Several modeling, estimation, and control strategies have been recently presented for simple reluctance devices like solenoid valves and electromagnetic switches. In this paper, we present a new algorithm to online estimate the flux linkage and the electrical time-variant parameters of these devices, namely the resistance and the inductance, only by making use of discrete-time measurements of voltage and current. The algorithm, which is robust against measurement noise, is able to deal with temperature variations of the device and provides accurate estimations during the motion of the armature. Additionally, an integral estimator that uses the start of each operation of the actuator as reset condition has been also implemented for comparative purposes. The performances of both estimation methods are studied and compared by means of simulations and experimental tests, and the benefits of our proposal are emphasized. In this paper, the open-circuit dc-winding-induced voltage in a wound field switched flux (WFSFs) machines is analyzed. The phenomenon of open-circuit dc-winding-induced voltage is illustrated and the mechanism is explained. Rotor skewing is proposed to reduce the open-circuit dc-winding-induced voltage, and the optimal skewing angle is analytically derived based on the analytically deduced harmonic orders of the open-circuit dc-winding-induced voltage. Finite-element (FE) analyses show that the open-circuit dc-winding-induced voltages in the analyzed 12-stator-pole partitioned stator WFSF machines having 10-, 11-, 13-, and 14-rotor-pole rotors can be effectively reduced by >94%, while the ac-winding phase-fundamental back-EMFs can be maintained by >95%. DC-link current ripple is one of the important factors for operating the current-source converter. In practice, the dc-link current ripple can be reduced by increasing the switching frequency or inductance. However, it may result in the higher switching losses, larger size, or higher cost. In order to deal with this problem, the inherent limitation of the conventional solution is discussed in this paper. The time-domain equation of the dc-link current is established for the first time. And then, a new space vector control strategy is proposed to reduce the ripple with no need of increasing the switching frequency or inductance. The space vector is divided into 12 sectors, where the dc-link current ripple can be effectively reduced by the optimal vector sequence. Finally, the proposed method is implemented on the TMS320F28335DSP + XC3400FPGA digital control hardware platform. The experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed strategy. In this paper, a space-vector-modulation method for indirect matrix converters is proposed to improve the output voltage quality in high modulation index ratios and to reduce the peak common-mode voltage (CMV). A novel approach in the rectifier stage modulation generates a variable dc-link voltage that is controlled to drive the inverter stage on the limit of the linear modulation during each switching period. This allows inherent formation of the output voltage using only two active vectors per sector, which reduces the peak CMV and enhances the output voltage quality. This paper proposes a novel FPGA-based matrix-inversion technique that is specifically tailored and optimized for real-time electromagnetic transients simulation of power electronic converters with high switching frequency. This is the first reported solution that is capable of solving the real-time equations related to using ideal switch model and the associated circuitry in very small time-steps (e.g., an average of 36 ns in a three-phase back-to-back converter case study), without requiring large amount of memory, being limited to small number of switches, adding parasitic elements, or depending on a priori knowledge of the circuit operation or switching strategy. Real-time switched networks are becoming popular with the growing complexity of distributed embedded systems. There is a practical need to transmit noncritical data including diagnostic and supervising data for cost reduction. To meet hard real-time constraints, the time-triggered method is widely used due to its deterministic property, where both the reliability of the control data transmission and the tolerance of link failures are required. Conventional methods deploy redundant links and transmit frames over multiple disjoint paths. This paper presents a novel schedule method for the time-triggered network without simultaneous transmissions with multiple frames. The fault tolerance protocol is localized for critical data. We harness multiple effective optimization heuristics and strategies to ameliorate the existing schedule model and constraints. The finite control set model predictive control (FCS-MPC) for power electronic converters provides high dynamic performance, based on the limited number of inputs and accurate model of the converter. By applying this algorithm to multilevel converters such as a cascaded-H-bridge-based static var compensator (CHB STATCOM), the dynamic performance is degraded, because the optimized input is achieved by searching among a large set of switching combinations and redundancies. This paper proposes an FCS-MPC algorithm, which benefits high dynamic performance for the CHB STATCOM, despite the large set of inputs. The proposed FCS-MPC replaces the time-consuming optimization algorithm by solving Diophantine equations over the large set of switching combinations. The desired switching combination and all its redundancies are determined in a minimum execution time. The proposed FCS-MPC performance is validated by applying to two configurations: 1) a 15-level CHB STATCOM with energy storage capability for a short-term active power smoothing and reactive power compensation of a 10 MW fixed speed wind farm at medium voltage; and 2) an experimental seven-level CHB STATCOM at low voltage. In this paper, a decentralized switched current control is presented for dc microgrids. The dc microgrid is modeled considering dc–dc converters as controlled current sources instead of traditional voltage sources in droop control schemes. The proposed