The plasma produced by a pulsed generator is an efficient tool for an airflow control. In this paper, a nanosecond pulsed generator constructed with a fast solid-state switch is designed for triggering synchronous discharges in plasma synthetic jet (PSJ) actuators connected in series. The generator delivers high-voltage pulses with a peak voltage varying from 0 to 20 kV, a rise time of 20 ns, a full-width at half-maximum of 200 ns, and a wide range of pulse-repetition rate varying from 0 to 5.5 kHz. It is proved that this generator is able to trigger synchronous discharges in three PSJ actuators in atmospheric air with a peak discharge current more than 90 A and a deposited energy per pulse of 39 mJ. A schlieren system is used to observe the airflow dynamics, which shows the high synchronization among the three PSJ actuators with a time triggering delay of about 20 ns. The synchronous operation of three PSJ actuators produces a plasma jet with a maximum velocity of 60 m/s and a precursor wave with a velocity of 350 m/s. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper describes a high-frequency pulsed-power generator for various industrial applications such as water treatment, food and medical apparatus for sterilization, or polluted gas treatment. The system is made of silicon-controlled rectifier as a main trigger switch, capacitors, two-stage magnetic pulse compression stages, and a linear transformer to generate a maximum of 120-kV, 5-kA pulse. The parameters obtained through the development are: output voltage: 120 kV (maximum), pulse repetition ration: 300 pulse per second, pulsewidth: 0.25~\mu \texts , and mean power: 30 kW. The designed pulsed-power generator is confirmed to be used effectively for many high-voltage pulsed-power applications related to environmental industry by simulation and experiments. This paper presents a power electronics converter to generate bipolar high-voltage pulses using low-voltage dc source. Converter is designed based on charging of different capacitors by a predetermined switching pattern and their discharging on the load for pulsed power applications. Low number of power electronics devices and bulky transformer elimination are main advantages of the proposed converter. According to new findings, bipolar high-voltage pulses may lead to higher efficiency in many applications, such as food sterilization industry. The proposed pulse generator generates bipolar controllable pulses with a modular circuit structure based on a capacitor-switched network. Experimental results are presented to verify the analysis. This paper describes the construction and experimental tests of a 12-kV high-voltage high-action generator based on reverse-switching dynistor (RSD) assembly. The main RSD unit consists of seven 76-mm-diameter dynistor pieces connected in series with a blocking voltage of about 2.4 kV, a magnetic switch based on a 1K101 amorphous alloy core, the trigger system based on a saturable transformer, and a 16-mm RSD assembly; the trigger current could reach 2 kA in amplitude with 1-\mu\s duration under 10 kV. The working voltage rate of this RSD unit is about 8–12 kV. Experiment on a 2.2-mF capacitor test bed under 12 kV working voltage, the switch current amplitude reached 150 kA with 300-\mu\s duration; the transferred charge is about 26.5 C and the action is 2.94 \MA^2\s, respectively. Particle-in-cell simulation method is used to integrally study the operation process of a low-density plasma opening switch (POS) with or without external applied magnetic field. The experiment has successfully simulated the space–time variety of electromagnetic field and kinetic behavior of electrons in the POS. The phenomena that happened in the operation process of POS, such as magnetic field penetration, magnetic insulation, irregular movement of nonuniformity particles, and aberrance of the field in electromagnetohydrodynamic operation process, were analyzed to investigate the open process of POS based on the characters of electromagnetic field. The analysis results proved that angle magnetic field which had the same direction with the drive current magnetic field can improve the performance of the POS.
