A multi-level boost topology based on a flying capacitor is compared in this work with the hybrid, multi-level, partial power processing topology already presented in the literature for use as a highly efficient and compact dc/dc stage in 1500-V, two-stage, grid-connected PV systems. Different variations of the resonant stage of the hybrid topology are analyzed and compared in terms of losses, volume and complexity. Full multivariable optimization is conducted for the multi-level boost topology with different number of levels and for all the analyzed variations of the resonant stage of the hybrid topology. Appropriately rated new classes of 650-V and 900-V WBG devices are included in the optimization algorithm. It is concluded that due to the dominant conduction losses and gap in the voltage rating of the commercially available WBG devices between 650V and 200V, increase of the number of levels over 4 leads to the deteriorated loss and volume performances. All the analysis related to the resonant stage of the hybrid topology is confirmed by detailed and comprehensive measurements of two prototypes of 4kW of nominal and 7kW of maximal power. Additionally, all the loss models applied in the optimization algorithms presented in this paper are confirmed by detailed measurements, thermal calibration and finite element thermal simulations of the wide bandgap devices and inductor designs employed in this work. This paper proposes a soft-switched modulation technique with synchronous rectification for an isolated single-stage single-phase matrix-type dc–ac converter. The dc side consists of a full bridge inverter, and the ac side is a 2×2 matrix converter-based cycloconverter. The proposed unipolar modulation strategy provides zero current switching/zero voltage switching (ZVS) for the ac side devices and ZVS-on for the dc side devices. It also allows natural commutation of the current flowing through the secondary side leakage inductor of the isolation transformer and the grid inductor during unity power factor (UPF) condition, thus eliminates the requirement of snubber circuit. An improved soft-switched flyback-based regenerative snubber circuit is also presented for non-UPF operation. Proposed snubber circuit recycles the energy stored in the snubber capacitors in every switching cycle. A guideline to design snubber circuit along with a comparative study is discussed in this paper. Performance of the proposed hybrid modulation technique is evaluated in an SiC mosfet based 1.2-kW dc–ac converter prototype. The use of electronic equipment and other dc-compatible appliances in homes and offices is increasing at a very fast rate, as well as the distributed generation of energy. These two statements will most likely trigger, in a near future, the adoption of district-scale dc grids, connecting dc microgeneration plants and consumers, in an effort to cut the number of conversion steps required to deliver power to dc appliances. DC–DC converters will be fundamental in these systems, allowing the establishment of several voltage levels. The reliability of these converters plays a critical role, ensuring service continuity of the loads connected to them. With the increment of reliability in mind, this paper proposes a simple yet effective open-circuit fault diagnostic method suitable for interleaved dc–dc boost converters, but equally functional for other dc–dc converter topologies. The improvements introduced in this paper greatly simplify the diagnostic action, while making the correct diagnostic of faults independent of the switching duty cycle. Moreover, an alternative reconfiguration scheme is proposed to mitigate the adverse impacts of such faults. Multioutput converters with single input source are currently studied as an alternative to conventional dc–dc topologies in order to improve power density in low-power multiload applications. This paper reviews three different ways in which a boost topology can be customized to supply multiple outputs. The first way uses a charge-sharing approach using individual switches to distribute inductor energy to different capacitors. The second method of creating a multiport converter (MPC) combines two converters with similar front end to generate two outputs using only one controlled switch. Using this method, a boost converter can be combined with single–ended primary–inductor converter (SEPIC), Cuk, and current source converter topologies. The third method uses time multiplexing of switches to produce two regulated ports and is referred to as switched-boost action. This method uses relatively less number of switches and allows regulation and control of all the outputs. Practical utility of switched-boost action based MPC is reported in this paper. This switched-boost MPC is applied to a renewable power converter system to interface a solar panel, a battery, and home loads to produce a 12-V and a 48-V bus. The 12-V bus is interfaced to battery and capable of optimally charging the battery in constant current–constant voltage (CC-CV) mode. The converter is demonstrated to operate with solar panel as it supplies a 12-V battery and a 48-V load bus. A breaker-less shipboard medium-voltage dc (MVDC) system is gaining more attention recently due to its advantage in dealing with a dc fault by using switched-mode power modules and disconnectors. The specific power module investigated in this paper is the power conversion module (PCM) that transforms power from a MVDC to a low-voltage dc (LVDC) bus. The PCM plays an important role in a system-level fault management. The recently emerging isolated modular multilevel dc/dc converter and the widely used dual active bridge converter are promising