current control consists of switching between two current reference signals while keeping the voltage level at the loads and with proper current distribution. It is shown that the closed-loop system is stable through passivity analysis. Conventional two-level as well as multilevel voltage-source-inverter topologies with a hexagonal voltage-space vector structure generate low-order harmonics in the machine terminal voltages when operated beyond the linear modulation range in variable speed drive application. Progressing from hexagonal to a higher sided polygonal voltage-space-vector structure (VSVS) suppresses significant low-order harmonics throughout the modulation range. In addition, the linear modulation range will also be enhanced very near to the base speed. In this paper, for the first time, the generation of a multilevel 24-sided VSVS using a single dc source for induction-motor drives is proposed. A cascaded topology with a dc-source-fed flying-capacitor inverter and two low-voltage capacitor-fed H-bridge cells forms the power circuit. In this paper, new techniques are presented to improve the performance of the optimal switching vector model predictive control. A well-defined analytic technique is proposed for the real-time adjustment of dynamic weighting factors, as well as a new objective function formulation. These techniques provide a dynamic controller behavior, automatically adapted to distinct operating points. This ensures better steady-state performance in different conditions while improving simultaneously the dynamic response. The proposed controller presents a lower computational load than the conventional formulation and its design requires less extensive testing. General guidelines are presented to guide the user in the controller design. Torque ripple caused by zero-sequence current (ZSC) and relatively high switching frequency severely worsens the operating performance of an open-winding permanent-magnet synchronous machine (OW-PMSM) system with common dc bus. In this paper, a novel q-axis current injection method based on the angle-shift-based voltage distribution is proposed for the OW-PMSM system with common dc bus. With the proposed method, torque ripple caused by ZSC can be counteracted by the torque component generated by the injected q-axis current. Meanwhile, the corresponding modulation range is analyzed to investigate the availability of the proposed method. Moreover, in order to reduce the switching frequency, zero vector (111) is no longer necessary to compensate the zero-sequence component and conventional space vector pulsewidth modulation (PWM) with zero vectors (000) and (111) can be simplified. The switching actions in one PWM period can be reduced from 12 to 8. The comparison of losses shows that this strategy can effectively improve the efficiency under both heavy load and high switching frequencies. This paper proposes advanced speed control for a five-leg voltage source inverter (FLVSI) that drives the dual three-phase induction motor system used in industrial manufacturing processes. The advanced speed control method consists of two controllers: 1) The first is a slip controller that satisfies the application requirement, i.e., to control the mechanical speed of two motors equally regardless of the load condition. 2) The second is an angle controller that satisfies the FLVSI requirement, i.e., to control the phase angle difference between the two motors for minimizing the common leg current because the common leg current can be twice higher than other leg's current depending on the operation condition of the dual motor. Stability analysis of the two controllers under advanced speed control is implemented, and the whole performance of the advanced speed control for the FLVSI-fed dual-motor drive system is shown to identify its feasibility through the experimental results. In this paper, a new control strategy for single-inductor multiple-output (SIMO) converters is proposed. The strategy is based on the hybrid control scheme. Switched linear equations of the converter are used in the design procedure. As a result, the cross regulation is suppressed inherently. A minimum dwell-time constraint is considered to suppress the switching loss and electromagnetic interference. The proposed scheme can control both minimum phase and nonminimum phase SIMO converters. It will be shown that the system is robust to input voltage and load variations. In order to compare the results, a recent pulsewidth-modulation-based control system is considered. In this paper, a new method is applied to predict the average value of the phase currents of a two-level voltage source converter. The method uses a suitable model of the converter, the modulation method, and the measurement. The samples given by the analog-to-digital converter (ADC) are used to predict the time progress of the currents in every switching cycle and then calculate its average. This allows removal of the delay introduced by filtering and avoids aliasing in the measurements. The average prediction is contrasted with the pulsewidth modulation (PWM) synchronous sampling method and the sigma-delta ADC with a moving average filter. In this paper, a family of automatic interleaved Dickson switched-capacitor converters (AIDSCC) and its zero-voltage switching (ZVS) resonant configuration are proposed. Different from the traditional Dickson switched-capacitor converter, the AIDSCC has symmetrical configuration with the features of automatic interleaved input current, small output voltage ripple, and lower peak capacitor voltage stress. To improve the line regulation capability, one small resonant inductor is inserted and two bulky capacitor banks are replaced by two much smaller resonant capacitors, forming the resonant AIDSCC. The transistors are ZVS turned on and diodes are zero-current switching turned off by operating above the resonance. With frequency modulation within a reasonable range, the voltage-gain range of the resonant AIDSCC is expanded significantly, while sacrificing the maximum efficiency due to the higher conduction loss. This paper proposes a novel 11-level improved active-neutral-point-clamped (11L-IANPC) converter for ground power unit (GPU) application. This hybrid topology consists of the 5L-ANPC and the proposed low-voltage submodule. The proposed 11L-IANPC converter possesses only one flying capacitor (FC) and reduced number of high-frequency switches. Hence, voltage diversity and ratings, stored energy, and the number of costly and bulky FCs are significantly decreased. Moreover, operating the augmented submodule at the low voltage and power leads to doubling the number of output voltage levels, whereas the low extra cost and size are imposed on the proposed converter. In addition, suggested sensorless switching method leads to self-balancing of FC and significantly amends the output voltage frequency spectrum. These improvements cause significant reduction in control complexity of the proposed 11L-IANPC converter, remarkable decrease in size of the bulky and costly output LC filter, and improving the dynamic and steady-state performance of the proposed static GPU. Linear ramp slope compensation (LRC) and quadratic slope compensation (QSC) are commonly implemented in peak-current-mode-controlled dc–dc converters in order to minimize subharmonic and chaotic oscillations. Both compensating schemes rely on the linearized state-space averaged model (LSSA) of the converter. The LSSA ignores the impact that switching actions have on the stability of converters. In order to include switching events, the nonlinear analysis method based on the Monodromy matrix was introduced to describe a complete-cycle stability. Analyses on analog-controlled dc–dc converters applying this method show that system stability is strongly dependent on the change of the derivative of the slope at the time of switching instant. However, in a mixed-signal-controlled system, the digitalization effect contributes differently to system stability. This paper shows a full complete-cycle stability analysis using this nonlinear analysis method, which is applied to a mixed-signal-controlled converter. Through this analysis, a generalized equation is derived that reveals for the first time the real boundary stability limits for LRC and QSC. Furthermore, this generalized equation allows the design of a new compensating scheme, which is able to increase system stability. The proposed scheme is called polynomial curve slope compensation (PCSC) and it is demonstrated that PCSC increases the stable margin by 30% compared to LRC and 20% to QSC. Usually, the parallel-compensated inductive power transfer (IPT) topology fed by a current-source inverter is controlled through variable switching frequency and fixed 50% duty cycle method. This enables the system to operate at resonance frequency, which drifts due to load and other parameter variations. Owing to this control constraint, the load requirements are fulfilled by adding extra dc–dc chopper at the output. This paper presents a new control technique for a parallel–series/series IPT network, fed from a full-bridge current-source inverter to meet the load demand directly by an inverter. Therefore, the extra chopper stage at the output side of the converter is eliminated. The control goals are achieved through a two-loop control method, where the inner input current loop controls the source current and the outer output current loop meets the load requirements. The detailed steady-state operation, converter design, small-signal modeling, and control are reported, and experimental results obtained from a 1.6-kW lab prototype are included to verify the mathematical analysis. In this paper, performances on two kinds of aggregated flyback microinverters are compared in aspect of harmonic resonances, which are controlled by current feedback control and peak current control. Based on the Norton models of flyback microinverters obtained by a small-signal modeling approach, potential harmonic resonances with the grid are analyzed. Following that, an impedance-based stability criterion is proposed, where the resonance frequency can be calculated and predicted based on the derived Norton models and the system admittance matrix of aggregated microinverters. After comprehensive analysis and comparisons, it is found that the peak-current-control-based flyback microinverters has better performance on damping the harmonic resonances than the current feedback controlled one. Conventional power supply systems for xenon lamps have only limited applicability in sintering, because sintering needs to drive the lamp itself as well as enable instantaneous and strong discharge of voltage and current for generating intense light. This implies that, for sintering applications, a method should be developed that would enable instantaneous and strong discharge of energy. In this paper, we propose a new xenon lamp sintering system with an additional capacitor charger and bank. The proposed system features three power supplies. Two power supplies, called the trigger and the simmer, ionize gaseous xenon using a 23-kV trigger pulse output and sustain the ionized xenon gas using a 2.5-kW simmer power supply. The used trigger is also specially designed to conduct high current through its transformer, and it makes the proposed system an outstanding high voltage blocking capability. Another 36-kW power supply charges a 130-mF capacitor bank with a high-efficiency resonant converter. In addition, some components such as the simmer blocking diode and the trigger output capacitor are introduced, because combining different power supplies causes operational problems. These components are analyzed with some circuits that show its features, and finally, the validity of the suggested system was confirmed in two steps. First, the simmer power supply and the capacitor charger were tested for the rated operating performance by using a resistive load condition. As a result, the rated operation of the simmer power supply was confirmed under the 2.5-kW output condition, and the efficiency of the capacitor charger was found to be greater than 96% at the rated 36-kW rated load condition. In addition, a pulse discharge current of 900 A was also observed with the equivalent resistor load through a pulsed discharge experiment of the capacitor