gate driver is discussed. The power-loss analysis and design procedure are presented. A hybrid self-powered synchronous electric charge extraction (HSP-SECE) interface circuit based on double stack resonance is presented in this paper. The proposed HSP-SECE interface circuit can simultaneously extract energy from piezoelectric transducer (PZT) and thermoelectric generator (TEG) when the peak open-circuit voltage of the PZT is detected by passive peak detector. The output power of the proposed interface circuit can reach three times of that of full-bridge rectifier circuit at the maximum power point, and the maximum efficiency of harvesting thermoelectric energy can reach 76% at 200 mV of the open-circuit voltage of the TEG. A soft-switched nonisolated high step-up dc–dc converter based on the quasi-impedance-source structure is presented in this paper. In the proposed converter, a technique similar to the synchronous rectifier is applied such that the diode of the impedance network is replaced with an active switch. In this way, not only is conduction loss associated with the diode reduced but also zero-voltage-switching characteristics for power switches are provided. Also, output diodes of the proposed converter are switched under zero-voltage-zero-current-switching condition which extremely reduces their switching and reverse-recovery losses. It is shown that by correct design of the components, soft-switching performance is retained for all the semiconductor devices over the entire range of output load. All these factors together with simplicity of the proposed structure result in high efficiency over a wide range of output power. Moreover, the proposed converter benefits from continuous input current and a shared ground between input and output. In order to improve the efficiency, reliability of power supply, and to give overall consideration to the power transformation and power quality control, a brand-new multifunction transformer with intrinsic adjustable magnetic state is put forward based on semihard magnets NdFeB in this paper. First, according to the formation mechanism of dc bias and the regulation means of inductance value, the peculiar core structure of a single-phase transformer is designed so as to realize the flux adjustment of transformer core under different magnetic states. Second, taking advantage of the magnetic conductive and excitation characteristics of NdFeB, the magnetic state conversion of electromagnet core between several kinds of working conditions can be achieved, such as voltage transformation, adjustable inductance, and dc bias compensation. Finally, two 10 kVA transformers with adjustable magnetic state are manufactured. As a high-efficiency converter for photovoltaic power generation, the integrated boost series resonant (IBSR) converter includes three inductors, two capacitors, and one transformer, which occupy a significant volume. In order to further increase the power density, this paper proposes a novel passive integrated unit with the flexible multilayer foil integration technique for the above six passive components. First of all, the distributed electromagnetic component model of one new flexible three-layer film shows that the distributed parasitic capacitors formed by the insulation film are combined into the resonant capacitance. Then, the configuration of the proposed integrated unit is described in detail, and the electromagnetic analysis is given. Furthermore, the design procedure for the proposed integrated unit is demonstrated. This paper proposes a transformer integrated filtering system (TIFS) for harmonic suppression in the industrial dc supply system. Designed for the electric environment with large current and severe harmonic contamination and the installation space with restricted planning area, the proposed TIFS has the merits of lower transformer loss, stronger ability in harmonic elimination, and higher integration of the electric equipment in the high-power industrial applications. The winding arrangement of the inductive filtering transformer with integrated reactor is introduced. Considering the influence of the residual weak coupling, the electromagnetic decoupling model of TIFS is established. Then, the interaction between the zero-impedance designed filtering winding and the decoupled winding is analyzed to determine the restricted range of the design parameter. The control strategy together with the transformer design method is further illuminated. At last, the prototype of TIFS is established in the laboratory. This paper proposes the use of advanced bus clamping switching sequences to reduce the impedance network inductor current ripple of the three-phase Z-source inverter (ZSI). Proposed technique is named as ABC4_MCB. MCB denotes that the maximum constant boost control method is used for the voltage boosting. One of the conventional space vector pulsewidth modulation of ZSI, “ZSVM6,” is termed as ZSVM6_MCB under the maximum constant boost control method. The switching sequences of ABC4_MCB technique are designed in such a way that it offers around 34% reduction in the maximum instantaneous inductor current ripple as compared to the ZSVM6_MCB for the equal average switching frequency. The factor of percentage reduction in the inductor current ripple using the proposed technique is constant over the entire range of shoot through duty ratio (0–0.48). This paper introduces a novel single-phase buck–boost noninverting variable-frequency ac–ac converter that offers higher efficiency compared to the competitors. This converter utilizes a lower number of semiconductors. A simple and flexible switching strategy is also proposed, which generates the desired output waveform avoiding unnecessary high-frequency switching operation of semiconductor devices. A high reliable operation due to the elimination of the input source shoot-through risk, an inherent commutation capability that mitigates the voltage spikes across the semiconductors, a lower semiconductors rating requirement, an improved