solutions for PCM applications. The control algorithms including fault protection strategy for both topologies have been developed and presented in this paper. The MVDC side fault and LVDC side fault of each topology has been analyzed and evaluated. In this paper, it is described how the circulating current flows between inverters that have isolated dc link such as cascaded H-bridge (CHB) topology when they are operating in parallel. In this case, zero sequence circulating current, which normally flows through shared dc link, cannot flow between inverters in parallel. However, circulating current is provoked by asynchronous switching instant of devices, difference of dc-link voltages of parallel inverters, and unbalanced impedance. The circulating current should be suppressed by a sharing inductor that is inserted between inverters. Generally, all of the inverters should synthesize the same output voltage reference for load current control to minimize the size of this sharing reactor. However, this conventional method cannot guarantee diminishing circulating current in the transient state and even in the steady state. In this paper, in order to reduce sharing reactance, after deriving circulating current model from general case of n-parallel operation, circulating current control method is devised based on the model. This proposed algorithm is applied to active front end five-level-CHB inverter system for medium voltage drive. High penetration of renewable energy sources, such as photovoltaic (PV), promotes the clean and sustainable energy spread. Subject to the environmental conditions, intermittency in irradiation change poses the challenge in terms of variable power input to the electrical system. Conventional interfacing power converters such as a boost converter integrating photovoltaic source to the dc utility microgrid in order to push the requisite power to the microgrid suffer from increased stress, resulting in a drop of the system efficiency and possible shutdown of the system. This paper proposes a continuous input current, modular T-impedance boost converter for photovoltaic applications. The boosting capabilities of the converter during both normal boost and shoot-through conditions ensure efficient operation over wide input voltages with reduced stress on the switches. The proposed half-bridge floating ground structure restricts the flow of the common-mode current through the converter. The converter response under intermittent irradiation changes and partial shading conditions are simulated under MATLAB Simulink environment and also are experimentally validated to affirm the capability of the converter. Unipolar-pulsewidth modulation (UP-PWM) inverter takes advantages of high power efficiency and small output chokes which is widely used in the industry. However, UP-PWM inverters cannot be used in parallel operation due to a current unbalance problem. This paper studies the current unbalance problem of paralleled UP-PWM inverters with common dc bus and ac bus. First, the problem of unbalanced inductor current is defined and analyzed. Second, a technique to eliminate unbalanced currents is proposed. The proposed current balancing technique only requires one more current sensor in an inverter module rather than changing converter topology or modulation method, which makes it possible to apply UP-PWM inverters in parallel-operation while keeping the advantages of unipolar switching. The proposed current balancing method is verified by both simulation and hardware experiment. The increasing transistor power loss brought by the high switching frequency places a limit to the future high power density converter design. A review of resonant gate drivers is given in this paper to provide a vision for its future application. Various resonant gate driver topologies from the prior-art research is categorized and thoroughly compared in terms of the implementation frequency and the percentage gate driver loss reduction. Moreover, a case study of two representative resonant gate driver topologies is given. The conventional gate drive and two resonant gate drivers are implemented to driver Silicon MOSFETs and Gallium Nitride transistors, respectively. The feasibility and effectiveness of implementing resonant gate drivers in wide-bandgap semiconductor transistors is discussed according to a detailed comparison of loss decomposition. This paper presents a three-port three-phase current-fed dc–dc converter with high-frequency isolation and bidirectional power flow. Port I is fed by a battery bank, port II employs a set of photovoltaic modules, and port III is connected to a dc link. The topology uses three single-phase H-bridge cells in the primary side and a three-phase H-bridge converter in the secondary one. High-frequency isolation is ensured by three single-phase transformers connected in an open delta-wye configuration. The theoretical analysis is performed considering the fundamental component of the voltage across the transformers. Maximum power point tracking, the battery current, and the power flow between the primary and secondary sides are controlled by the use of variable duty cycle technique in the primary side and the use of phase-shift technique between the primary and secondary bridges. In order to validate the study, experimental results of the proposed system considering the dc rated voltages as 48 V/96 V/380 V for Ports I/II/III, respectively, and rated power of 3.5 kW are carried out. An improved bridgeless (BL) Cuk converter-based electric vehicle (EV) battery charger with high power factor and increased efficiency is designed and developed in this paper. It provides low cost and high-power-density-based