bank, which was charged at 1500 V. The trigger power supply, whose equivalent resistive load was difficult to realize, was experimented directly using the real xenon lamp to check the stable trigger operation of the xenon lamp at its 23-kV output pulse voltage. After the verification using the resistive load condition, the real operation and performance of the combined xenon lamp power supply system that includes three kinds of power supplies were finally tested and verified by using the actual xenon lamp as a total system. The conventional design of voltage-source power converters is based on a two-level half-bridge configuration and the selection of power devices designed to meet the full application specifications (voltage, current, etc.). This leads to the need to design and optimize a large number of different devices and their ancillary circuitry and prevents taking advantage from scale economies. This paper proposes a paradigm shift in the design of power converters through the use of a novel configurable device consisting on a matrix arrangement of highly optimized switching cells at a single voltage class. Each switching cell consists of a controlled switch with antiparallel diode together with a self-powered gate driver. By properly interconnecting the switching cells, the switching-cell array (SCA) can be configured as a multilevel active-clamped leg with a different number of levels. Thus, the SCA presents adjustable voltage and current ratings, according to the selected configuration. For maximum compactness, the SCA can be conceived to be only configurable by the device manufacturer upon the customer needs. For minimum cost, it can also be conceived to be configurable by the customer, leading to field-configurable SCAs. A new class of impedance networks is proposed in this paper. The proposed coupled-inductors-based impedance cells, called the series and the tapped switched-coupled-inductors, are employed within the (quasi) switched boost networks. The achieved impedance networks based on the proposed cells offer very high conversion gains with less-than-unity turn ratios (n < 1), which simplifies the realization of the magnetic element and at the same time reduces the number and size of passive components. The high boosting capability is achieved with small shoot-through durations that bring some additional advantages, such as low ratings of switching devices. The circuit analysis and operation concepts as well as a design procedure for the components of the proposed impedance networks are presented. Three-phase bridge converter is popular in ac–dc power conversion. The conventional sensor control with inner current loop and outer voltage loop is often used to control the three-phase bridge converter. Many three-phase sensorless control methods had been proposed to control the bridge converter with considering the inductance and inductor resistance. In this paper, the voltage drop of the power semiconductor is first considered in the proposed three-phase current sensorless control method. At first, the dynamic behaviors of three-phase bridge converter for power factor correction (PFC) applications are studied, and its equivalent three-switch model is developed. Based on this developed model, three-phase current sensorless control with only voltage controller is proposed. Additionally, the voltage-loop transfer function of PFC bridge converter controlled by the proposed method is modeled, and the result is helpful to obtain the controller parameter. The proposed control method is implemented on the DSP-based platform for evaluation. Finally, the provided simulation and experimental results demonstrate the performance of the proposed method. This paper proposes a transformerless line-interactive uninterruptible power supply (UPS) with low ground leakage current. A high-efficiency bidirectional inverter is suggested, which performs the line-interactive UPS functions with low ground leakage current. It has a full-bridge inverter and a bidirectional switch, which operate with the unipolar pulsewidth modulation. Because the bidirectional switch operates at the line-frequency, switching losses can be lower than the previous transformerless inverters. As the inverter operates, the parasitic capacitance between the inverter and the ac voltage ground is clamped to zero voltage for a positive line cycle and to the ac voltage for a negative line cycle, respectively. Thus, the parasitic capacitance can be prevented from being charged or discharged, which ensures the absence of the ground leakage current. The operation modes of the proposed system are described. The control schemes are presented to design the proposed inverter for the line-interactive UPS. This paper presents a passivity-based control (PBC) scheme for the switched reluctance generator (SRG) in small-scale wind energy conversion systems for dc microgrid applications. The main objective is to stabilize the output voltage in case the system supplies constant power loads (CPLs) and operates with maximum power point tracking (MPPT). Stability improvement and dc-link ripple reduction in the presence of CPLs is achieved using system-level modeling of SRG-based dc microgrid through the Euler-Lagrange system (ELS) from the viewpoint of the machine physical structure. Compared with other control methods, the proposed MPPT method based on passivity-based speed controller employs the back electromotive force (EMF) in the generation process as a position-dependent voltage source to overcome the major challenge of SRG complicated uncertain dynamic model. To deal with the time-varying inductance and back EMF of SRG, an adaptation mechanism is incorporated in the proposed adaptive PBC and the control design is constructed by using the Lyapunov theorem where the closed-loop stability is ensured. The effectiveness of the proposed method in avoiding instability effects of SRG and CPL with voltage ripple reduction and precise wind turbine speed tracking is investigated with simulation results and validated with experimental by using a four-phase, 8/6 SRG drive system. A major advantage of the dual active bridge (DAB) dc–dc converter is its ability