The Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem (BCH) codes are a well-studied subclass of cyclic codes that have found numerous applications in error correction and notably in quantum information processing. They are widely used in data storage and communication systems. A subclass of attractive BCH codes is the narrow-sense BCH codes over the Galois field ${\mathrm {GF}}(q)$ with length $q+1$ , which are closely related to the action of the projective general linear group of degree two on the projective line. Despite its interest, not much is known about this class of BCH codes. This paper aims to study some of the codes within this class and specifically narrow-sense antiprimitive BCH codes (these codes are also linear complementary duals (LCD) codes that have interesting practical recent applications in cryptography, among other benefits). We shall use tools and combine arguments from algebraic coding theory, combinatorial designs, and group theory (group actions, representation theory of finite groups, etc.) to investigate narrow-sense antiprimitive BCH Codes and extend results from the recent literature. Notably, the dimension, the minimum distance of some $q$ -ary BCH codes with length $q+1$ , and their duals are determined in this paper. The dual codes of the narrow-sense antiprimitive BCH codes derived in this paper include almost MDS codes. Furthermore, the classification of ${\mathrm {PGL}}(2, p^{m})$ -invariant codes over ${\mathrm {GF}}(p^{h})$ is completed. As an application of this result, the $p$ -ranks of all incidence structures invariant under the projective general linear group ${\mathrm {PGL}}(2, p^{m})$ are determined. Furthermore, infinite families of narrow-sense BCH codes admitting a 3-transitive automorphism group are obtained. Via these BCH codes, a coding-theory approach to constructing the Witt spherical geometry designs is presented. Constacyclic codes are well-known generalizations of cyclic and negacyclic codes. Due to their rich algebraic structure, constacyclic codes are used to construct quantum codes and symbol-pair codes. Let ${\mathbb {F}}_{q}$ be a finite field with order $q$ , where $q$ is a positive power of a prime $p$. Suppose that $n$ is a positive integer and the product of distinct prime factors of $n$ divides $q-1$ , i.e., $rad(n)\mid (q-1)$. In this paper, we explicitly factorize the polynomial $x^{n}-\lambda $ for each $\lambda \in {\mathbb {F}}_{q}^{*}$. As applications, first, we obtain all repeated-root $\lambda $ -constacyclic codes and their dual codes of length $np^{s}$ over ${\mathbb {F}}_{q}$ ; second, we determine all simple-root LCD cyclic codes and LCD negacyclic codes of length $n$ over ${\mathbb {F}}_{q}$ ; third, we list all self-dual repeated-root negacyclic codes of length $np^{s}$ over ${\mathbb {F}}_{q}$. The Euclidean hull of a linear code $C$ is the intersection of $C$ with its Euclidean dual $C^\perp $. The hull with low dimensions gets much interest due to its crucial role in determining the complexity of algorithms for computing the automorphism group of a linear code and for checking permutation equivalence of two linear codes. The Euclidean hull of a linear code has been applied to the so-called entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes (EAQECCs) via classical error-correcting codes. In this paper, we firstly consider linear codes with one-dimensional Euclidean hull from algebraic geometry codes, and then present a general method to construct linear codes with arbitrary dimensional Euclidean hull. The hull of a linear code is defined to be the intersection of the code and its dual, and was originally introduced to classify finite projective planes. The hull plays an important role in determining the complexity of algorithms for checking permutation equivalence of two linear codes and computing the automorphism group of a linear code. It has been shown that these algorithms are very effective in general if the size of the hull is small. The objective of this paper is to present some sufficient and necessary conditions that linear codes and cyclic codes have one-dimensional hull. It is shown that there are no such binary or ternary cyclic codes. Based on these characterizations, some constructions of linear codes with one-dimensional hull were given by employing quadratic number fields, partial difference sets, and difference sets. Linear codes with certain special properties have received renewed attention in recent years due to their practical applications. Among them, binary linear complementary dual (LCD) codes play an important role in implementations against side-channel attacks and fault injection attacks. Self-orthogonal codes can be used to construct quantum codes. In this paper, four classes of binary linear codes are constructed via a generic construction which has been intensively investigated in the past decade. Simple characterizations of these linear codes to be LCD or self-orthogonal are presented. Resultantly, infinite families of binary LCD codes and self-orthogonal codes are obtained. Infinite families of binary LCD codes from the duals of these four classes of linear codes are produced. Many LCD codes and self-orthogonal codes obtained in this paper are optimal or almost optimal in the sense that they meet certain bounds on general linear codes. It is well-known that cyclic codes have efficient encoding and decoding algorithms. In