Boolean functions with high algebraic immunity are important cryptographic primitives in some stream ciphers. In this paper, two methodologies for constructing minimal binary codes from sets, Boolean functions and vectorial Boolean functions with high algebraic immunity, are proposed. More precisely, a general construction of new minimal codes using minimal codes contained in Reed-Muller codes and sets without nonzero low degree annihilators is presented. The other construction allows us to yield minimal codes from certain subcodes of Reed-Muller codes and vectorial Boolean functions with high algebraic immunity. Via these general constructions, infinite families of minimal binary linear codes of dimension $m$ and length less than or equal to $m(m+1)/2$ are obtained. Besides, a lower bound on the minimum distance of the proposed minimal linear codes is established. Conjectures and open problems are also presented. The results of this paper show that Boolean functions with high algebraic immunity have nice applications in several fields additionally to symmetric cryptography, such as coding theory and secret sharing schemes. In this paper, we apply two-to-one functions over F2n in two generic constructions of binary linear codes. We consider two-to-one functions in two forms: (1) generalized quadratic functions; and (2) (x2t + x)e with gcd (t, n) = gcd(e, 2n−1) = 1. Based on the study of the Walsh transforms of those functions or their variants, we present many classes of linear codes with few nonzero weights, including one weight, three weights, four weights, and five weights. The weight distributions of the proposed codes with one weight and with three weights are determined. In addition, we discuss the minimum distance of the dual of the constructed codes and show that some of them achieve the sphere packing bound. Linear codes generated by component functions of perfect nonlinear (PN for short) and almost perfect nonlinear (APN for short) functions and the first-order Reed-Muller codes have been an object of intensive study in coding theory. The objective of this paper is to investigate some binary shortened codes of two families of linear codes from APN functions and some $p$ -ary shortened codes associated with PN functions. The weight distributions of these shortened codes and the parameters of their duals are determined. The parameters of these binary codes and $p$ -ary codes are flexible. Many of the codes presented in this paper are optimal or almost optimal. The results of this paper show that the shortening technique is very promising for constructing good codes. The binary quadratic-residue codes and the punctured Reed-Muller codes ${\mathcal {R}}_{2}((m-1)/2, m))$ are two families of binary cyclic codes with parameters $[n, (n+1)/2, d \geq \sqrt {n}]$. These two families of binary cyclic codes are interesting partly due to the fact that their minimum distances have a square-root bound. The objective of this paper is to construct two families of binary cyclic codes of length $2^{m}-1$ and dimension near $2^{m-1}$ with good minimum distances. When $m \geq 3$ is odd, the codes become a family of duadic codes with parameters $[2^{m}-1, 2^{m-1}, d]$ , where $d \geq 2^{(m-1)/2}+1$ if $m \equiv 3 \pmod {4}$ and $d \geq 2^{(m-1)/2}+3$ if $m \equiv 1 \pmod {4}$. This paper investigates the problem of correcting multiple criss-cross insertions and deletions in arrays. More precisely, we study the unique recovery of $n \times n$ arrays affected by ${t}$ -criss-cross deletions defined as any combination of ${t_{\mathrm {r}}}$ row and ${t_{\mathrm {c}}}$ column deletions such that ${t_{\mathrm {r}}}+ {t_{\mathrm {c}}}= {t}$ for a given $t$. We show an equivalence between correcting ${t}$ -criss-cross deletions and ${t}$ -criss-cross insertions and show that a code correcting ${t}$ -criss-cross insertions/deletions has redundancy at least ${t} n + {t}\log n - \log ({t}!)$. Then, we present an existential construction of a ${t}$ -criss-cross insertion/deletion correcting code with redundancy bounded from above by ${t} n + \mathcal {O}({t}^{2} \log ^{2} n)$. The main ingredients of the presented code construction are systematic binary ${t}$ -deletion correcting codes and Gabidulin codes. The first ingredient helps locating the indices of the inserted/deleted rows and columns, thus transforming the insertion/deletion-correction problem into a row/column erasure-correction problem which is then solved using the second ingredient. In this paper, we mainly study quaternary linear codes and their binary subfield codes. First we obtain a general explicit relationship between quaternary linear codes and their binary subfield codes in terms of generator matrices and defining sets. Second, we construct quaternary linear codes via simplicial complexes and determine the weight distributions of these codes. Third, the weight distributions of the binary subfield codes of these quaternary codes are also computed by employing the general characterization. Furthermore, we present two infinite families of optimal linear codes with respect to the Griesmer Bound, and a class of binary almost optimal codes with respect to the Sphere Packing