to operate under zero voltage switching (ZVS) conditions to reduce switching losses. However, when the ac link coupling transformer is conventionally designed to minimize its magnetizing current, nonideal switching conditions almost invariably lead to hard switching operation at particular power transfer levels and dc–dc voltage ratios. This paper presents a mathematically based design approach for a coupling transformer with a reduced magnetizing inductance that creates just sufficient ac link circulating current to maintain continuous ZVS operation over the converter's entire specified operating range without incurring significant additional losses. The required magnetizing inductance reduction is found to be a function of the inherent transformer leakage inductances, switching dead-time, and device parasitic capacitances. In this paper, a new nonisolated high step-up dc–dc converter is proposed. Active–passive inductor cells (APICs) are used to extend the topology. The ability to achieve high gains is the main merit of the proposed topology. The proposed converter operates based on parallel charging and series discharging of the inductors. The converter also achieves high step-up voltage gain with appropriate duty cycle and low voltage and current stress on the power switches and diodes. The proposed converter is analyzed in operation modes. The main parameters of the converter such as voltage gain, voltage stress of semiconductor devices are calculated to compare with other structures. Considering the output voltage ripple and filter size, the proposed converter is designed. Moreover, the losses and efficiency of the converter are calculated. This paper proposes a novel nonisolated single-input dual-output three-level dc–dc converter (SIDO-TLC) appropriate for medium- and high-voltage applications. The SIDO-TLC is an integration of the three-level buck and boost converters, whose output voltages are regulated simultaneously. Reducing voltage stress across semiconductor devices, improving efficiency, and reducing inductors size are among the main merits of the new topology. Moreover, due to the considerably reduced volume of the step-down filter capacitor, a small film capacitor can be used instead, whose advantages are lower equivalent series resistance and a longer lifespan. A closed-loop control system has been designed based on a small-signal model derivation in order to regulate the output voltages along with the capacitors’ voltage balancing. In order to verify the theoretical and simulation results, a 300-W prototype was built and experimented. The results prove the aforementioned advantages of the SIDO-TLC, and the high effectiveness of the balancing control strategy. In this paper, a three-level quasi-switched boost T-type inverter (3L qSBT2I) is proposed. A new pulse-width modulated (PWM) control method is presented to reduce the inductor current ripple of the qSBT2 I. In the introduced PWM technique, the shoot-through duty cycle is maintained constant to keep the modulation index as high as possible. Then, the only control parameters of the qSBT2I are the duty cycles of the two additional switches. By controlling the duty cycles of the two additional switches, the voltage gain of the proposed qSBT2 I can be improved to a value larger than that of the conventional 3L impedance source inverters. The steady-state analysis, operating principles, and comparisons with the impedance source-based 3L inverters are presented. A 1-kW prototype is constructed to verify the operating principle of the 3L qSBT2I. This paper presents the development of an effective space vector modulation (SVM) regarding matrix converters (MCs) for the full range of the voltage transfer ratio (VTR), whereby a superior output performance was achieved. The proposed method uses all of the vectors adjacent to the reference output-voltage vector in one sector to build a unique general switching pattern to drive the MC. For the purpose of pursuing the high output performance of MCs, the proposed switching pattern can be applied to low and high VTRs with a unique modulation strategy owing to generalized equations. In this paper, a self-oscillating soft-switched converter for light-emitting-diode (LED) driver application is presented. In the proposed converter, the self-oscillation conditions are provided with a low number of additional components, and this converter provides a zero-current switching (ZCS) condition for instant switch turn-OFF. This converter does not need additional output current feedback because the output current changes only 10% when the output voltage changes by 33%. The self-oscillating part of this converter applies three low-power BJT and guarantees a soft-switching condition. The proposed self-oscillating control circuit can be implemented with a low cost since it does not need any IC and power supply for the control circuit. The proposed self-oscillating circuit detects the proper moment to turn the switch OFF under the ZCS condition. In order to justify the validity of theoretical analysis, the results of the implemented prototype for driving an LED string are presented. The measured power factor of the prototype shows that, although the input current of the converter is not sinusoidal, this converter can meet the IEC61000-3-2 standard at an operating power of less than 25 W, in addition to having a simple structure and achieving the robust ZCS condition. This paper introduces a switched-capacitor dc combiner suitable for energy harvesting applications. Since the dc voltage is small, addition of the voltages from different sources can boost the final output voltage with self-startup capability. This approach is valid for any number of dc voltage sources. To prove the energy harvesting principle, three sources are selected. The design of the three-input dc combiner, with no closed-loop controller, is fabricated in 0.13-\mu\textm CMOS technology and the chip area is 1.5 × 1.5 \textmm^2. With integrated tunable thyristor-based differential oscillators, the chip can combine power from all three inputs. Manual frequency modulation is used to deliver the maximum power to the load. The system has proven