recent years, antiprimitive BCH codes have attracted a lot of attention. The objective of this paper is to study BCH codes of this type over finite fields and analyse their parameters. Some lower bounds on the minimum distance of antiprimitive BCH codes are given. The BCH codes presented in this paper have good parameters in general, containing many optimal linear codes. Linear complementary dual (LCD) codes are a class of linear codes introduced by Massey in 1964. LCD codes have been extensively studied in literature recently. In addition to their applications in data storage, communications systems, and consumer electronics, LCD codes have been employed in cryptography. More specifically, it has been shown that LCD codes can also help improve the security of the information processed by sensitive devices, especially against so-called side-channel attacks (SCA) and fault non-invasive attacks. In this paper, we are interested in the construction of particular algebraic geometry LCD codes which could be good candidates to be resistant against SCA. We firstly provide a construction scheme for obtaining LCD codes from any algebraic curve. Then, some explicit LCD codes from elliptic curves are presented. Maximum distance separable (MDS) codes are of the most importance in coding theory due to their theoretical significance and practical interests. In this paper, all the constructed LCD codes from elliptic curves are MDS or almost MDS. Some infinite classes of LCD codes from elliptic curves are optimal due to the Griesmer bound. Quantum error-correcting codes play the role of suppressing noise and decoherence in quantum systems by introducing redundancy. Some strategies can be used to improve the parameters of these codes. For example, entanglement can provide a way for quantum error-correcting codes to achieve higher rates than the one obtained by means of the traditional stabilizer formalism. Such codes are called entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting (EAQEC) codes. In this paper, we utilize algebraic geometry codes to construct several families of EAQEC codes derived from the Euclidean and the Hermitian construction. Three families constructed here consist of codes whose quantum Singleton defect is equal to zero, one, or two. We also construct families of EAQEC codes with an encoding rate exceeding the quantum Gilbert-Varshamov bound. Additionally, asymptotically good towers of linear complementary dual codes are used to obtain asymptotically good families of EAQEC codes consuming maximal entanglement. Furthermore, a simple comparison with the quantum Gilbert-Varshamov bound demonstrates that, by utilizing the proposed construction, it is possible to generate an asymptotically family of EAQEC codes that exceeds this bound. Self-orthogonal codes are an important type of linear codes due to their wide applications in communication and cryptography. The Euclidean (or Hermitian) hull of a linear code is defined to be the intersection of the code and its Euclidean (or Hermitian) dual. It is clear that the hull is self-orthogonal. The main goal of this paper is to obtain self-orthogonal codes by investigating the hulls. Let $\mathcal {C}_{(r,r^{m}-1,\delta,b)}$ be the primitive BCH code over $\mathbb {F}_{r}$ of length $r^{m}-1$ with designed distance $\delta $ , where $\mathbb {F}_{r}$ is the finite field of order $r$. In this paper, we will present Euclidean (or Hermitian) self-orthogonal codes and determine their parameters by investigating the Euclidean (or Hermitian) hulls of some primitive BCH codes. Several sufficient and necessary conditions for primitive BCH codes with large Hermitian hulls are developed by presenting lower and upper bounds on their designed distances. Furthermore, some Hermitian self-orthogonal codes are proposed via the hulls of BCH codes and their parameters are also investigated. In addition, we determine the dimensions of the code $\mathcal {C}_{(r,r^{2}-1,\delta,1)}$ and its hull in both Hermitian and Euclidean cases for $2 \le \delta \le r^{2}-1$. Both linear complementary dual (LCD) codes and maximum distance separable (MDS) codes have good algebraic structures, and they have interesting practical applications such as communication systems, data storage, quantum codes, and so on. So far, most of LCD MDS codes have been constructed by employing generalized Reed-Solomon codes. In this paper we construct some classes of new Euclidean LCD MDS codes and Hermitian LCD MDS codes which are not monomially equivalent to Reed-Solomon codes, called LCD MDS codes of non-Reed-Solomon type. Our method is based on the constructions of Beelen et al. (2017) and Roth and Lempel (1989). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first paper on the construction of LCD MDS codes of non-Reed-Solomon type; any LCD MDS code of non-Reed-Solomon type constructed by our method is not monomially equivalent to any LCD code constructed by the method of Carlet et al. Nowadays, the resistance against algebraic attacks and fast algebraic attacks are considered as an important cryptographic property for Boolean functions used in stream ciphers. Both attacks are very powerful analysis concepts and can be applied to symmetric cryptographic algorithms used in stream ciphers. The notion of algebraic immunity has received wide attention since it is a powerful tool to measure the resistance of a Boolean function to standard algebraic attacks. Nevertheless, an algebraic tool to handle the resistance to fast algebraic attacks is not clearly identified in the literature. In the current paper, we propose a new parameter to measure a Boolean function’s resistance to fast algebraic attack. We also introduce the notion of fast immunity profile and show that it informs both on the resistance to standard and fast algebraic attacks. Further, we evaluate our parameter for two secondary constructions of Boolean functions. Moreover, A coding-theory approach to the characterization of perfect algebraic immune functions is presented. Via this characterization, infinite families of binary linear complementary dual codes (or LCD codes for short) are obtained from perfect algebraic immune functions. Some of the binary LCD codes presented in this paper are optimal. These binary LCD codes have applications in armoring implementations against so-called side-channel attacks (SCA) and fault non-invasive attacks, in addition to their applications in communication and data storage systems. Linear complementary pairs (LCPs) of codes play an important role in armoring implementations against side-channel attacks and fault injection attacks. One of the most common ways to construct LCP of codes is to use Euclidean linear complementary dual (LCD) codes. In this paper, we first introduce the concept of linear codes with $\sigma $ complementary dual ($\sigma $ -LCD), which includes known Euclidean LCD codes, Hermitian LCD codes, and Galois LCD codes. Like Euclidean LCD codes, $\sigma $ -LCD codes can also be used to construct LCP of codes. We show that for $q > 2$ , all $q$ -ary linear codes are $\sigma $ -LCD, and for every binary linear code $\mathcal C$ , the code $\{0\}\times \mathcal C$ is $\sigma $ -LCD. Furthermore, we study deeply $\sigma $ -LCD generalized quasi-cyclic (GQC) codes. In particular, we provide the characterizations of $\sigma $ -LCD GQC codes, self-orthogonal GQC codes, and self-dual GQC codes, respectively. Moreover, we provide the constructions of asymptotically good $\sigma $ -LCD GQC codes. Finally, we focus on $\sigma $ -LCD abelian codes and prove that all abelian codes in a semi-simple group algebra are $\sigma $ -LCD. Maximum distance separable (MDS) codes are very important in both theory and practice. There is a classical construction of a family of $[{2^{m}+1, 2u-1, 2^{m}-2u+3}]$ MDS codes for $1 \leq u \leq 2^{m-1}$ , which are cyclic, reversible and BCH codes over ${\mathrm {GF}}(2^{m})$. The objective of this paper is to study the quaternary subfield subcodes and quaternary subfield codes of a subfamily of the MDS codes for even $m$. A family of quaternary cyclic codes is obtained. These quaternary codes are distance-optimal in some cases and very good in general. Furthermore, two infinite families of 3-designs from these quaternary codes and their duals are presented. The largest minimum weights among quaternary Hermitian linear complementary dual codes are known for dimension 2. In this paper, we give some conditions on the nonexistence of quaternary Hermitian linear complementary dual codes with large minimum weights. As a consequence, we completely determine the largest minimum weights for dimension 3, by using a classification of some quaternary codes. Linear complementary dual (LCD) cyclic codes were referred historically to as reversible cyclic codes, which had applications in data storage. Due to a newly discovered application in cryptography, there has been renewed interest in LCD codes. In particular, it has been shown that binary LCD codes play an important role in implementations against side-channel attacks and fault injection attacks. In this paper, we first present a new characterization of binary LCD codes in terms of their orthogonal or symplectic basis. Using such a characterization, we solve a conjecture proposed by Galvez et al. on the minimum distance of binary LCD codes. Next, we consider the action of the orthogonal group on the set of all LCD codes, determine all possible orbits of this action, derive simple closed formulas of the size of the orbits, and present some asymptotic results on the size of the corresponding orbits. Our results show that almost all binary LCD codes are odd-like codes with odd-like duals, and about half of $q$ -ary LCD codes have orthonormal basis, where $q$ is a power of an odd prime. In 1964, Massey introduced a class of codes with complementary duals which are called linear complimentary dual (LCD) codes. He showed that LCD codes have applications in communication system, side-channel attack and so on. LCD codes have been extensively studied in literature. On the other hand, MDS codes form an optimal family of classical codes which have wide applications in both theory and practice. It was shown by Massey that linear complementary dual (LCD) codes are asymptotically good. In 2004, Sendrier proved that LCD codes meet the asymptotic Gilbert–Varshamov (GV) bound. Until now, the GV bound still remains to be the best asymptotical lower bound for LCD codes. In this paper, we show that an algebraic geometry code over a finite field of even characteristic is equivalent to an LCD code and consequently there exists a family of LCD codes that are equivalent to algebraic geometry codes and exceed the asymptotical GV bound. A Goppa code over $\Bbb F_{q^{m}}$ is a well-known subclass of algebraic error-correcting code. If $m=1$ , then