input current waveform quality, and a smaller required input filter inductor are the main advantages of the proposed converter. Thus, the proposed converter can be successfully applied to many industrial applications such as medium-frequency transformer isolation for traction and wind turbine converters, ac–dc high-voltage conversion based on Cockcroft–Walton circuit and induction heating systems. As the “brain” of the modern photovoltaic power systems, dc solid-state transformers (SSTs) are playing an increasing important role in integrating different photovoltaic modules, batteries, and supercapacitors. This paper aims at improving the conversion efficiency of dc SST for a wide operating range by minimizing the backflow power of the dc SST system. First, the mathematical model of the backflow power from both input and output sides of dc SST is obtained. Then, the penalty function is derived and an enhanced triple phase shift control (ETPS) strategy is proposed to minimize the backflow power for various transmission power and voltage conversion conditions. A comprehensive comparison of the proposed ETPS with other advanced control strategies was carried out through theoretical analysis and experimental tests. In this paper, closed-loop control and boundary condition for continuous conduction mode and discontinuous conduction mode of nonisolated inverting N× multilevel boost converter (MBC) are articulated. Inverting N× MBC combines the features of classical boost converter and voltage multiplier to attain inverting N times higher voltage. Consequently, the inverting N× MBC provides a viable solution for high-voltage step-up photovoltaic applications with low voltage rating reactive components and semiconductor devices. The control strategy with saturation limiter is employed to achieve highly stable voltage. The modes of operation, benefits of inverting N× MBC, and key factors for the selection of semiconductor devices and sizing of the reactive components are discussed. This paper presents a validation of the novel motor-shaped rotational inductor. To validate the concept, 12 slots 2 poles rotational inductor is tested at different supply frequencies and rotor speeds. Experimental results have shown that the iron losses reduce as the rotor speed increases to the synchronous speed of the stator supply. The performance of the integrated rotational inductor is also compared with traditional EE core inductor in terms of total losses, synchronous inductance, copper resistance, and total harmonic distortion (THD). The total loss-to inductance ratio of the rotational inductor is reduced by 22.5% when rotor is rotating at 18 kRPM and supply frequency is held at 300 Hz. A significant reduction in copper resistance-to-inductance is also noticed when supply frequency is varied from 0 Hz to 20 kHz. It is of great significance for a voltage source converter (VSC)-based multiterminal dc (MTdc) grid to isolate the dc fault lines within several milliseconds after dc fault. Existing protection schemes and fault analysis methods are mainly based on the numerical simulations, which lack the theoretical analysis. In this paper, a high-frequency (HF) equivalent model of VSC-based MTdc grid that is utilized for initial dc fault current calculation is first proposed. In the proposed model, the parallel connected capacitors of VSCs are regarded as short-circuited, and the initial fault current calculation of the fault dc line and the healthy dc line can be reduced as a simplified RL and RLC circuit. Accordingly, a novel dc fault detection method for VSC-based MTdc system is further proposed. In the proposed approach, the primary detection utilizes the transient average value of line current and the fault dc line can be identified quickly with only one-end information. In addition, the errors between the transient fault current calculation based on the distributed parameter line model and the lumped parameter line model are also evaluated. Numerous simulation studies carried out in PSCAD/EMTdc have demonstrated that the proposed HF equivalent model can be utilized for initial dc fault analysis of VSC-MTdc system and the proposed protection scheme is effective under different fault locations and high fault resistances. Compared with the traditional protection schemes based on rate of change of current, the proposed one requires relatively low sampling frequency and low computation burden, and has high fault resistance tolerance ability and high robustness with respect to the missing data. This paper presents a new four-quadrant (4Q) boost-type converter with the use of active virtual ground (AVG) technology. The presented topology can step up the ac grid voltage to a regulated dc voltage under a stable bidirectional current flow and support the power transmission in either real power or reactive power delivery. With the use of the proposed modulation method, only two high-frequency switches are required through the 4Q operation. Under a full-bridge converter structure, an efficient system can be guaranteed. Also, benefiting from the AVG technology, an LCL filter is formed at the system input over the 4Q operation. Both magnitude of leakage current and grid current ripple are also minimized to a small value. Thus, a high-efficiency and low-noise 4Q converter is guaranteed. In this paper, a voltage sensorless controller is developed for a two-switch single-phase rectifier that involves power factor correction and active pulsating power buffering without electrolytic capacitors. While a two-switch rectifier normally requires four sensed signals for control, only one current sensor is required in this proposal, thereby offering advantages such as low cost, high compactness, isolation between control and power circuits, and improved reliability. While the basic operating principle follows that of a conventional voltage sensorless controller for single-switch converters, several critical design considerations are the key to the success of the implementation which is explained in detail.