charging solution for the EV. This charger incorporates less number of devices operating over one switching cycle, which reduces the additional conduction loss incurred by a diode bridge rectifier of the conventional charger. Hence, it improves the charger's efficiency. The added advantage of the proposed topology is that the unwanted capacitive coupling loop is removed, as well as the unwanted conduction through the body diode of the inactive switch in the previously developed BL Cuk converter is avoided. This significantly improves the charger's efficiency. For the constant current and constant voltage charging, the commands are synchronized by a flyback converter. The proposed charger draws a sinusoidal current from ac mains and the total harmonic distortion in the supply current is reduced to the limits specified by the IEC 61000-3-2 guidelines. Power density and size are important features in compact ac–dc power adapters today. The push for power density, however, requires high conversion efficiency to reduce thermal stresses and smaller magnetics to fit into the required volume. Flyback converters have traditionally been adopted in compact power adapters due to their simplicity, acceptable performance, and low cost. In this paper, we present the design and fabrication of a high-density laptop adapter with a single-stage clamped series-resonant converter as a possible alternative for power adapters in portable electronics. The target is to achieve power densities and scalability in power from 45 to 100\,\mathrm{W}. The converter is frequency controlled and all switches exhibit zero-current switching. In this paper, we show that by utilizing the magnetizing inductance, the converter can be tuned for zero-voltage switching, and by adding a switched capacitor circuit to extend the input voltage range, we can realize a very compact design that is suitable for power adapters with or without power factor correction. Low transformer stresses compared with Flyback-type designs enable high densities, even with a resonant magnetic. Prototype test results with a 45-W laptop adapter are presented. A switching-capacitor-based buck–boost converter (with common ground) for point of load applications is proposed in this paper. It is capable of operating in stand-alone buck or boost mode in addition to its primary operation of performing the buck–boost conversion. The striking feature of the proposed converter is low source current ripple content irrespective of its mode of operation (buck–boost, buck, or boost). First, feasible pulsewidth modulation schemes for the proposed converter are identified and thereafter the corresponding circuit performance analysis, steady-state analysis, and state-space modelling is established. Through steady-state analysis, voltage gain expressions are formulated and equations defining L-C components are derived in terms of their ripple quantities. The state-space models are used to formulate small-signal analysis and to obtain the relevant transfer functions required in the controller design. A voltage-mode/current-mode controller is designed, with a tradeoff in bandwidth, to control the proposed converter and transit it from buck to boost mode or vice versa seamlessly. A 30–55 W, 100 kHz, prototype point of load converter with 36-V input dc source is built to supply power at constant load voltage of either 48 or 28 V. The proposed paper presents the development of a highly efficient and highly immune misalignment tolerant loosely coupled inductive power transfer system using dynamic wireless power transfer concept to charge a 48-V battery bank at 500 W through a 16-cm airgap. In this paper, a fifth-order boost point-of-load converter is developed by cascading a modified fourth-order boost converter with a combination of L–C and diode. This topology has the following salient features: Single-switch topology, common ground between source and load, low-voltage stress across intermediate capacitors, and voltage gain same as other reported fifth-order boost converters with no common ground. Steady-state and dynamic analyses demonstrate the proposed converter's boosting feature and dynamic performance, respectively. A contoured robust Bode plot methodology is employed to design the robust voltage-mode controller to ensure load voltage regulation in the presence of uncertainties. The necessary and sufficient conditions under which the designed controller guarantees the load voltage regulation and robust stability are obtained. A step-by-step robust controller design procedure is outlined. The salient features of the proposed converter and its robust performance are studied analytically, using the MATLAB platform, and validated experimentally on a 60-W prototype module. This paper investigates a multilevel inverter composed of series/parallel-connected H-bridges. The presented structure can be used for applications in which the use of semiconductor switches with low-voltage and low-current ratings is intended. A comprehensive system model, an overall control strategy to adjust the output voltage with constant magnitude and frequency, and a level-shifted PWM (LS-PWM) strategy based on a voltage vectors unidimensional analysis and a plane analysis are presented. The LS-PWM is capable of mitigating the low-frequency circulating current, thus generating multilevel voltage signals with low harmonic distortion, maximum number of levels, and low dv/dt. In addition, considering a wide range of values of voltages and currents and various power levels, the total converter losses are reduced compared with the conventional multilevel converters. Two multilevel conventional inverters with the same number of semiconductor switches are used for comparison. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of the studied converter. This paper investigates power shunt filter topologies composed of three standard three-leg converters applied in either three or four-wire system. Compared with the usual three-phase shunt filter, the proposed ones allow us to reduce dc-link voltages, harmonic distortion or/and the semiconductor losses, and fault tolerant operation. Suitable control strategies to adjust filter and circulating currents, as well as the three dc-link voltages are presented. Two pulse-width modulation techniques are developed for the proposed topologies in order to achieve the best voltage-pulse pattern. Comparisons between these techniques are carried out in this paper. Parallel ac-link universal power converters are a relatively new class of power converters that can be configured as dc–dc, dc–ac, ac–dc, and ac–ac. These converters are extensions of a buck–boost converter in which the current of the inductor is alternating and the input and output can have any number of phases with any forms, voltage amplitude, or frequency. By placing a small capacitor in parallel with the link inductor, all the switches can benefit from soft switching. The main limitation of the parallel ac-link universal power converter is its large number of switches. A three-phase ac–ac configuration requires 24 unidirectional switches. This paper proposes two topologies based on the parallel ac-link universal power converters that significantly reduce the number of switches. One of the proposed topologies reduces the number of switches in a three-phase ac–ac configuration to 16. The other topology reduces the number of switches to 10. The latter can offer galvanic isolation with only a single-phase high-frequency transformer. A mobile charging system (MCS) for electric vehicles (EVs) is presented in this paper. The proposed MCS has a 2-MWh energy storage capacity for charging five EVs simultaneously with 75-kW individual charging rates. The MCS would be rechargeable from the available power substations (three phase, 480 V) with 375-kW charging rate. The appropriate modular power interface is designed and implemented between the MCS, batteries of the EVs, and the power substations. This paper presents a novel single-phase ac–ac converter with power factor correction and output current control for circuit-breaker testing according to the IEC 60898 standard. The important advantages of the proposed circuit are low component count and fast responses for the standard requirement, especially a current step at the beginning of the test. The proposed single-phase ac–ac converter can operate in either buck or boost mode to accommodate the need for a wide range of output current while satisfying the ramping and step current requirements in the standard. The control circuits consist of two parts, dc voltage control of dc-link capacitors and ac output current controls operating simultaneously. This paper reports an elegant approach to address two major challenges of transformerless grid-connected microinverters, common-mode earth leakage current and double-frequency power pulsation across the photovoltaic (PV) terminal. The proposed solution uses an embedded decoupling capacitor in a doubly grounded boost–buck ( $\acute{\mathrm{C}}$ uk) derived topology. An intelligent switching scheme ensures that a large swing of the decoupling capacitor voltage is easily accommodated. Thus, film capacitors can be used instead of electrolytic capacitors, which helps increase equipment lifetime. In this paper, a novel nonisolated bidirectional soft-switching dc–dc converter based on series power units (PU-BDC) with unipolar and bipolar structure for dc networks interconnection is proposed. All semiconductor devices in the PU-BDC operate under soft-switching conditions in both directions with low voltage stress. By operating in the discontinuous conduction mode, all switches and diodes are turned on naturally under zero current. By introducing an auxiliary zero-current-transition commutation cell in each power unit, zero current turn-off of all switches and diodes is achieved to reduce the turn-off loss. Besides, the PU-BDC has a transformerless structure with small volume and low cost, which makes it more suitable for small-scale or medium-scale dc networks and distributed generation systems. In addition, two types of bipolar PU-BDC are proposed to extend its application to bipolar dc networks interconnection. The control system was also optimized for grid-connection applications by providing an output voltage control strategy, a voltage gain control strategy, and a power control strategy to maintain the voltage level or keep a constant voltage gain of the networks and performing precise power control. Finally, simulations of a unipolar PU-BDC and a bipolar PU-BDC with three power units were implemented, and a 1.6-kW experimental prototype of the unipolar PU-BDC with three power units was developed to verify the effectiveness of the converter. This paper proposes a new high-gain soft-switching dc–dc topology based on a switched inductor boost converter (SIBC). A conventional SIBC as a high gain boost topology has the issues of high conduction loss in switching diodes and high switching loss in the main switches. Also, it has severe electromagnetic interference (EMI) issue due to high-frequency ringing formed by parasitic inductance and diode junction capacitors. The new topology is derived with the objective of achieving zero voltage switching (ZVS) turn on of the main switch. Instead of adding extra active clamp zero voltage transition (ZVT) path at the