With the deepening of electricity market reform in China, the competition in the electricity retail market becomes increasingly intense. Electricity retailers (ERs) need to explore new business models to enhance their competitiveness in the retail market. Meanwhile, with the improvement of industrial production and people's living standards, more and more nonlinear electrical equipment have been put into use, leading to severe harmonic pollution problems. Harmonic pollution causes loss of electricity, resulting in the economic loss of customers, especially for large industrial customers. In the above contexts, this paper proposes a novel business model that incorporates harmonic control as a value-added service into electricity retail contracts for utility-owned ERs. Both utility-owned ERs and customers can benefit from the designed business model. For customers, it helps them to improve the power quality while saving the electricity cost. For ERs, it helps them to cultivate the customer loyalty and improve the customer satisfaction. A case study is performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed business model. Due to the growing demand on renewable energy, photovoltaic (PV) generation systems have increased considerably in recent years. However, the power output of PV systems is affected by different weather conditions. Accurate forecasting of PV power output is important for system reliability and promoting large-scale PV deployment. This paper proposes algorithms to forecast power output of PV systems based upon weather classification and support vector machines (SVM). In the process, the weather conditions are divided into four types which are clear sky, cloudy day, foggy day, and rainy day. In this paper, a one-day-ahead PV power output forecasting model for a single station is derived based on the weather forecasting data, actual historical power output data, and the principle of SVM. After applying it into a PV station in China (the capability is 20 kW), results show the proposed forecasting model for grid-connected PV systems is effective and promising. Reliable emergency power supply is essential to fire services installations. However, the extent of reliability and availability of standby generators in Hong Kong buildings are a query so far. This paper presents a generator reliability survey in Hong Kong. The results regarding fault events, reliability, and availability of standby generators are shown by means of analysis of their fault/failure records. In this paper, a special control solution called virtual voltage source (VVS) is developed for no-load tests of induction machines. This concept is applied to a 2 × 27 MVA high-power machine test bench where the test bench is requested to precisely characterize, e.g., 3 MW machines at no-load currents. The developed VVS thoroughly solves the stability issue of induction machines at low-speed ranges. A set of optimizations is presented here that systematically improves the voltage precision of the test bench. Experimental results prove that the proposed concept achieves 0.08–0.12% voltage unbalance, less than 3% current unbalance, with less than 0.3% harmonic-voltage-factor, and verified by more than 100 induction machines. With the rapid development of China high-speed railway, the low frequency oscillation (LFO) of electrical quantities appears more often recently and leads to some severe problems of train operation. To improve the traction line-side converter control and suppress the phenomenon economically and effectively, a model-based predictive direct power control (MPDPC) approach is proposed in this paper. The approach adopts a discrete-time model of traction line-side converter in d–q reference frame to predict the future values of the input active and reactive power. The optimal switching state is selected by minimizing a cost function of power to evaluate the power errors at the next sampling time. Through the theoretical analysis and simulations, the performance of MPDPC is compared with traditional transient direct current control (TDCC) that is widely adopted in China Railway High-Speed 3 electric-multiple-unit. The real-time online simulations based on Real-Time Laboratory (RT-LAB) are also realized to further validate the results. Moreover, two vehicle-grid cascade simulation systems are constructed, and the LFO suppressing capability of MPDPC and TDCC is compared. Finally, the steady-state characteristic, dynamic characteristic, and LFO suppressing capability of MPDPC are demonstrated through the analysis of key performance indexes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With the increasing demand of electricity, the development of the urban power grid has drawn a lot of attention in China. In order to focus on the analysis of an urban power grid, the remaining part of the large-scale power grid used is to be reduced. The accuracy of the equivalence is key to urban power grid research. In this paper, a multistep dynamic equivalent method based on district dividing is proposed. Based on the electrical distance, voltage level, and geographic location, the external system is divided into outer layer, inner layer, and buffer subsystem. Long-term electricity consumption forecasting has been a hot issue due to its importance in power systems planning. Recently, system dynamics (SD) have been considered a potential method for electricity consumption forecasting. However, traditional SD methods are failed in forecasting future power systems toward low-carbon, due to the complex influencing factors and the simple SD model structure. In this study, a novel method combining SD and the ImPACT equation is proposed to solve the above problem. First, a new influencing factor system including emerging factors is established to consider the development of future power system. Subsequently, the ImPACT equation is employed to decompose the electricity consumption into four subsystems. By doing this, the linkage between factors and electricity consumption can be better revealed, which helps to improve the forecasting accuracy. Next, models for quantifying the correlation between subsystems and factors are established using SD. Finally, the proposed method is verified by forecasting the power consumption of China in the future year 2030 to 2050. Furthermore, various scenarios are set to analyze the changing trend of future power consumption by different influencing factors. With the ever-increasing installation of large-capacity ultrahigh-voltage direct current (UHVdc) links, the “strong dc link and weak ac network” issue has become prominent for many regional grids in China. The transmission expansion planning (TEP) problem of such grids has been facing a significant challenge to cope with the coordination between the UHVdc links and the ultrahigh/high voltage alternating current (UHVac/HVac) network. To handle this issue, this article proposes a multistage robust TEP (RTEP) model of ultrahigh-voltage ac–dc hybrid grids. This model explicitly takes into account multiple types of uncertainties, i.e., credible contingencies occurring in the ac network, large power imbalances due to the UHVdc bipole blocking, as well as the long-/short-term uncertainty. Wasserstein metric is used to reformulate the uncertainty set and the worst-case constraints. A column-and-constraint generation based solution approach is developed in order to ensure tractability of the RTEP model. Iron and steel industry is the pillar industry of China, providing a solid foundation for China's industrialization. While steel plants are energy intensive mainly consuming coal and electricity, and their power consumption tends to be higher proportional in the near future, due to global confidence of peak and neutrality carbon dioxide emission, electrical substitution, and ongoing energy use right transaction. Thus, these plants will have larger potential to participate in the friendly interaction between power supply and demand. The adjustable potential of purchased power load exists in two aspects: one is the controllable resources of inner energy supply and use system, and the other is the energy schedule regulation accompanied by production process adjustment, which is rarely considered in current energy management research of steel plants. Based on the flexibility analysis of production process control without affecting productivity, the adjustment model of steel-rolling lines, air separation and electric arc furnaces on iron-making line is formulated here, as well as the corresponding energy consumed in these processes. Combined with the optimization of multienergy coupling system and production processes, a joint evaluation model of maximum dispatching potential and duration is proposed and solved by mixed-integer linear programming solver. Simulation result shows the feasibility of the proposed dispatching potential evaluation method and the effectiveness to take the production process adjustment with energy-systemscheduling. An increasing number of residential customers have installed hybrid rooftop solar battery systems (HRSBSs). Currently, most HRSBSs are installed behind-the-meter (BTM), where only customers’ net load is measured by smart meters. This invisibility poses significant challenges to the system operation. Disaggregating BTM PV generation and battery charging/discharging profile of customers can enhance the grid-edge observability. This article proposes an energy disaggregation method to jointly separate the PV generation and battery charging/discharging power from the net load. First, a Home Smart Battery Management model is built to simulate the battery charging/discharging profile. Second, an optimal disaggregation model is established based on a contextually supervised source separation method. Furthermore, the feature vectors of PV, load, and battery are extracted as the input of the disaggregation model. As a kind of zero-carbon and high-efficiency energy, hydrogen has attracted more attention with clean energy technology development. However, large-scale green hydrogen application is difficult to promote because of its high production cost. China is rich in water resources, but the utilization rate is low, which causes serious water abandonment problems. This article studies the optimal operation of combined cascade reservoir and hydrogen system to improve the utilization of water resources and the system's economic benefits. In this article, a multi-objective nonlinear model is established. An expanded progressive optimization algorithm is adopted to solve the problem more efficiently and accurately. The weights of objective functions are discussed with data from the Hongru River Basin in China. The rationality and effectiveness of combining cascade reservoir and hydrogen system are verified through the optimal operation of water resources and the optimal allocation of power and hydrogen. As a new energy vehicle, fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) have the advantages of pollution-free and zero-emission, which have attracted wide attention from all over the world. By predicting the ownership of FCVs, decision-makers can grasp the future development potential of FCVs, so that the national government can adopt corresponding policies and measures. To this end, based on analyzing the development trend of FCVs, this article proposes an FCVs ownership prediction method based on the generalized Bass model. From the perspective of technology, application, and market conditions of FCVs, this article first analyzes the development trend of FCVs in the future, which provides the basis for the establishment of the ownership prediction method and the estimation of model parameters. Then, considering the influence of levelized cost of driving (LCD) reduction and hydrogen refueling stations (HRSs) constructions, a prediction method of FCVs ownership based on the generalized Bass model is proposed, and the model parameters are estimated by Grey Verhulst model, electric vehicles data, and liquefied natural gas vehicles data. Through the proposed method, the ownership of FCVs in China from 2021 to 2070 is predicted and the results show that the ownership of FCVs in China will reach about 1.43 million in 2030 and about 10.41 million in 2040. Finally, through sensitivity analysis, this article discusses the influence of external factors such as policy, LCD, and HRSs on the market diffusion of FCVs, and puts forward corresponding suggestions. The community-integrated energy system (CIES) is an essential energy internet carrier that has recently been the focus of much attention. A scheduling model based on chance-constrained programming is proposed for integrated demand response (IDR) enabled CIES in uncertain environments to minimize the system operating costs, where an IDR program is used to explore the potential interaction ability of electricity–gas–heat flexible loads and electric vehicles. Moreover, power to gas (P2G) and microgas turbine (MT), as the links of multienergy carriers, are adopted to strengthen the coupling of different energy