Mobile and wireless communications are playing an irreplaceable role in our daily life. 5G is highly expected and can be considered as the convergence of mobile and wireless communications. Over the past few years a significant growth of research involving the utilization of RF/microwave technologies in healthcare applications has been taking place. This "Special Issue on Biomedical Applications of RF/Microwave Technologies" is proof. Encouraged by funding from government agencies and private sources, and recognizing the emerging opportunities offered by high-frequency electronics and novel sensing technologies for advancing healthcare, researchers from various engineering disciplines have directed their interests to applications involving biological science and clinical medicine. The increase in RF/microwave-related activities targeting medical or biological problems is noticeable within the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (IEEE MTT-S) community and beyond. These activities are broad in their scopes and involve multiple disciplines. They range from therapeutic, diagnostic, remote monitoring, and imaging applications of microwave technologies in clinical settings, as well as those involving sensing and communication over or through body tissues, where physiological or biochemical information are transmitted wirelessly, to the biological effects of these applications, in which the interaction of microwaves with tissues and living systems should be understood and manipulated. In addition, RF/microwave now serves as one of the key enabling technologies in innovative healthcare delivery and telemedicine. Three papers are on exposure systems for bioelectromagnetic research. Nine papers present radar-based systems for vital sign monitoring and object imaging. The remaining two radar papers focus on cancer detection by imaging. The Special Issue features papers from the US, UK, Japan, Korea, Australia, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Malaysia, Belgium, Germany, China, and France, indicating global efforts utilizing RF/microwave innovation for healthcare. The 2017 Asia-Pacific Microwave Conference (APMC 2017) was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on November 13, 2017–November 16, 2017. The conference was sponsored by the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques (MTT) Society, organized by the Malaysian IEEE AP/MTT/EMC Joint Chapter, and technically co-sponsored by the European Microwave Association and the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society. Out of ~537 papers submitted, ~360 papers were accepted for presentation in the conference and publication in the 2017 APMC proceedings. Tuis Mini-Special Issue of this TRANSACTIONS contains four expanded papers from the 2014 International Workshop on Integrated Nonlinear Microwave and Millimetre-wave Circuits (INMMiC), Leuven, Belgium, April 2-4, 2014. INMMiC is a forum for promoting, discussing, and spreading ideas in the field of nonlinear microwave and millimeter-wave circuits and systems. With over 100 attendees, the Technical Program of INMMiC 2014 included two outstanding keynote presentations by Dr. Dylan F. Williams and Prof. Giovanni Ghione; five invited talks given by world-leading distinguished speakers: Prof. Adalbert Beyer, Prof. Ernesto Limiti, Dr. Kate A. Remley, Dr. Earl McCune, and Prof. Wenhua Chen; and 39 high-quality regular papers (out of 50 submissions from 18 countries) presented in both oral (29) and poster (10) formats. Authors of the presented papers were invited to submit an expanded version of their papers for consideration in this Mini- Special Issue. All submissions went through the same review process as regular submissions to this TRANSACTIONS. A total of 11 papers were submitted, and after rigorous reviews, four contributions were accepted for publication. The article introduces the mini-special issue on measurements for large-signal characterization and modeling of nonlinear analog devices, circuits and systems published in the August 2006 issue.