switching node, the proposed topology augments the auxiliary ZVT path to the switching diode path. This is achieved by replacing the switching diodes with synchronous switches. The new topology can achieve soft switching for all the switches and alleviate the EMI issue. All the diodes achieve zero current switching (ZCS) turn off without reverse recovery. Auxiliary switches have ZCS turn on and ZVS turn off, and the main switches have ZVS turn on. The soft-switching SIBC also reduces the conduction loss in the switching diodes. A numerical simulation in PLECS and a prototype hardware are built corresponding to a micro-inverter application with 100 kHz switching frequency. In this paper, a hybrid bidirectional dc–dc converter is presented, which is a combination of a switched-capacitor converter and an inductor-based converter with low component counts. The input current ripple and peak charging current are small with the help of the inductor. The proposed converter is applicable in the battery charge/discharge systems, such as the distributed renewable energy systems, battery equalizer, auxiliary power supplies, traction drive system, and dual-voltage automotive systems based in new electrical architecture concept, where common ground is not required and within the voltage-gain range of 2–6. A comprehensive analysis of the steady-state operation, small-signal model, and component stress is given. The comparison with an alternative topology shows the advantages of low component counts, low total capacitor voltage stress, low inductor current, and low total active switch stress for the 42/14 V voltage level. Permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMG) based direct-drive wind turbines (DDWTs) have recently drawn the attention of the wind power market given their low operation and maintenance cost, reliability, and longer lifetime. In this paper, a zero dc-link impedance topology for DDWT-PMG systems is presented. The proposed topology eliminates the use of the failure-prone dc bus capacitor by replacing the grid-side converter with a phasor pulse-width modulation (PPWM) boost current source inverter (CSI), also referred to as indirect boost matrix converter. Furthermore, the novelty of the proposed topology lies in utilizing the synchronous inductance of the PMG as the dc-link inductor required by the boost-CSI, thus decreasing the overall system weight and size. In addition, the PPWM boost-CSI enables a high voltage-boosting ratio, which allows the design of a low-voltage PMG. As a result, the PMG size, weight, and high-cost PM material volume can be decreased. The feasibility of the low-voltage generator is investigated through finite-element computations using as a base for comparison an existing 1.5-MW DDWT-PMG. This comparison demonstrates a reduction in the generator volume, PM material, and the total weight of the generator. Finally, the proposed topology is validated through simulations and experiments. This paper presents a single-stage light-emitting diode (LED) driver based on a bridgeless power factor correction (PFC) converter and a half-bridge CLCL resonant converter for street lighting applications. The proposed single-stage topology integrates the PFC converter and the CLCL resonant converter by sharing active power switches. The bridgeless PFC converter adopts two buck–boost circuits operating in discontinuous-conduction mode to achieve input-current shaping. It uses two diodes instead of a rectifier bridge to reduce the power loss caused by the diodes. Owing to its superior soft-switching characteristics, the CLCL resonant converter is used. The proposed LED driver has superior features, such as high efficiency, near unity power factor, low total harmonic distortion, and relatively few diodes. This paper presents a dc/dc buck–boost converter topology with high-voltage gain and dual outputs. Unlike many of the high step-down/step-up dc/dc converters, this topology uses a relatively ower number of LC components and three active semiconductor devices switched in a nonoverlapping way. Due to the duty cycle limitation, high gain (typically more than 4) is very difficult to achieve in a single-stage regular buck–boost dc/dc converter. In the proposed converter, the overall gains at both the output ports are nonlinear functions of duty-cycles of the power devices, which help achieve an overall step-down/step-up gain of 10–15. An experimental prototype converting 48 V dc to ±5 V dc at 100 W with closed loop control is developed in order to verify the operation and effectiveness of the proposed converter structure. In this paper, an electronic phase-shifting strategy has been optimized for a multiparallel configuration of line-commutated rectifiers with a common dc-bus voltage used in motor drive application. This feature makes the performance of the system independent of the load profile and maximizes its harmonic reduction ability. Boost-derived hybrid converter (BDHC) is a single-stage converter that produces both dc and ac output voltages. The operation of BDHC under continuous conduction mode is satisfactory. However, the nonzero discontinuous conduction mode (NZ-DCM) and standalone ac operation restrict the stable operation of the converter. To mitigate these limitations, modified BDHC (MBDHC) is proposed in this paper. The main idea behind these changes is to redeem NZ-DCM by forced continuous conduction mode (FCM). The adverse effect of NZ-DCM in a BDHC is analyzed in terms of ac output voltage total harmonic distortion, and dc output voltage ripple. This analysis is further extended for MBDHC to highlight the benefits of FCM. Moreover, for hybrid loads, the efficiency of MBDHC is compared