to be functional even if one or two of the sources is/are weak or not available. Finally, for indoor conditions, the power from three different solar cells is combined where 70 $\mu$ W is harvested with an open-circuit voltage of 1.4 V and the short-circuit current of 160 $\mu$A. In the hybrid ac–dc microgrid, the ac and dc subgrids are connected by bidirectional power converters (BPCs) that play an important role in the load power sharing and power interaction between the ac and dc subgrids. The coordination control and circulating current suppression for the parallel BPC system are very challenging. In this paper, a decentralized coordination control method is proposed for parallel three-phase BPCs, which can suppress the circulating currents, realize proper power interaction, and achieve overall load power sharing in both the grid-connected mode and the islanded mode. This paper proposes a zero-sequence circulating current (ZSCC) control scheme for the multiparalleled three-level T-type inverters (3LT2Is). Based on the analysis with the proposed generalized model of multiparalleled 3LT2Is, it is seen that the ZSCC is influenced by the circuit parameters, duty cycles, and the circulating currents of the l th and first 3LT2I. To mitigate the circulating currents, a deadbeat control strategy for n-paralleled (n≥3) inverters is proposed, which is realized by adjusting the duty cycle of the small vectors in each PWM sampling period. Compared with the conventional PI control method, the ZSCC spike is mitigated with the proposed scheme, thus improving the quality of the output currents. Also, the reliability of the 3LT2Is system is improved because such a scheme only needs the information about the ZSCC and zero-sequence duty ratio in the l th and the first inverter. The self-sensing active magnetic bearing (SAMB) rotor systems own the benefits of reduced cost and better system integration, from the substitution of rotor displacement estimation for external sensors. However, the self-sensing errors between the real and estimated rotor displacement, together with the unbalance force and sensor runout, will act as disturbances that affect the SAMB rotor system, inducing current fluctuations and rotor vibrations. This paper presents a disturbance suppression method for the modulation-type SAMB rotor systems, in which both the amplitude and phase of disturbances are identified and real-time updated. A lumped multifrequency disturbances model is established. And a disturbances identification algorithm with object function value-based step vectors is proposed. The system stability and method convergence conditions are analyzed. The convergence rate, overshoot and antinoise capacity of the method are verified through simulations. In the end, the effectiveness and performance of the suppression method are validated through steady state and varying rotational speed experiments on a 4-DOF radial SAMB rigid rotor platform. This paper proposes an improved dc transformer (NDCT hereinafter) based on switched capacitor with reduced switches for the integration of low-voltage dc energy storage systems and medium-voltage dc power distribution grid. The topology, phase-shift (PS) shoot-through and multiple PS modulations, and voltage, current, and power characterizations, as well as commutation characterization and control strategy, are proposed and analyzed comprehensively. Compared with the traditional schemes, the proposed NDCT not only can enhance reliability and flexibility but can increase voltage adjustment and power transfer capabilities as well. Microinverters operating into the single-phase grid from new energy source with low-voltage output face the challenges of efficiency bottleneck and twice-line-frequency variation. This paper proposed a multilevel inverter based on bridge modular switched-capacitor (BMSC) circuits with its superiority in conversion efficiency and power density. The topology is composed of dc–dc and dc–ac stages with independent control for each stage, aiming to improve system stability and simplify the control method. The BMSC dc–dc stage, which can be expanded to synthesize more levels, not only features multilevel voltage gain but also partially replaces the original bulk input capacitor and functions as an active energy buffer to enhance power-decoupling ability between dc and ac sides. In dc–ac stage, the control strategy of optimized unipolar frequency doubling sine-wave pulse width modulation is proposed to improve the quality of output waveform. Meanwhile, the multilevel voltage phase has been optimized to further reduce the power loss. Finally, a prototype has been built and tested. This paper characterizes the sampling effect in digital sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) of voltage source inverter (VSI). The time-domain analysis presented in this paper establishes the relation between the fundamental frequency, carrier frequency, and the sampling frequency at different modulation indices of the SPWM. The analysis investigates the effect of sampling frequency of the digital controller on the output of the VSI. It is shown that the low-frequency harmonic components appear in the frequency spectrum of the VSI output voltage due to sampling. As a result, the output current of digitally controlled VSI is stepped in nature. The double Fourier integral solution of the switched waveform for inner and outer integral limits has been used to derive the expression. The integral solution is obtained using Jacobi-Anger expansions. The generalized results developed in this paper are useful to investigate the sampling effect in high switching frequency DSPWM. The proposed sampling effect has been analyzed for SPWM of single-phase H-bridge inverter. The analytical results are verified using simulation and experimental results. This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of the current-stress optimization and soft-switching operation of the isolated bidirectional dual active bridge (DAB) dc–dc converter with the unified triple-phase-shift (UTPS) control. On this basis, the current-stress-optimized modulation scheme is proposed for DAB, which leads to the minimum