it is a generalized Reed-Solomon(GRS) code and its dual code is called a GRS code via a Goppa code. In this paper, we give a necessary and sufficient condition that the dual codes of GRS codes via (expurgated) Goppa codes are also GRS codes via Goppa codes. Under the above condition, we show that the hulls of GRS codes via Goppa codes are still GRS codes via Goppa codes. As an application, we characterize LCD GRS codes and self-dual GRS codes under the above condition. Some numerical examples are also presented to illustrate our main results. Bazzi and Mitter showed that binary dihedral group codes are asymptotically good. In this paper we prove that the dihedral group codes over any finite field with strong duality property are asymptotically good. If the characteristic of the field is even, self-dual dihedral group codes are asymptotically good. It is recently found that LCD codes can be applied in cryptography. This application of LCD codes renewed the interest in the construction of LCD codes having a large minimum distance. In this paper, we construct several classes of maximum distance separable (MDS) codes via generalized Reed-Solomon (GRS) codes and extended GRS codes, where we can determine the dimensions of their Euclidean hulls or Hermitian hulls. It turns out that the dimensions of Euclidean hulls or Hermitian hulls of the codes in our constructions can take all or almost all possible values. As a consequence, we can apply our results to entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes (EAQECCs) and obtain several new families of MDS EAQECCs with flexible parameters. The required number of maximally entangled states of these MDS EAQECCs can take all or almost all possible values. Let $\Bbb F_{q}$ be a finite field with $q$ elements and $p$ be a prime with $\gcd (p,q)=1$. Let $G$ be a finite abelian $p$ -group and $\Bbb F_{q}(G)$ be a group algebra. In this paper, we find all primitive idempotents and minimal abelian group codes in the group algebra $\Bbb F_{q}(G)$. LCD codes are linear codes with important cryptographic applications. Recently, a method has been presented to transform any linear code into an LCD code with the same parameters when it is supported on a finite field with cardinality larger than 3. Hence, the study of LCD codes is mainly open for binary and ternary fields. Subfield subcodes of $J$ -affine variety codes are a generalization of BCH codes which have been successfully used for constructing good quantum codes. Additive codes have become an increasingly important topic in algebraic coding theory due to their applications in quantum error-correction and quantum computing. Linear Complementary Dual (LCD) codes play an important role for improving the security of information against certain attacks. Motivated by these facts, we define additive complementary dual codes (ACD for short) over a finite abelian group in terms of an arbitrary duality on the ambient space and examine their properties. We show that the best minimum weight of ACD codes is always greater than or equal to the best minimum weight of LCD codes of the same size and that this inequality is often strict. We give some matrix constructions for quaternary ACD codes from a given quaternary ACD code and also from a given binary self-orthogonal code. Moreover, we construct an algorithm to determine if a given quaternary additive code is an ACD code with respect to all possible symmetric dualities. We also determine the largest minimum distance of quaternary ACD codes for lengths $n \leq 10$. The obtained codes are either optimal or near optimal according to Bierbrauer et al +. (2009). We study the codes of the title by the CRT method, that decomposes such codes into constituent codes, which are shorter codes over larger alphabets. Criteria on these constituent codes for self-duality and linear complementary duality of the decomposed codes are derived. The special class of the one-generator codes is given a polynomial representation and exactly enumerated. In particular, we present some illustrative examples of binary optimal linear codes with respect to the Griesmer bound derived from the $\mathbb {Z}_{2} \mathbb {Z}_{4}$ -additive quasi-cyclic codes. We study linear complementary pairs (LCP) of codes $(C, D)$ , where both codes belong to the same algebraic code family. We especially investigate constacyclic and quasi-cyclic LCP of codes. We obtain characterizations for LCP of constacyclic codes and LCP of quasi-cyclic codes. Our result for the constacyclic complementary pairs extends the characterization of linear complementary dual (LCD) cyclic codes given by Yang and Massey. We observe that when $C$ and $D$ are complementary and constacyclic, the codes $C$ and $D^\bot $ are equivalent to each other. Hence, the security parameter $\min (d(C),d(D^\bot))$ for LCP of codes is simply determined by one of the codes in this case. The same holds for a special class of quasi-cyclic codes, namely 2D cyclic codes, but not in general for all quasi-cyclic codes, since we have examples of LCP of double circulant codes not satisfying this conclusion for the security parameter. We present examples of binary LCP of quasi-cyclic codes and obtain several codes with better parameters than known binary LCD codes. Finally, a linear programming bound is obtained for binary LCP of codes and a table of values from this bound is presented in the case $d(C)=d(D^\bot)$.