with its counterpart BDHC and cascaded boost inverter. This paper proposes a single-stage three-phase-to-single-phase current-fed high step-up ac–dc matrix converter. The proposed converter inserts a boost-type matrix converter, which is formed by three boost inductors and six bidirectional switches, between a three-phase ac source and a Cockcroft–Walton voltage multiplier (CWVM). By using this topology associated with power factor correction technique, the proposed converter not only achieves almost unity power factor and sinusoidal input currents with low distortion but also obtains high voltage gain at the output end. Moreover, the matrix converter generates an adjustable-frequency and adjustable-amplitude current, which injects into the CWVM to regulate the dc output voltage and smooth its ripple. With this flexible injection current, the performance of the proposed converter is superior to the conventional CWVM, which is usually energized by a single-phase ac source. For the high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) power transmission system of offshore wind power, dc/dc converters are the potential solution to collect the power generated by off-shore wind farms to HVDC terminals. The converters operate with high-voltage gain, high efficiency, and fault tolerance over a wide range of operating conditions. In this paper, an isolated ultrahigh step-up dc/dc converter with a scalable modular structure is proposed for HVDC offshore wind power collection. A flyback-forward converter is employed as the power cell to form the expandable electrically isolated modular dc/dc converter. The duty ratio and phase-shift angle control are also developed for the proposed converter. Fault-tolerant characteristics of the converter are illustrated through the redundancy operation and fault-ride-through tests. Redundancy operation is designed to maintain high operation efficiency of the converters and fault-ride-through operation improves the converter reliability under harsh operating conditions. Analytical studies are carried out, and a 750-W prototype with three modular cells is built and experimentally tested to verify the performance of the proposed modular dc/dc converter. A zero-current switching full-bridge isolated dc/dc converter based on a semiresonant L-C cell has been developed in this paper. With respect to the classical full-bridge configuration, no additional switches are required, thus by preserving its simplicity and robustness. The proposed architecture allows achieving zero-current switching at both primary and secondary sides. A 50-kW prototype has been developed and tested in different operating conditions. The experimental results are in agreement with the simulations by confirming the goodness of the proposed solution. A power factor preregulator (PFP) usually serves as the first stage of an active two-stage ac/dc converter in a variety of applications including inductive heating systems, wireless charging systems, and onboard chargers for plug-in electric vehicles. Conventionally, boost-type PFPs are utilized to regulate the dc-link voltage at a fixed voltage; however, a variable dc-link voltage can enhance the overall efficiency of the converters. In this paper, an interleaved single-ended primary inductor converter (SEPIC) with coupled inductors is proposed as the PFP stage for two-stage ac/dc converters. The converter is designed to operate in discontinuous conduction mode in order to achieve soft switching for switches and diodes. The directly coupled inductors are utilized to reduce the number of magnetic components and decrease the input current ripple. A 500-W interleaved SEPIC PFP prototype is designed to verify the benefits of this converter. A non-isolated impulse commutated current-fed voltage doubler based non-isolated inverter for a solar photovoltaic, battery or fuel cell application is proposed in this paper. Impulse commutation enables device voltage clamping with zero current commutation of the semiconductor devices. It eliminates the traditional problem of turn-off voltage spike across the devices in current-fed converters. Unlike resonant converters, resonance pulse appears for a very short interval leading to zero current turn-off of devices. It therefore, limits peak and circulating currents through the components. Voltage doubler is selected to achieve 2 $\times$ gain. Variable frequency modulation ensures output voltage regulation with input and load variations. This paper presents a single-phase ac–ac converter based on a modular multilevel cascade converter (MMCC) with double-star chopper cells (DSCC). The converter topology is composed of three DSCC legs, in which the middle leg is shared, and it does not present a common dc-link capacitor. It is suitable for nonregenerative or regenerative low-power and medium-power ac–ac conversions. A voltage-balancing control is presented for regulating the floating dc capacitor voltages. Furthermore, a grid current and load voltage control is presented to correct the input power factor and to ensure input/output sinusoidal waveforms. A phase-shifted carrier (PSC) pulsewidth modulation (PWM) commands submodules (SMs) using half of PSCs, preserving the characteristics of conventional modulation. Details about a downscaled prototype rated at 3.3 kW and 220 V are also presented. The experimental results allow validating the control strategies and the effectiveness of the proposed system. Diode rectifier front-ends with large dc bus capacitors used in variable-frequency drives draw discontinuous current from the power system, resulting in a poor input power factor and high input current distortion. The 12-pulse and 18-pulse