current stress with the required transmission power and voltage conversion ratio in the whole load range. Moreover, the full soft-switching operation is achieved for the converter simultaneously. Distinct from the previous modulation schemes, the proposed optimized modulation scheme is deduced from a unified analysis of TPS where all effective switching modes are investigated. A novel algorithm based on the Karush–Kuhn–Tucker (KKT) conditions is originally proposed to derive closed-form solutions for the global optimal control parameters. This paper also presents a typical closed-loop control strategy for DAB with TPS control and detailed descriptions about the closed-loop operation. Proper use of phase-controlled switching technology by controlling the making or breaking of the circuit breaker (CB) at predetermined phase angles of current or voltage can improve the service life of the CB, avoid relay protection device from mal-operation, and reduce the impact on the power grid when power equipment or load is energized or taken out. This paper proposes a novel phase-controlled switching method to address the influence of residual flux for three-phase wye winding unloaded transformers with three limbs, such as large capacitor variable frequency transformer or mine explosion-proof transformer. The optimal operation phase angle for CBs is firstly obtained via theoretical analysis. A model based on the alternative transients program/the electromagnetic transients program (ATP/EMTP) is then built to simulate the transient procedure of a power transformer during breaking and making. The simulated results confirm that the proposed switching strategy can reduce the excitation inrush current effectively when the unloaded transformers are energized. This paper presents a new and simple finite-control set model predictive control strategy to reduce the torque ripple in permanent-magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs). The method is based on minimizing a cost function that considers the flux linkage torque harmonics obtained from a discrete-time model of the machine. The power converter switching state that minimizes this cost function is selected and applied during a whole sampling period. Additionally, it is proposed to mitigate the other source of torque ripple, known as cogging-torque, using a feed-forward signal applied to the torque control loop. A hybrid method that uses the output information from an observer and look-up table is presented to obtain a good cogging-torque estimation and thus an accurate mitigation of this disturbance torque at low rotational speed. A new pulsewidth modulation (PWM) strategy which is an alternative approach of the discontinuous PWM (DPWM) for a three-level neutral-point-clamped (NPC) inverter is proposed in this paper. A three-level NPC inverter is completely mature and very well-established topology in high-power applications. However, the three-level NPC inverter has an inheritance problem of the neutral-point voltage unbalancing due to the split dc-link capacitors. This structure can cause large neutral-point voltage ripple. Furthermore, output currents of the three-level NPC inverter are distorted by the neutral-point voltage ripple. Therefore, the neutral-point voltage must be controlled. In this paper, a new DPWM method using two different offsets for the neutral-point ripple reduction is proposed and the effectiveness of the proposed DPWM method is verified by using the simulation and the experimental results. This paper proposes a new isolated single-stage single-switch power-factor-correction (S4 PFC) driver for supplying light-emitting diodes (LEDs) without electrolytic capacitor. In the proposed LED driver, the switch turns on under zero current switching (ZCS) condition. Also, it turns on at a voltage less than its nominal voltage stress, and therefore, the switch capacitive turn-on loss decreases too much extent. The leakage energy is absorbed, so there are no voltage spikes across the switch when the switch turns off. In this paper, operating principles of the proposed driver are discussed, and design considerations are presented. A conventional asymmetrical half-bridge (AHB) converter is widely used for dc–dc stage in low-to-medium power system. However, since the asymmetric operation of AHB converter causes the low efficiency over entire load condition, the conventional AHB converter is not usually considered for the candidate of server power system. In order to overcome the problems of the conventional AHB converter, a wide zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) range AHB converter with a clamp switch and a clamp diode is proposed in this paper. The proposed AHB converter (PAHBC) replaces a low-side clamp diode with a MOSFET switch and adds an auxiliary winding, which changes the transformer turns-ratio. From these modifications and the pulsewidth-modulation (PWM) control of clamp switch, the PAHBC can be designed optimally at nominal input condition and obtains additional dc gain at hold-up time condition. These advantages achieve the high conversion efficiency over the entire load condition. In this paper, a single-stage solution for solar photovoltaic (PV) pumping system using a dual-inverter fed open-end winding induction motor drive is presented. The three-level dual-inverter requires a low PV bus voltage compared with its conventional three-level counterpart. This could avoid large string of PV modules and helps in reducing the voltage rating of the capacitors and semiconductor devices used in the system. This may further help in reduction of cost of the system. The proposed single-stage system is operated using an integrated control algorithm, which includes the maximum power point tracking (MPPT), the $V/f$ control, and the sample-averaged zero-sequence elimination (SAZE) pulsewidth modulation (PWM) technique. While the MPPT algorithm ensures the extraction of maximum power from the PV source, the $V/f$ control improves the motor pump performance. Furthermore, the zero-sequence current is avoided by the SAZE PWM algorithm. Thus, the integrated control algorithm improves the overall performance of the system. This