Bound. In this paper, we consider the list decoding property of codes under insertion and deletion errors (insdel for short). Firstly, we analyse the list decodability of random insdel codes. Our result provides a more complete picture on the list decodability of insdel codes when both insertion and deletion errors happen. Secondly, we construct a family of insdel codes along with their efficient encoding and decoding algorithms through concatenation method which provides a Zyablov-type bound for insdel metric codes. Kim et al. (2021) gave a method to embed a given binary $[n,k]$ code $\mathcal {C}\,\,(k = 3, 4)$ into a self-orthogonal code of the shortest length which has the same dimension $k$ and minimum distance $d' \ge d(\mathcal {C})$. We extend this result by proposing a new method related to a special matrix, called the self-orthogonality matrix $SO_{k}$ , obtained by shortening a Reed-Muller code ${\mathcal R}(2,k)$. Using this approach, we can extend binary linear codes to many optimal self-orthogonal codes of dimensions 5 and 6. Furthermore, we partially disprove the conjecture (Kim et al. (2021)) by showing that if $31 \le n \le 256$ and $n\equiv 14,22,29 \pmod {31}$ , then there exist optimal $[n], [5]$ codes which are self-orthogonal. Additive codes have become an increasingly important topic in algebraic coding theory due to their applications in quantum error-correction and quantum computing. Linear Complementary Dual (LCD) codes play an important role for improving the security of information against certain attacks. Motivated by these facts, we define additive complementary dual codes (ACD for short) over a finite abelian group in terms of an arbitrary duality on the ambient space and examine their properties. We show that the best minimum weight of ACD codes is always greater than or equal to the best minimum weight of LCD codes of the same size and that this inequality is often strict. We give some matrix constructions for quaternary ACD codes from a given quaternary ACD code and also from a given binary self-orthogonal code. Moreover, we construct an algorithm to determine if a given quaternary additive code is an ACD code with respect to all possible symmetric dualities. We also determine the largest minimum distance of quaternary ACD codes for lengths $n \leq 10$. The obtained codes are either optimal or near optimal according to Bierbrauer et al +. (2009). We study the codes of the title by the CRT method, that decomposes such codes into constituent codes, which are shorter codes over larger alphabets. Criteria on these constituent codes for self-duality and linear complementary duality of the decomposed codes are derived. The special class of the one-generator codes is given a polynomial representation and exactly enumerated. In particular, we present some illustrative examples of binary optimal linear codes with respect to the Griesmer bound derived from the $\mathbb {Z}_{2} \mathbb {Z}_{4}$ -additive quasi-cyclic codes. We obtain a characterization on self-orthogonality for a given binary linear code in terms of the number of column vectors in its generator matrix, which extends the result of Bouyukliev et al. (2006). As an application, we give an algorithmic method to embed a given binary k-dimensional linear code C (k = 3,4) into a self-orthogonal code of the shortest length which has the same dimension k and minimum distance d' ≥ d(C). For k > 4, we suggest a recursive method to embed a k -dimensional linear code to a self-orthogonal code. We also give new explicit formulas for the minimum distances of optimal self-orthogonal codes for any length n with dimension 4 and any length n ≢ 6, 13,14,21,22,28,29 (mod 31) with dimension 5. There has been a great deal of work establishing that random linear codes are as list-decodable as uniformly random codes, in the sense that a random linear binary code of rate $1 - {H}(\text {p}) - \epsilon $ is $({p},\text {O}(1/\epsilon))$ -list-decodable with high probability. In this work, we show that such codes are $({p}, {H}({p})/\epsilon + 2)$ -list-decodable with high probability, for any $ {p} \in (0, 1/2)$ and $\epsilon > 0$. In addition to improving the constant in known list-size bounds, our argument—which is quite simple—works simultaneously for all values of p, while previous works obtaining $ {L} = \text {O}(1/\epsilon)$ patched together different arguments to cover different parameter regimes. Our approach is to strengthen an existential argument of (Guruswami, Håstad, Sudan and Zuckerman, IEEE Trans. IT, 2002) to hold with high probability. To complement our upper bound for random linear codes, we also improve an argument of (Guruswami, Narayanan, IEEE Trans. IT, 2014) to obtain an essentially tight lower bound of $1/\epsilon $ on the list size of uniformly random codes; this implies that random linear codes are in fact more list-decodable than uniformly random codes, in the sense that the list sizes are strictly smaller. To demonstrate the applicability of these techniques, we use them to (a) obtain more information about the distribution of list sizes of random linear codes and (b) to prove a similar result for random linear rank-metric codes.