techniques used to reduce input current harmonics are popular because of their simplicity but are bulky and expensive. Autotransformer techniques require additional external magnetic components that are bulky and add to the cost of the system. A new electronically isolated 12-pulse autotransformer topology that does not need bulky external magnetic components is proposed in this paper. The proposed topology employs active switches to achieve electronic isolation between the two rectifiers, resulting in continuous input current with reduced harmonics. The proposed nonregenerative active scheme achieves less than 5% total harmonic distortion at a much lower cost compared with other passive or active topologies currently in the market. This paper presents the performance analysis and comparison of two types of bidirectional dc–dc converters—cascaded buck–boost capacitor in the middle and cascaded buck–boost inductor in the middle for use in plug-in electric and hybrid electric vehicles. The comparison of the two converters is based on device requirements, rating of switches and components, control strategy, and performance. Each of the converter topologies has some advantages over the other in certain aspects. Efficiency analysis has been carried out for specific scenarios in vehicle applications. A single-stage offline power supply for LED lighting applications, based on the integration of a buck power factor corrector (PFC) and a tapped buck dc/dc converter, is presented in this paper. In addition to the high step-down capability and the output current regulation, the proposed topology effectively provides PFC to comply with the harmonic injection and energy-saving standards EN 61000-3-2 and Energy Star. The low bus voltage level, resulting from the use of an input step-down PFC stage, actually allows the use of film technology capacitors, instead of short lifetime electrolytic capacitors, to filter the bus voltage and reduce the LED current ripple component at twice the line frequency. Due to the high reliability, the simple structure, the good line-side spectral performance, and the low component count, the proposed topology effectively results to be very suitable for medium-power solid-state lighting applications, as in the case of LED downlighting. This paper presents a power decoupling method based on a four-switch three-port dc/dc/ac converter in dc microgrid. The proposed topology has three interfaces which can be connected with a dc source, a capacitor, and an ac port. With a corresponding power flow control method, this converter can decouple the low-frequency ripple power which is necessary for the ac port and undesirable for the dc source with small capacitor. The proposed topology is compact and cost-effective because, compared with the H-bridge inverter, no extra switches or devices are required. With the model of the proposed dc/dc/ac converter, a power control method with two inductors' current control is presented for power decoupling. This paper presents a new nonisolated buck/boost-type multilevel dc–dc converter suitable for high-power and medium/high-voltage application. The main features of the proposed topology are as follows: low voltage across the semiconductors, low switching losses, and reduced volume of the output filter. The theoretical analysis is carried out for a five-level bidirectional structure of the proposed converter, operating in Buck mode. The proposed topology presents some capacitors, and their voltage must be balanced for proper operation of the converter. Thus, a capacitor voltage balancing active control using a feedforward technique is proposed and analyzed in detail. In order to validate the theoretical analysis, a prototype with 10 kW output power capability, 1.3 kV to 800 V input-to-output voltage, and 20 kHz of switching frequency was built and experimented. This paper introduces a novel isolated hybrid resonant converter with smooth transition between multiple operating modes. With the simple addition of a bidirectional ac switch, the highly efficient series resonant converter operating in the discontinuous conduction mode is combined with a phase-shifted full-bridge buck converter and a pulsewidth-modulated boost converter in order to provide high power conversion efficiency over a wide input-voltage operating range utilizing a simple topology and simple control techniques. First, the topology is introduced, and the converter's operating modes are discussed. Next, closed-loop input-voltage controllers are designed for the different operating modes, and a smooth transition technique is introduced using a two-carrier modulation scheme. Experimental results are provided to verify the proposed system using a 300-W prototype that achieved a 97.5% California Energy Commission weighted efficiency with a 30-V input including all auxiliary and control losses. This paper introduces a three-phase ac–ac resonant converter with a high-frequency ac link, soft-switching operation, almost unity input power factor, step-up/down capability, and bidirectional power flow. The converter's link is composed of an ac inductor and a small ac capacitor. The link inductor transfers power by charging through the input and discharging to the output, and the link capacitor creates partial resonances to realize zero-voltage switching for all the switches of the converter. Therefore, the proposed topology is expected to have high reliability and long lifetime due to the soft-switching operation and exclusion of short-life electrolytic capacitors. The total number of switches in this novel topology is as low as 12, which is suitable for low- and medium-power applications. The basic operation of the