paper deals with embedded real-time (RT) simulators applied in power electronic applications and implemented in low-cost field-programmable gate arrays. Indeed, such simulators' intellectual properties (IPs) are not only intended for hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing but also can be advantageously embedded within digital controllers to ensure functions such as observation, estimation, diagnostic, or health monitoring. Conversely, to the HIL case, the main challenge when designing such simulators' IPs is to cope with their complexity having in mind that, in the case of embedded systems, the available hardware resources are limited due to the cost. Furthermore, this challenge is strengthened by the need of very short simulation time steps that is typically the case when simulating power converters. By this way, this paper presents the design of an embedded RT simulator of a three-phase grid-connected voltage-source rectifier, based on the associated discrete circuit modeling approach. This IP is associated with the one of a three-phase $RL$ filter, and both are implemented within the rectifier controller to estimate the grid currents. The latter is injected in the controller when a fault is detected in the current sensors. The traditional space-vector pulsewidth modulation (SVPWM) maximum voltage transfer ratio (VTR, i.e., the ratio of the output voltage fundamental amplitude to the input voltage fundamental amplitude) is 0.866 in a linear modulation region. In this paper, the output voltage fundamental amplitude and total harmonic distortion (THD) affected by a basic vector and a hexagon vector in traditional indirect SVPWM overmodulation are analyzed. The traditional indirect SVPWM overmodulation usually focuses on the inverter stage to improve the VTR, and there are few methods considering both of the inverter and rectifier stages to improve the overmodulation performance of a matrix converter (MC), including output voltage error, and output and input current THDs. In this paper, a new overmodulation method based on indirect SVPWM is presented. Both the output performance and input performance of the MC with the proposed and traditional overmodulation methods are emulated and tested. Simulation results indicate that the output voltage error and the input current THD are smaller and lower, respectively, with the proposed method. Single-stage power-factor-corrected (S2PFC) power supplies usually suffer from high voltage stress, due to lack of control on the intermediate bus capacitor voltage. In the past, analysis of such voltage stress was mostly based on steady-state condition without providing sufficient explanation during the transient circuit operation. This paper revisits the problem at circuit level and reports that the root cause is due to the inherent negative current feedback property of the output inductor or the transformer operating in continuous conduction mode (CCM). Based on the finding, this paper further proposes a new approach to reducing the voltage stress by adding an auxiliary circuit branch to existing S2PFC converters. The additional circuit branch limits the effect of negative current feedback by suppressing the change of output current slope due to change of load. This assists the pulsewidth modulation controller to track the change of load better such that the bus capacitor voltage range is reduced through duty cycle control. The auxiliary circuit branch also reduces reverse-recovery-related losses of the converter under CCM operation. One of the main technical challenges associated with the modular multilevel converter (MMC) for any application is the optimal control of its states. Optimal control of the MMC requires determination of the following: 1) an accurate MMC model, 2) the MMC states to be controlled and their corresponding reference trajectories, and 3) an appropriate controller type/form and its parameters. The aforementioned tasks lead to the formulation of a multistate control optimization problem, which is tackled in this paper. This paper enhances the accuracy of the existing MMC state-space model by including the following: 1) a piecewise affine insulated-gate bipolar transistor/diode model and 2) the impact of dead time. This paper also proposes a simulation-based gradient-descent optimization algorithm (cosimulation) to optimize the controller gains, given the controller type/form and the reference state trajectory. The theoretical proofs of the gradients required in the optimization algorithm are also provided. The aforementioned optimization algorithm is applied to a variable-frequency MMC-based drive system. Experimental results on a scaled-down prototype and simulation results on a real-world application are provided to validate the accuracy of the proposed MMC model and to show the effectiveness of the proposed optimization algorithm. A four-level five-phase open-end winding (OeW) drive topology is introduced in this paper. The drive comprises a five-phase induction machine with open-end stator windings, supplied using two two-level voltage-source inverters with isolated and unequal dc-link voltages, in the ratio 2 : 1. The topology offers the advantages of a modular structure with fewer semiconductor components and has a greater potential for fault tolerance, as compared with an equivalent single-sided four-level drive. Due to the large number of switching states, development of a suitable space vector pulsewidth-modulation (PWM) method can be challenging. Hence, this paper examines the implementation of two-level-shifted carrier-based PWM methods. The effect of dead time on the drive performance is discussed, and it is shown that simultaneous PWM switching of both inverters can lead to degraded output phase voltage waveforms. Detailed analysis of this phenomenon is presented, a solution is proposed, and the modified modulation techniques are incorporated in an experimental setup, at first in conjunction with $V/f$ control. Once the proof of concept has been provided, full field-oriented control is implemented in this OeW drive topology for the first time; detailed experimental testing is conducted, and results are reported.