subsystems. Sequence operation theory and linearization methods are employed to transform the original model into a solvable mixed-integer linear programming model. The simulation results on a practical CIES in North China demonstrate an improvement in the CIES operational economy via the coordination of IDR and renewable uncertainties, with P2G and MT enhancing the system operational flexibility and user comprehensive satisfaction. The CIES operation is able to achieve a tradeoff between the economy and system reliability by setting a suitable confidence level for the spinning reserve constraints. This article proposes a novel optimal sizing method for the energy station in the multienergy system (MES) integrated with data center. First, an overall framework of the energy station, data center, and multienergy loads is constructed to describe the interconnection of energy system and information system. Then, the dynamic voltage frequency scaling (DVFS) technique, the thermal inertia, and the deep coupling relationships of the electricity load, waste heat, cooling load, and workload in the data center are respectively modeled. On this basis, the optimal sizing model of the energy station is established, in which the data center can participate in the integrated demand response by the DVFS technique and thermal inertia. The capacity of energy station and the scheduling schemes of energy devices and servers are optimized simultaneously to coordinate the energy flow and information flow. Based on the quasi-steady-state assumption of thermal balance, the model is simplified to a mixed-integer quadratic program problem, and it is solved by Gurobi. Case studies based on a real-world test system in China illustrate that the integration of data center can be utilized to reduce the total cost of energy station planning in MES. The single-phase-to-ground fault (SPGF) affects the reliability and security of the distribution system greatly. Accurate online recognition of fault causes can help improve the efficiency of weak components finding and maintenance. In this article, various symptom features of the SPGF by typical causes are analyzed and a fuzzy inference system (FIS) for fault cause recognition is established for overhead lines in nonsolidly earthed distribution networks. Based on the survey of fault causes in a certain city in China, artificial grounding experiments are designed for six typical fault causes, including arrester breakdown, insulator flashover, line-to-crossbar discharge, line fallen on wet mud, line fallen on wet sand, and line fallen into the pond for waveform data collection. Through multiple time–frequency analysis on waveform data of various causes, five features are extracted and the statistical results are obtained, including self-recoverability, zero current time, transition time, degree of distortion, and randomness. Based on the above, a FIS for cause recognition for SPGFs is established. Regional wind power prediction (WPP) is conducive to achieving scientific dispatch of the power system as well as improving its reliability. Data mining based on a large number of samples is an effective way to improve the accuracy of WPP. A new regional power forecasting method in the context of data mining is proposed in the article. First, a previously described regional WPP method, single feature similarity matching (SFSM) method, is analyzed and a new multifeature similarity matching (MFSM) method is proposed. Second, the optimization and analysis processes of four key parameters in the MFSM method are proposed and the impact of each key parameter on prediction error and the applicability of the method under different regional scales is analyzed. Finally, the new method and the optimization and analysis processes are verified by wind farm clusters, composed of 52 wind farms in northeast China, and the new method is compared with the conventional method, such as additive method, statistical up-scaling method, and the SFSM method. The results show that the improved MFSM method is superior to the conventional prediction method, whereby the root mean square error (RMSE) of 0 to 2 h is reduced by 3.65% and the RMSE of 0 to 4 h is reduced by 1.56%. The uncertainty of power system is intensified by the integration of large-scale renewable energy resources such as wind farm (WF). Considering the impact of system uncertainties, the probabilistic stability analysis methods have been used in the stability assessments of power system with the WF integration. However, in traditional probabilistic analysis methods, WF is normally considered as PQ bus or aggregated as one single-machine equivalent model regardless of wake effect, which might reduce the accuracy of probabilistic stability studies. In this article, a dynamic equivalent modeling method of WF for probabilistic stability assessments is proposed. The wake effect is considered in the modeling process and a practical four-machine clustering method is used in wind turbines clustering. Besides, the fisher discriminant analysis (FDA) is adopt to combine the similar WTs clustering results reasonably. Then, the WF is aggregated to a multi-machine equivalent model by capacity weighted method. Also, the established WF probabilistic model can be directly used in time-domain simulation based on Monte Carlo simulation and FDA. Due to the maturity of wide area measurement technology, phasor measurement unit (PMU)-based dynamic equivalent modeling method (PDM) has been wildly used in large-scale power system modeling. However, traditional “event-based” PDM equivalent model may face serious robustness issues, such as although derived equivalent models show the good ability on reproduction of the system behaviors under recorded events where they derived from, they may not work well for other possible disturbances. In this article, to improve the robustness of equivalent model, a novel method on dynamic equivalent modeling of power system is proposed. Based on the result of coherency identification, generators inside the equivalent system can be aggregated into different coherent subgroups and represented by multimachine equivalent model. Key parameter selection, which can shrink the scale of identified parameters, is designed to avoid multiple solutions of the equivalent model. Moreover, a multiobjective parameter identification algorithm is developed to fully consider the PMU measurements in different system events. In addition, hybrid dynamic simulation is performed so that each equivalent submodel can be identified separately.