converter includes eight modes, which are described in detail. The full analysis and optimal design of the proposed topology are provided as well. This paper presents a novel topology for a nonisolated bidirectional dc–dc converter with soft-switching capabilities, which usually operates at a zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) condition. A nonisolated dc–dc converter combines a buck converter and a backward boost converter into one circuit, which consists of a half-bridge power switch, an inductor, and capacitors. In order to realize ZVS conditions, the proposed converter utilizes a coupled inductor, a small independent inductor, and auxiliary switches and diodes. Due to ZVS, switching stress on switch components is reduced, and the reverse recovery problem of MOSFET antiparallel body diodes is also eliminated. Moreover, the operating modes of the proposed converter can be switched between a ZVS mode and a conventional hard-switching mode on the basis of load conditions. The soft-switching mode is for heavy loads, and the hard-switching mode is for light-load conditions. Therefore, the highest efficiency can be obtained at almost all load ranges. The single-phase inverter has inherent double-frequency power ripple, which if not internally mitigated, appears at the input port and deteriorates the maximum power point tracker performance. Conventional dc link inverter topologies filter this significant double-frequency ripple by means of the bus capacitance, usually in the form of electrolytic capacitors, which have well known lifetime challenges. This paper presents a double-frequency ripple cancellation concept and experimental proof of concept. The proposed module-integrated inverter is based on the commonly used two-stage inverter. However, a third port is added for ripple cancellation purposes. This paper presents a converter structure applied to supply high-power light-emitting diodes (LEDs) from the ac line in a street lighting system, based on the reduced redundant power processing principle. To guarantee high power factor and low harmonic distortion for the input ac current, a buck–boost operating in discontinuous conduction mode is employed as a power factor corrector. The second converter of the structure controls the current on the LED string, but it does not process all the power. This is done by summing the voltages of the first with the second converters. Avoiding the double processing of the power, the efficiency is improved. In addition to that, the capacitance value of the first converter is dramatically reduced by increasing the ripple limits, making possible the use of film capacitors to increase the life span of the system. The objective of this paper is focused on developing an interleaved four-phase current-fed converter with new voltage multiplier topology for low-voltage distributed energy generation systems. The proposed four-phase current-fed converter is with the interleaved configuration and preserving the inherent advantages of smaller input current ripple and smaller inductance size. Through the proposed topology, the high voltage gain can be achieved using the relatively lower transformer turns ratio. Also, the voltage stresses of both active switches and rectifier diodes are greatly reduced so that the low on-resistance active switches can be adopted, and the reverse-recovery effect of rectifier diodes can be decreased naturally. The dc and ac small signal models of the proposed converter topology are derived for better closed loop control, and some design guidelines are then given for circuit implementation. In this paper, a new front end ac–dc bridgeless interleaved power factor correction topology is proposed for level II plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) battery charging. The topology can achieve high efficiency, which is critical for minimizing the charger size, PHEV charging time and the amount and cost of electricity drawn from the utility. In addition, a detailed analytical model for this topology is presented, enabling the calculation of the converter power losses and efficiency. Experimental and simulation results are included for a prototype boost converter converting universal ac input voltage (85–265 V) to 400 V dc output at up to 3.4 kW load. The experimental results demonstrate a power factor greater than 0.99 from 750 W to 3.4 kW, THD less than 5% from half load to full load and a peak efficiency of 98.9% at 70 kHz switching frequency, 265 V input and 1.2 kW load. Diode rectifiers with large dc-bus capacitors, used in the front ends of variable-frequency drives (VFDs) and other ac-to-dc converters, draw discontinuous current from the power system, resulting in current distortion and, hence, voltage distortion. Typically, the power system can handle current distortion without showing signs of voltage distortion. However, when the majority of the load on a distribution feeder is made up of VFDs, current distortion becomes an important issue since it can cause voltage distortion. Multipulse techniques to reduce input current harmonics are popular because they do not interfere with the existing power system either from higher conducted electromagnetic interference, when active techniques are used, or from possible resonance, when capacitor-based filters are employed. In this paper, a new 18-pulse topology is proposed that has two six-pulse rectifiers powered via a phase-shifting isolation transformer, while the third six-pulse rectifier is fed directly from the ac source via a matching inductor. This idea relies on harmonic current cancellation strategy rather than flux cancellation method and results in lower overall harmonics.
